Fair point. Just not sure that "games played" is a factor in the decision making. I'm assuming it's going be based entirely on risk.

I agree that ultimately it will be risk. But when it clears up, Wimbledon will now be in the middle of someone else's tournament. The NBA only has to worry about running into the next season, which it also has control over. I think the NBA will ultimately finish with like 3-5 games to prime for the playoffs, then 5 game series. Then they will shorten next season down to 62 games or so.

The European football leagues have bigger problems. They will almost have to finish their seasons due to relegation/promotion scenarios. There is waaaaaaay too much money involved. Fortunately you don't have playoffs in those leagues, so you just have to play 9-10 games to finish out the season. Stuff in two a week and they can be completely done in a month.

Man I hope your're right. It would be devastating to lose an NBA playoffs. And you could just see and FEEL our team rounding into Championship shape.

Let's be honest , the season won't resume . The league is just talking about some scenarios to spark some discussions and to not demoralize NBA fans even more .

I think 100-200,000 people potentially dying in the US is probably the priority over sports right now - as much as we'd like to get things back to normal.

I don't think the league is trying to give us false hope. I think they're just singularly focused on making it work, and trying to maintain some optimism, and perhaps forgetting to take that big step back to look at the big picture. I think we've all been there before. In the meantime, let's not lose all hope ourselves. In two months (early June), things might look very different, and the prospect of getting the playoffs started mid-July might seem much more realistic. I'm not giving up on the 2020 title.

Yeah, China is planning a similar idea of isolating all their players and starting the league back up in a few centralized locations without any fans. They are many months ahead of us at this point in regards to the virus ... and they still have been forced to keep pushing back this idea.

So realistically, even the current ideas might not be feasible for the NBA. And the more I think about it, the less I like the idea anyways. If we lost due to the shortened rounds or single-game elimination ideas, we would be (rightfully) complaining. If we ended up winning, everyone else would put an asterisk on our title. And winning a title without any fans in the audience just doesn’t seem right.

As much as it sucks to have no payoff to the great season we’ve had so far, I’d rather just cancel the season and hope that the 2021 season can start up in a normal capacity.

Oh, I will take an asterisk banner any day. I'd rather that, than be the fan complaining about some OTHER team's banner that we didn't win. It's not like we will have won it by cheating. Do you think Spurs fans care that their '99 championship came at the end of a shortened season? Does anyone argue Duncan only REALLY has four rings?

It’s not just other fans putting an asterisk on it. It honesty wouldn’t feel right to me either. It’s so drastically different then the Spurs winning the title in a shortened regular season too. We’re talking about a disruption of multiple months between the regular season and playoffs, at which point the playoffs would involve single game eliminations, no fans, and no home court advantage. Winning something like that would not feel like winning the Larry O’Brien trophy.

If it happens, I’ll desperately cheer for us to win and be extremely happy if we did. But I don’t think it happens, and I understand why.

If we're really talking single elimination playoff rounds, then I wholeheartedly agree. That wouldn't feel right at all.

I'm with D-Fish Man though, I'll take a championship with an asterisk theoretically beside it any day. I'm still hoping we can do this but we shall see.

To be fair, I don’t think they were talking about putting the entire NBA in a bubble, it was the playoff teams, so half. And then quickly down to less after the first round, and so on, but yes, the logistics are still crazy. This will have to die down big time and take place months from now if they want it to work.

Yes and hopefully they can learn from their super soldier antibodies.
