only thing I know about this draft is they have zero can't misses. Usually zero can't miss drafts produce late round gems.

Any Duncan Robinson's out there? Or Tyler Herro's we can snatch in the late 20's?

For our first round pick, if we keep it, my guy is Cassius Winston. His p&r play, his great 3 ball, IQ, and his D. Perfect for this team.

well, they're out there every year, tbh. and we've nabbed a bunch in recent years--just not a huge hit. though how many years has it been since a 2nd rounder became a perennial allstar type? is jokic the last one?

so "gems" can mean different things i guess. a smart team can get a rotation player where we're picking, though. statistically speaking, of course you're more likely to have someone who's out of the league in 4 years.

Did you really have to complicate what I said? When I say gems I mean guys that can play. Like Duncan Robinson. Not Ryan Kelly's.

Winston has a ridiculous shot profile. He can shoot.

I like to take a look at what he does off-ball, though. His shooting would help and possibly his playmaking ability.

However, PG's usually take a little bit longer to develop. We just don't have the time.

Add in THT who has better physical tools and coming into another year with a full training camp and 1 year of prior experience, I'd rather invest the resources into him.

If I'm looking for a creator with a bit more size and experience, it's probably Grant Riller; or if I'm looking for a wing, I'm looking at Desmond Bane, Tillman, or Josh Green.

Dayam ... he never missed once. :p

Sweet game. But we think he'll still be there why? How many PGs are better? (not familiar)

He's been projected in our range for a while. He doesn't have the highest ceiling, but from what I've seen, he's a true PG with some ability to create shots for himself and hit the 3. None of his measurables jump off the page, but he gets basketball and could put together a solid NBA career.

I moved this to it's own thread for the upcoming season rather than merging with the 2019-2020 thread

oh, and to reiterate: i'd like to move this pick for in the 2021 draft--any pick in the 1st round. simply because it will help us with trade flexibility (i think--need to research it a bit more). i just don't see us using anyone from this draft in the near term, and we're not in pick developing mode.

Agreed. The rookie scale salary will interfere with the 2021 plan.

I feel like if we keep this pick, we found someone we think is a diamond in the ruff, like our other late 1st round picks, or couldn't get a pick from another team for next year.

I'll trust the scouting and Rob to weigh the value of getting a certain pick, vs the cap situation.

they've certainly earned trust in this realm. also, i've learned not to waste time figuring out who they're going to take, as it's generally been a surprise at this stage in the draft.

i remember when took nance, and i was like...larry nance had a kid? named larry nance? and i didn't know? and he wasn't projected as a 1st rounder?

Might not take him, but I'm going to pound the drum for Winston until we trade the pick or take someone else. If he's there, it's the biggest no brainer on the board.

-4 years of college ball. His ceiling might be limited because of that, but on championship teams I like taking rookies ready to play that aren't projects. He's tied with being the oldest player projected in the first 35ish picks.

    - started 3 years for Michigan State, so he's ready to come in and play game 1.

    - if we still have Rondo, he and Kidd are good mentors to young PG. if he leaves, there's an even bigger role. Still think we need to address it in free agency, but he shores up depth and gives us a big time shooter. With JJ staying in NO because of SVG, that leaves Korver and Harris in free agency as options for shooters. One is limited and the other is a RFA.

A young sniper who's a threat from pulling up in transition or as a catch and shoot threat would be a big get for this squad.

    Another shooter.

    ESPN has him at 41
    NBA.com has him at 19

ESPN sucks at what they do seems to me most of the time certainly with regard to Clippers evaluations. I'd tend to go with NBA.com here. Dude is 22 year old senior 6'6" PG with mature NBA body already and can shoot the 3. Granted I don't know what his weaknesses are.

hmmm...those clips and the brief report i read on bane suggest he shouldn't be available where we pick. legit wing size with some playmaking ability, high iq and motor, can make open threes? feel like every team in the nba is looking for this.

He’s a senior though, so clearly something is wrong with him and he’s past his expiration date for a high draft rookie. Draft a player over 19 in the lottery? HA, might as well throw your pick in the trash. Who needs help from a player that’s more likely to be ready NOW when you can draft the magic that is... POTENTIAL!

Apparently we could be looking at Grant Riller
