Doubtful that happens and that seems more of a state issue, IMO. I live in NYC so $1,000 will help but won't stretch as far as someone in Minnesota. NY will have to do something on top of that.

He could be right, but he is also very partisan in his viewpoints. I don't necessarily disagree with what he says on the matter, but when you put together his obvious agenda against Trump, I can't be sure he isn't exaggerating. I tend to pay closer attention to people who don't mention politics whatsoever as they don't have an axe to grind.

If it lasts until May, this will most certainly be one of the worst events in the past century. But let's just keep optimistic and hope the warmer weather and a vaccine treatment gets pushed ASAP. I know they are doing testing on hydroxychloroquine and that has had positive results. NYC is the emptiest I have ever seen it. I was super young during 9/11 but that lasted a few days and people were back to business. Cuomo just banned all businesses that are deemed non-essential from having employees show up personally. In other words, if you aren't WFH and work in a non-essential occupation, you are out of a job... Wow.

California has a similar lockdown in affect. It sucks for the people who are out of a job, but it really is for the best right now. Unfortunately Newsom said this is all based on a social contract and he won’t be enforcing this legally. My guess is he doesn’t want to do something that severe yet where without guidance from the federal government, but it needs to happen. I don’t trust the public, but more importantly the corporations, to take heed of the spirit of the lockdown. For example, I’ve heard that GameStop is telling their franchises to continue working and ignore any demands to shutdown because they believe they qualify as “essential business”. Ridiculous and irresponsible. The reality of it is that GameStop has been hurting financially and most likely it legitimately won’t be able to survive a few months out of business. But tough luck. That’s capitalism right? Your business is becoming obsolete, so adjust or die. Don’t risk the health of your employees or patrons during a pandemic.

I think a federal mandated lockdown that is actively enforced by police and/or military is inevitable. That is essentially what they have in Italy, and I think we should try to be ahead of the curve. The scary thing though is that I saw a video of a Chinese medical expert who was visiting Italy and shocked at how lax things were, saying that Italy isn’t doing nearly enough. Goes to show how strict the actions taken by China must have been in order to get them to the seemingly stable state they’re now in. I don’t think us Western countries are really capable of that though.

You know the “faith in humanity restored” thread? Stuff like this causes me to lose faith. And why did the store allow her to buy it all in the first place, just shady from every angle

Would not be upset at all if that lady got jumped and people stole everything from her. Get her license plate so people can track down her home.

None is as bad as the hand sanitizer bandit who purchased all the hand sanitizers and health supplies but claimed he was just "fixing" the supply-and-demand curve by adjusting the price based on the market. This moron even had the audacity to say he has a lot of hand sanitizers he can't sell since Amazon prevented him from price gouging but finished off by saying that he would be glad to sell the hand sanitizers... for a profit! The sad part is this guy is a military man. I think he was selling $1 hand sanitizers for $15 on Amazon. He made $20k in a month doing it. Another guy like him made $40k. There should have been a limit on all health-related items in general.

18 year old male in Lancaster just died. Got it from his dad who has a public job exposure and is not as sick, yet anyway. News doesn’t know yet if the son had any pre-existing condition or his state of health prior.

Just found the link and it’s saying no existing
    condition.

All those Florida kids that were partying and then taking it back home potentially.

Depending on what state this in, price gouging is illegal. God, what is it about situations like this that bring out the absolute worse in people?

What have you guys been hearing about the safety of getting takeout/delivery food? I’ve been paranoid of even that, but from what I understand the food should be safe assuming the cook is cautious and practicing good hygiene? And so the biggest exposure is just from interacting with the employees and possibly the containers that the food comes in. But that all is probably a smaller risk than having to make excessive trips to a potentially crowded grocery store.

And yeah, I know it’s probably privileged of me to even be this paranoid considering many people need to still go to work and rely on restaurants/other facilities. But personally I’m being very cautious and haven’t left the house in almost 2 weeks since I live with my elderly diabetic grandparents.

I believe coronavirus do not survive for long on the surfaces of food (unlike norovirus). And they certainly do not survive in acidic fluids in the stomach.

Though not impossible to be infected from food, I think you're safe. Especially if the food is cooked.

There’s tons of people who need that medication or part of the cocktail for Lupus and similar disorders now having big problems getting it. For another way to look at it. We have a friend that’s been taking it all her adult life and news reporting the shortages.
