The Democrats are why this is possible in the first place. They are the ones that made it a majority as opposed to 60. They literally changed the rules to get their person in with Obama under these same circumstances and now that the Republicans are in the same place and about to use the Democrats rules, the Democrats are threatening to change the rules again later. It'd be hilarious if it weren't for the fact that there are so many people that follow them in lock step.

    huh?

the senate vote in 2013 eliminated the 60 vote rule for all executive and judicial branch with the exception of the supreme court. the GOP controlled senate voted to remove that supreme court exception 2017 so that they could get gorsuch onto the court

Obama tried to convince Ginsburg to step down in July of 2013. Had he been able to convince her to do it, there's no doubt that Harry Reid would have eliminated the filibuster for SCOTUS judicial appointments in order to fill her seat.

nah, she'll be confirmed easily. nothing the dems can do in this situation

she doesn't have a spotty past like bart did. and aside from her association with some weird catholic group, she's basically your typical GOP POTUS nominee

It's astonishing how both sides are more interested in picking a candidate who serves their purpose(s) rather than a logical candidate who is simply interested in bettering the country. The Supreme Court is basically a weapon that the presidents use. As Savory said, both sides suck. It just so happens that the Republicans suck less.

History says that Republicans pick better SC justices than Democrats, see Roberts who is being accused of being blackmailed with his anti-conservative votes but I think just tries to balance things out, the Republicans go for constitutionalists while the Democrats go for activists like RBG.

Isn't it amazing how divided this country, specifically politicians, has become? Senate approved Scalia 98-0. Today, it's almost 50-50 in the most partisan way. It's no longer about qualifications or reputation... it's all about politics. Disgusting, really. I don't care if they lean left or right. As long as they uphold the constitutional rights of the people and provide the reasoning for it. There is nothing wrong with change as long as it is in the best interest of the people. Democrats hate it because a Republican president gets to choose a conservative judge while Republican will hate it when the Democrats choose a liberal judge. This dirty politics is disgusting.

Exactly. Supreme Court Justices are only there to uphold the constitution. That is their sole purpose. They are now being placed in order to overturn previous decisions. The Constitution is the Constitution. At this point I'm honestly starting to think this country would be better off if it split in two in an amicable way. We can't continue this way. I have no idea how you'd sort out the borders though.
