    I'm surprised he didn't select any "banger" bigs

    top fives are all about favorites and not necessarily the best combination of players though.

    With that 5, I'd honestly replace Kobe with Steph Curry. I don't think he is a better player, but with MJ on that team, Steph is a better fit.

    You can exclude him if your de facto PG is LeBron James. But I do agree with Savory - if you are going for the fit, instead of your favorite 5, Steph would be better than Kobe, because he can split the ballhandling duties with Bron and stretch the floor with Bird. It's a deadly team, inside and out.

    You could actually make the argument that the team might be better if you replaced both Kobe and Jordan with Klay and Steph. Lebron and Bird are probably two of the top 5 greatest passers of all time. Kareem is your post threat and also one of the greatest passing centers of all time. Having Klay and Steph to kick it out to when Kareem gets doubled or Lebron drives and gets doubled would essentially be unstoppable.

    I agree. You are either going with the best individual players or you go for the fit. Surrounding Bron and Kareem with deadly shooters, some of which can defend well is a recipe for success.

    Actually Perkins didn’t say his starting lineup, he just said his all time top 5. So the argument for position doesn’t really fit here. That said, I don’t have an issue with his list. I’d put Magic in mine, but I don’t have an issue with Bird.

    Only problem with his list is I don't believe for a second that Perkins has watched more than 5 minutes of Larry Bird playing, and probably no more than 10 minutes of Kareem.

    The question is which link in that chain is the weakest because that’s who gets removed for Magic. Magic controlled games as much or more than anybody on that list. The solution is make it a Top 6 list and add Magic.

    I HATE the C Bags more than anyone but my son and I have been going through YouTube vids of the old guard such as Oakley, Mahorn, Mason, Olajuwon, Isiah, etc. and Bird was so amazing! Funky looking shot but basketball IQ off the chart.

    I hated Bird as a kid/teenager but as an adult I can really appreciate Bird’s greatness and man was he tough. He’s one of the great ones for sure. I still hate the C Bags.

    Bird was also - arguably - the most clutch player ever. Watch some of those Youtube videos... pretty amazing. Athleticism... who needs athleticism.

    Bird was amazing, but Magic was amazing-er.

    My top 5 is also a perfect team.

    C = Kareem
    PF = LeBron
    SF = Kobe
    SG = MJ
    PG = Magic

    No team beats that team.

    Yeah there's not much 3 point shooting. They still beat everyone.
