I don’t really buy NBA games anymore because they just don’t seem to put as much into them as they used to, seems to be about micro-transactions as much as anything else. That said, the standard edition of NBA 2K19 (digital download) is $2.99 right now on for PS4 and XBox One. For $3 you really can’t complain, I got the PS4 version today. The special edition one that’s usually $100 is on sale for like $33 too, but I don’t care about those extras.

Couple of my friends picked up the Oculus Quest Standalone VR set. Color me impressed, it's awesome.

It's fluid, fast, and very intuitive. I might pick one up myself.

The Outer Worlds is fantastic so far. It’s from Obsidian, the people who made KOTOR 2 and Fallout New Vegas. It’s not one big “open world” but multiple planets that you explore, but overall it is such a satisfying RPG. If you’ve played and enjoyed any of the Fallout series, you will love this game.

I'm probably going to buy a month of Game Pass for Xbox and play it that way. I loved New Vegas and KOTOR 2.

I'm playing Modern Warfare now. The campaign had some amazing moments, and some super frustrating moments, like the level where you played as a 10 year old girl... seriously. The multiplayer is fun with the addition of Ground War which is more like the big Battlefield maps. It's a bit fast twitch for my old thumbs, but I'm having fun with it.

Hideo Kojima is a genius. I understand the negative and controversial reactions to Death Stranding, but in my opinion it’s one of the greatest games of this generation.

Picked up a Nintendo Switch. Been playing Link's Awakening remake... a lot of fun, it's refined so well and everything is so smooth. Not sure what to buy next for the Switch.

I never played the original so I loved this one. Kinda wish Nintendo made a new top-down 2D Zelda game ... but then again they’re focusing on a Breath of the Wild sequel so I can’t complain.

In regards to your next Switch game, personally I’m waiting for Animal Crossing and haven’t really enjoyed much on Switch lately other than Fire Emblem and Link’s Awakening. What I can say is that I recommend you do NOT get the new Pokémon. The nostalgia is not enough to carry it. At its core, it’s the same game from 20 years ago but even more watered down. Just straight forward going from town A to town B doing gym battles. No sense of exploration or nuance in the plot. Really wish I had voted with my wallet and not bought it. GameFreak and Nintendo are WAY too complacent with this franchise.

I think Super Mario Odyssey is a must play. Smash Bros Ultimate, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe if you can get it for cheap. This list is pretty good overall too, points out what you’ll like if such and such is your taste

I've gone back to play 7 Days to Die. It's not really supported any longer, but I've put a lot of time into that game. It's a ton of fun when you crank up the difficulty and start off nude in a field surrounded by zombies.

Been playing Animal Crossing and Doom Eternal. Will start playing Final Fantasy 7 Remake tonight.

Animal Crossing is a relaxing distraction from the events in the world right now. A calm and peaceful way to spend a few hours every day. Doom Eternal is the opposite of that. Nonstop frantic action and I love it. One of the funnest campaigns I’ve played for a FPS in a long time. Very fast paced and a unique gameplay mechanic where you always need to be cautious of your health, armor, and ammo but have a few moves that can replenish each that you need to time strategically.

I signed up for MS Gamepass a few days ago due to the lockdown. Damn, there is some good stuff on there. Both of the Ori's are on there. Ori and the Blind Forest and Ori and the Will of the Wisps are two of the best games I've played in a while. Beautiful platformers. When I signed up there was a deal on Amazon where you got 6 months of Gamepass Ultimate (their top subscription at usually $15 a month) for 45 bucks. Not being able to leave the house for another couple months, I'll get my 45 bucks worth in a week. Heck, I already beat both Ori's that together cost 50 bucks retail (and together they're worth 50 bucks).

My platforming kick continues. I am now playing Hollow Knight which is also available on Gamepass. I honestly do not work for Microsoft, but this Gamepass thing, in a time like this where we are on lockdown, is the best deal in entertainment.

Picked up Dark Souls on a whim a few weeks ago. Had always heard good things about it, but the emphasis was always on how difficult it was so never would imagine it would appeal to me. I’ve now played through DS1 and DS2, probably about half way through DS3. I have Bloodborne and Sekiro (similar games from same creator) ready to go next too.

Highly recommend going into the series without much prior information. For me, the difficulty isn’t even the main appeal. The difficulty just adds tension which makes the exploring and role-playing aspects of the game so much stronger. Navigating through a new area, you’ve made it past several enemies but not entirely sure which divergent path to take next and you’re running low on health stating to panic. You keep pushing though and just when you’re about to die and worried you have to navigate through all that again, you turn a corner and realize that the new area you’re traversing has actually twisted and turned it’s way back to a prior area you had been to. Now you’re back to familiar ground and able to find your way to safety, and know you can make you way through that passage again. Until you go through it enough times that you’ve learned the enemy mechanics and rotations and now it’s also familiar territory that you’re comfortable in.

These games are so good, that I’ve decided to hold off on starting up The Last of Us 2 right now. I’ve been hyped for that game for so long and consider part 1 a masterpiece that epitomizes video games as an art form.

I played the heck out of DS1 and DS2. Loved both. Bought DS3 and never got around to starting it. How does it compare to the first two for you?

I’m enjoying it just as much so far although it did take a bit longer to get into. I think that’s a combination of DS3 being a PS4 game and so the extra tech allowed them to create bigger areas that are a bit more daunting to explore every nook and cranny as I like to, and also I just messed up and tried spreading out my characters skills too much this time around instead of specializing.

From what I’ve read, most fans of the series consider DS2 the weakest and so I think if you enjoyed the first two you’d definitely enjoy the third.

Mario Odyssey and Breath of the Wild are straight up masterpieces. There is no other way to describe them. It's games like those that make me wish Nintendo would become a gaming studio and stop with the consoles.....because those games are so good it forces me to buy an extra console. :D

I’ve finally saved up enough to buy a Switch (I haven’t owned a Nintendo console since the Wii), because these games are so good again it’s time. That and the rumored release of games like Mario 64, Sunshine, and Galaxy for the Switch for the 35th anniversary of Mario make it very appealing. All that said I haven’t been able to find an actual Switch in-store for months now, so I can’t even buy one now that I want one. Sure you can get one on Craigslist or eBay for $500 if you’re rich and money is like toilet paper to you, but I am not, and even if I did have that amount, I wouldn’t pay these price gougers buying up all the systems just to rip people off a penny more than they paid, f*** them. Hopefully I stumble across one someday browsing at Target or Nintendo can get a handle on this nonsense.

I finally got a Switch! I check at least twice daily, and yesterday for the first time since like March or so Best Buy was letting you add them to your cart, but then when I tried to check out it went back to “sold out”. Then I checked once this morning, nothing, and again this evening sometime after 5. It gave me an option to “check stores” or something like that and when I did a store about 7 miles away had ONE in stock. I immediately added it to my cart and checked out. Can’t pick it up until tomorrow though as they close at 6 these days and with the traffic at the time there was no way I could have gotten there. This will be my first console since the PS4 in probably like 2014, I don’t play as many games as I used to, but I love playing handheld these days more than anything else (I still play mostly on my PSP and mobile games on my phone), so this is the perfect console for me. Can’t wait to get back into some Mario games
