That's an odd thing to say ... you were the first post after @TIME cut the ribbon.

ringer on best buyout possibilities. basically, they make fun of the lakers for considering jr smith and waiters (not sure i blame them--i don't like these ideas, despite the obvious ties), and they sort of wish in print that harkless either doesn't get bought out or doesn't go to the lakers (as laker-haters should).

i hadn't thought of evan turner, but the fact that he's been tossed around a bit is probably a concern. i had thought of shumpert--but again, everyone seems happy to let him walk of late (to my eye, he looked like a rotation player the last time i saw him). those two strike me because they're wings with size and at least some ballhandling ability. only turner can function as a quasi-pg, but still...

not sure anyone but harkless moves the needle, and i'm not sure why ny wouldn't try to convince him to audition for a longer-term deal there. and he'd lose bird rights on a waiver, right? if i were him, i'm not sure i'd risk it. even if he wins a title, is it going to net him more than his bird rights might in such a depleted market this summer?

i'm really not interested in waiters and smith, though.

    Great idea.

We should do this every season after the trade deadline.

Yeah I never thought Harkless was a realistic candidate for the reasons you listed. If somehow he ends up on this team, I think he is the best player out there in what's left in the market.

I've always been a fan of Lance, even since Indy days. I think the he would work for a number of reasons. Lance's vibe and approach from last season totally matches how this team has been getting along.

I forgot about Shumpert, who is interesting, but I think his role is a little to similar to KCP's? Though I think you can say the same thing about Lance.

Turner might be the only guy who can provide enough the size to play consistent minutes at 3. If Turner is not cooked, he has potential to be a sub for LeBron. The rotations would be a little more consistent and we'd be more prepared to take on larger lineups.

If I had to choose between Smith and Waiters, it would be Smith. He was fairly big contributor to his championship and has played with LeBron. Smith probably wants to redeem himself to say the least. Smith is probably looking at Dwight and craving the same redemption. A motivated JR Smith is not the worst thing in the world.

Waiters was shipped out of Cleveland within 2 or 3 months of LeBron getting there. Plus he's a bone head. He probably believes he's better than AD and LeBron.

Yeah, the more I think about it, the more I’d rather bring lance back.

Waiters - I am open minded; same with Smith.

I'd kick the tires on Tyler Johnson.

Also, Jeff Green is out there; never a locker room problem, can still play a bit, etc. Surprised we haven't looked more seriously at him.

No to IT, just too bad defensively. Rather have Cook play

If I can take anyone left (that seems plausible or at least from that article), it would be Reggie Jackson and then Harkless.

Reggie is a clear upgrade over Rondo. Someone who can create their own points for themselves and others and attack besides AD and Bron. He is a more talented scorer than Collison but a worse shooter and defender.

Harkless is a good wing defender, not great and an okay shooter at best really. He is a good defensive body though off the bench and he can play in most series due to his versatility.

If we got both and say cut Daniels and Dudley/Boogie/Cook?

Come playoff time, this would be my 10 guys who play:

    Avery, Green, Bron, AD, Mcgee
    Reggie, KCP, Harkless, Kuzma, Dwight

Caruso should be the next man up, also depends on matchups a bit.
I may rather have more Caruso than AB, but that is doubtful.

When rotations get even smaller, then less of Javale or Dwight depending on who is playing worse. So really 9 guys

Harkless would help , there is no point of bringing somebody else ( Waiters , JR , Lance ect) just for the sake of it .

A Harkless addition AND a Rondo injury would be ( or at least close) enough to win it all .

It's all about Bron and A.D level of performance in the playoffs for us ( as long as the supporting cast isn't completely HORRIBLE)

I'm over Waiters, he sounds like too much of a head case. I might be ok with Smith, but he'd have to prove it with the work out, etc. I'd rather him than Waiters just because I know what I'm getting there. I don't want to go after Lance again.

Mainly the only one that really moves the needle for me is Harkless. But I'm confused about why anyone thinks he might be available. He said he's glad to be on the Knicks. The Knicks said they would buy him out if HE wants. I'm not seeing why any pundits think he's actually going to get bought out. Seems like a long shot. I'm totally fine with waiting to see though.

well, and again, i think he's got an expiring contract with bird rights that can keep him over the MLE despite the market being sort of tight. i don't think i'd ask for a buyout if i were him. he's got one more payday in him before he needs to go full-on ring chasing (if he even cares to do it).

    Want Harkless.

Do not want JR or Neon Dion.

But, hey, what do I know. I did NOT want Dwight and he has proven me wrong and won me over.

it really is slim pickings outside of harkless, who is a long shot at this point... the current short list (IT, lance, JR, dion) somewhat worries me for various reasons, so i am currently considering no moves at all... although @TIME brings up a good point in that a lot of us were cringing at the thought of bringing back dwight, and lo and behold, here we are... when it boils down to it, i dont see any of these guys moving the needle much or filling a glaring hole (again, outside harkless)... and if we dont end up winning it all, which is (gasp) somewhat likely, how can you blame that shortcoming on not making a move for any of these characters?
