They are doing both. Relax. Enjoy being the champion and possibly getting another one next year.

Agreed with completely. When you can win a title, you do it, you go all in now, that’s what we did this season and it paid off. I say get the best players possible this off-season with what money we have, or in a trade, we shouldn’t limit ourselves with 1 year deals if it means that a really good player would sign here for 2 years.

Also, this is just me, I don’t really understand the fit of Giannis with AD. I could be wrong, I probably am, but I don’t get it. They play the same position and they both need space to operate, same as LeBron, all 3 seems odd to me. I would think we’d be looking to go after a SG/PG for our next star. I guess Giannis will be the best free agent available by far in 2021, and you should go after best player and maybe worry about fit after that, but I still don’t know. Kawhi and George are both free agents that year too though, maybe losing again will knock some sense into one of them and they’ll move across the hall. :D

yeah, i'm all for flexibility, but refusing to make sensible improvements because it might infringe on max space available for a guy that will be pursued by literally everyone is silliness. i think we got a bit lucky that our fallback option (green) waited out the leonard signing, but we won't always have that working for us. and, in retrospect, maybe that wasn't so lucky.

I'm right there with you. I get you get the best player and figure it out, but I hate the possible limitations on roster with Giannis and AD. I don't know if there's enough floor spacing shooters in the league to make that appealing. Maybe if 2 of the other 3 starters are Curry and Klay, that's about it though.

I'll even go one step beyond that, for our team, I think the '21 free agency is incredibly overrated in terms of options for us.
Here's my quick run down (including guys with options)...
    -Bron: ours
    -Kawhi: f*** no
    -PG: f*** no x2
-Gobert: unless the league shifts again, that's too much for a big.
-Dipo: depends on how he responds to his injuries.
    - Holiday: wouldn't mind reuniting he and AD.
    Lowry: too old
DD: on a short deal, sure thing.
    -Hayward- injury red flags everywhere
    -CP3: min
    -Blake: injuries everywhere
    -Conley: cheap
    -Drummond: nope
-Adams: see Gobert. If the money is right, sure. But bigs with limited skill sets aren't worth big contracts currently.

So that's what? Holiday. Dipo. And maybe DD. That's hardly worth getting excited over or limiting contracts this year for.

got to be honest, don't want either anymore, neither of them are Lakers material. Too many question marks and too much of a distraction and questionable character with a potential to be a cancer to team chemistry. There are other guys who I think are a better fit.

I would jump at pairing Greek Freak with AD. It's not as strong as LeBron and AD, but no one this side of Shaq and Kobe is either. Right now, it puts extra miles on LeBron's longevity because he can coast for stretches. Yes, until Giannis is a more consistent shooter there is a bit of a spacing issue, but nothing unworkable. But think about the defensive side. In crunch time you have the two best defenders in the NBA up front along with LeBron. It would be tough scoring on them in the last 2 minutes.

This whole concept that he is going to somehow become a better outside shooter seems like a bit of a reach. It seems like that has not happened with other players nearly as much as people wish it had. I kind of think he is close to his peak but maybe I am wrong. I certainly think Lebron is a better outside shooter than he was at the beginning of his career. So maybe he will get better. For a guy who has been a major player in this league for 3 years in a row and considered the best for two of those years, not sure we are going to see that much more out of him.

good breakdown. all the more reason to be willing to use the full MLE if someone good falls in our laps and to use green to take on salary if a reasonable trade comes up. let's maximize this brief window where AD is prime and lebron is still an incredible force. the latter probably won't be true within 2 years, and the former is never guaranteed because he gets hurt a lot. if you have to reload for a couple years afterwards, it's fine, as the franchise's primary asset--winning(well, alongside location)--is intact and bolstered.

i feel like exactly one team--the 2010 miami heat--actually pulled off a good cap space hoard. i suppose you could argue us getting lebron could count, except for that we tried it, like, seven times before it worked. while we were striking out on guys like greg monroe, we could have been making several lou williams type signings wherein the player signed becomes an asset that can a) help you win (novel) or b) be aggregated for a bigger piece later.

i guess i always just yammer on about the virtues of operating over the cap--as long as you're not mozgoving--but i'm a believer. so few big name stars leave via FA; you just can't count on it as a strategy. as big as the lakers brand is, we've gotten shaq and 33 year old lebron in 20 years. a few other teams have nabbed a big one, but most max FA bids are misses or worse: you get the guy and he's not worth it (ask boston).

They list a slew of potential FA options. Most have been discussed here at length.

How are we going to play home games with this schedule?

Let's be real here, there are no sporting in events in California until mid 2021 or 2022 so no games at staples center next season. Even if you're in the least restrictive tear (yellow tier) there is no tier allowing for sports events with fans in the arena and Los Angeles is in the most restrictive purple tier, which we'll be in for a while since the r not is above 1 at the moment.

What is the NBA's contingency if you can only have a few areas where you can play home games, and what happens when the inevitable happens (multiple players testing positive for covid19, which we've already seen in football and baseball)?

I'm wondering if we're forced to do another bubble situation, will the players go for it, and can the league afford it, due to lost ticket sales and lower ratings?

What I hope the Lakers do.

Trade Danny Green & Kuzma for T Ross & Wes Iwundu:

    LeBron
    Caruso
    KCP
    AD
    Aron Baynes

Trey Burke or Dj Augustin / Rondo
Justin Holiday or Allonzo Trier / THT
T Ross / Mo Harkless or Galo / Wes Iwundu
    Markieff / Dudley
    Boogie

    If rosters are expanded again:
    Dwight
    Antetokounmpo

I would love to add Giannis to AD and Lebron. Do I think it'll happen? I'm not betting on it but I'll take it very happily if it does. Would be great to take him off the table for all of the other competing teams as well. Having arguably the best three players in the game is pretty strong, regardless of the question of fit. I think you can make it work.
