yeah. i thought it was great that after they spent all of last year doing this, we took trez from them and murdered their offseason plans (even if ibaka is better, they were supposed to be able to use their MLE AND keep harrell). they big mad.

Love the idea of sending out another second to dump McKinnie to free another roster spot.

We’ve all been saying how we want another wing player, but when you’re filling out the end of your bench, I think the Lakers would have to take into consideration how they already are paying a wing player in McKinnie. I see it more likely that they roll with McKinnie to provide depth in emergencies, and use the final spots on other needs.

Whereas IMO, the ideal scenario would be to dump McKinnie, then sign Dedmon, Robinson III, and Dudley.

By the way, not sure if it was discussed here but we didn’t end up stretching Cook’s contract as was previously reported since we were able to get enough breathing room under the hard cap without it. That means we technically could re-sign him, although I would hope that’s not the move we go with.

What’s interesting about the decision to not stretch Cook though is that I’ve heard it currently leaves us with enough room for 2 veteran’s minimum signings and then we’d have in the range of $1-2 million under the hard cap. That would not be enough to sign another veteran’s minimum contract to fill the 15th spot ... yet. It would be enough to add another veteran’s minimum in a few months once it becomes pro-rated and we’ve already played a chunk of the season. So this means we should still have the flexibility to be a player in the buyout market. Another example of savvy cap maneuvering from Rob.

Was some talk around Charlotte possibly arranging a sign and trade that would include Batum so they wouldn’t have to stretch him, so now that he’s officially been waived I wonder if he’s the domino that sets off these final signings.

I think he’d be a great pickup for us. Would take him over Robinson III. I have to assume Batum’s poor numbers in Charlotte last year was due to him not really playing at all because Charlotte wanted to invest the playing time in their younger players. On paper, he should still be able to be the budget 3&D player we’re looking for, and I’d hate to see another contender help revitalize his career.

I did not want Batum on our team, so this is perfectly fine as far as I am concerned.

He's washed anyway. Plus why are the Clippers going after another 3 instead of a point guard when they have PG13 and Leonard?

Don’t let this distract you from the fact that this was another Mitch signing.

he makes more sense for the clips than he does for us. i'm curious to see if he really dropped off a cliff or not. i heard somewhere that he's got his own load-management issues (i.e., cp3 knees). so maybe he'll fit right in.

Batum is not a wing. He’s a stretch 4 now. Assuming he’ll back up Morris for them.

I haven’t seen Batum play for what feels like at least 2 years, so I don’t know if that’s a good pickup or not. I was iffy on him joining us from the start for that reason, just no idea what he has left, he seemingly went from a super solid role player to kind of a ‘forgot he was in the league’ player. But like I said in our pursuit of of Marc Gasol, it always baffles me why any player would go to the Clippers if both of us and them are offering contracts and similar roles. You’d think players watching them collapse year after year after year while the first year we make the playoffs after missing 6 years in a row we win the championship would have a little lightbulb go off in their head. But hey, maybe we didn’t offer Batum a contract.
