It's pretty much hitting hard as we speak. NYC and California basically shut down with only essential businesses being allowed to operate. The subways are empty here in NYC.

Grocery stores in San Diego all have lines half a block or more long but people are keeping about a 6 foot distance between each other in the lines.

I finally got out and picked up some needed supplies. 3 different lines. Everyone was really cool and patient about it all. Except for one A-hole who saw me giving space to the person in front and decided I wasn't in line and forced his way in front, I told him to back off and give me space, he responded with smarmy disdain. I shook my head at him and made sure everyone around us understood his actions. Total d***. Then in the store, he seemed to go out of his way to continually encroach my space. F'ing millennial too, looked about 25. I wanted to smash his face in. But I didn't because I am too old and too mellow. Ha!

Yeah. I'm afraid we are all going to have to eat *shudders* canned food for a while.

bought a bunch of cans of corn and even peas, I NEVER buy canned peas. But I feel like a need to buy a few canned backup supplies if things get really bad.

I have canned tomatoes and canned green beans. I don't like green beans when they are fresh. I couldn't bring myself to buy canned cream corn. No. Just no.

Canned peas? Aren't they those things that just automatically appear in your pantry whenever you move to a new place?

According to supply chain experts, there isn't going to be a huge shortage. Manufacturing is ramping up. Small businesses will be largely affected since they aren't getting any customers and don't have the capital to stay in business. Large retailers for groceries and some pharmacies are hiring people. I'm sure there are some trucking jobs opening up if you are interested. It seems some of the shortage in retail locations is that they have to fix their logistics and hire more people.

    Same in NYC...

What I first read about the virus was that the individual organisms were larger and heavier than like flu viruses and sank much quicker to the ground so have felt fairly safe with the 6 foot prescribed distance and sanitizing the shopping cart handles of course and even cans and smooth surfaces lately of purchased goods plus constant washing of hands and trying to keep them away from my face. Man those sanitizers do a number on your hands’ skin if you overdo it.

But last night someone posted on NextDoor.com in my neighborhood that now they are saying the aerosol droplets can live for 3 hours floating in the air like dust. That’s a WHOLE bunch worse if true. Yikes!!! But amazingly I have 2 of the white (forget which initial) 95 3M respirator masks that are both only once or twice used from raking and putting into container dry leaves. I will be wearing one grocery shopping going forward. I keep a close cropped like 1/4” beard but will take it down to stubble for those trips. They say if you have a beard then they don’t seal well to keep you safe. I can make 2 of those go a year if necessary. Already hypothesized that especially as it gets warmer and then hot I can expose them to the sun for hours to kill anything on them possibly picked up from the air in a store. And the evening news confirmed that plan saying that’s what the health care folks and doctors are doing now while supplies are so stupidly short. They are are exposing the white masks to UV light to kill the virus and be able to reuse them out of necessity until more supplies come in.

It was also posted on that same NextDoor site that Amazon is hiring 100,000 part time and full time additional workers to handle the demand.

If you want to protect yourself from those aerosol droplets you need to wear goggles.

    Well ....

The times I have had to shop or take care of necessary business since this all got scary I wasn’t wearing anything and keeping the described social distancing as best as possible. Having the mask on should be magnitudes safer. Health care workers are often seen on television only equipped with this same mask. Are you saying you goggle up yourself plus a mask when you go shopping? I mean we’re all basically f***** if that’s the case. No?

Which begs a really unpleasant question if anyone has the answer and I have been searching myself with none found as of yet.

If this virus’s receptors(?) attach and do their damage inside the lungs what is the effect on eyes if that indeed was the point of entry? Has anyone read? Please post if you have.

Hope @Doc Brown is doing OK. Would be great to hear from occasionally but he’s probably up to his a** in alligators with his regular practice now impacted by covid-19.

Sounds like maybe if you get pink eye all of a sudden that’s an indication you have picked up the virus. Or.... a flu or cold. And as well the answer to the question of what is its effect on eyes.

If my email wasn’t first time ever and currently hacked and not available to me I might be checking Amazon for some cool looking swimming goggles to wear with the N95 mask for Halloween .... errrr .... the next trip to Ralph’s.

@LTLakerFan As you pointed out, no one really knows what is considered excessive in regards to protection from the virus, but it's better to be safe than sorry.
