I will hazard a couple of guesses from what I have read. It did not have terrain warning system (why in the hell not, it had all the other bells and whistles ..... well except a black box and voice recorder) but tower control and their radar lost the craft and warned the pilot he was too low for them to track, and maybe even he might have seen terrain coming up on them since flying so low. But it's reported he climbed upward rapidly which would have put him back in the soup of the fog and clouds where visibility was non existent and I've read that it's possible for a pilot even as experienced as he was to lose orientation and in thinking possibly in those brief moments he maybe thought he was leveling off, while actually putting the copter into a fatal dive. The other thing I wondered was if the rapid pull upward somehow caused it to stall and drop. Ground observer said he heard the engine struggling like it was failing right before the crash even though he could not see through the fog. But .... there's 2 engines on these as well. All I got. Still sick and ruined over this.

Good read. Their first interaction with one another. Mentoring Kyrie. Working with Gigi. And an app they were working on

    spatial disorientation is my guess

you quickly lose your sense of direction flying in the clouds like that. once he made that left turn in thick fog he likely became disoriented and panicked. also, based off that video it looks like the pilot switched to IFR shortly before the crash. switching from VFR to IFR in the air is itself is a recipe for disaster. assuming the pilot was already suffering from spatial disorientation, him switching from VFR to IFR made it 100x worse. the pilot could've declared an emergency but either chose not to or tried to and it wasn't picked up due to flying too low.

here's a video which explains spatial disorientation and how pilots can quickly lose their sense of direction

Vanessa has changed her Instagram photo to a crop of this image. Maybe we'll see a Kobe and Gianna together statue in front of Staples. It would seem fitting and appropriate to me for what the world of Basketball and the World lost. We could see that statue and dream our wildest rational dreams about the things they would have accomplished in their futures to come .... and how could you overstate what was possible?

    https://www.yahoo.com/news/vanessa-bryant-honors-kobe-gianna-instagram-222619620.html

Adding to my statement above about there was no way you could overstate was what was possible in Kobe's future and in Gianna's future .... this long interview with Phil Handy is pure gold.

    https://theundefeated.com/features/phil-handy-working-out-with-kobe-and-gianna/

The essence of who Kobe was and how serious he was about his work and he only cared about helping people who were as serious as he was about the game.

But then Phil mentions the App "Mamba Mentality" they were working on right now in real time. We can only imagine how huge and how helpful to how many millions of people in the future that "alone" was going to be.

And then .... he talks about Kobe's instructions on how he wanted Gianna and her other teammates coached when he brought Phil in to work with them, because they were "serious", and they were "hoopers". Handy said they were that for sure. I ache for the basketball career of Gigi Bryant that we will never see. She would have been amazing. And then what did her own post career ambitions hold in store for her?

"Old" but good. Kid really was special. No doubt in my mind, that she would be a WNBA star.

I love this one. It’s so true, I think people forget how young Kobe was during the 3-peat because he came in at 17 and we had watched him for 3 years before that. He was 21-23 during the 3-peat, he wasn’t even in his prime yet and he had the composure, the drive, the skill to just tear teams apart. Shaq always dominated the Finals, but the series along the way in the West, in ‘01 and ‘02 in particular, Kobe owned teams. He made greats of the game, long time veterans, and players that had been successful for a long time already look average in comparison. I’ve never seen anything like that from someone that age, especially someone who started a total of 7 games in their first 2 years and made an incredible leap shortly after that, and I can only think of a few examples of players in general making an impact like that at that age or younger, but Kobe was the one I actually saw. To be that good in that spotlight in LA of all places next to the absolute superstar and monster that Shaq was, that’s special.

    So much tragedy here

I’m uhh... at a loss for words. I still can’t believe it. I’m numb. It’s really too much to be honest. I still think it’s a dream and that I’ll wake up and we find out they never even left home. It’s one of the saddest moments ever in my life. To lose kids, parents, spouses, etc all at once and to have so many families in such great pain now. I just can’t. Maybe I’ll be able to discuss all the details and whatnot someday, but it just feels like that day won’t be here for a long time. I mean we have all dealt with death in our personal lives, some tragic and unexpected, others known but still... Rest In Peace to all the victims of the crash. Kobe and GiGi. You will be missed and we love you both so much!

Not seeing Gigi Bryant continue to play the game of basketball is a tragedy all until itself.

    Message from Vanessa:

“My girls and I want to thank the millions of people who’ve shown support and love during this horrific time,” the 37-year-old wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of herself, Kobe and their daughters. “Thank you for all the prayers. We definitely need them. We are completely devastated by the sudden loss of my adoring husband, Kobe — the amazing father of our children; and my beautiful, sweet Gianna — a loving, thoughtful, and wonderful daughter, and amazing sister to Natalia, Bianka, and Capri.”

She continued, “We are also devastated for the families who lost their loved ones on Sunday, and we share in their grief intimately. There aren’t enough words to describe our pain right now. I take comfort in knowing that Kobe and Gigi both knew that they were so deeply loved. We were so incredibly blessed to have them in our lives. I wish they were here with us forever. They were our beautiful blessings taken from us too soon.”

Vanessa went on to open up about the love she holds for her late husband and her daughter, as well as her desire for privacy at this time.

“I’m not sure what our lives hold beyond today, and it’s impossible to imagine life without them. But we wake up each day, trying to keep pushing because Kobe, and our baby girl, Gigi, are shining on us to light the way,” the mother of four wrote. “Our love for them is endless — and that’s to say, immeasurable. I just wish I could hug them, kiss them and bless them. Have them here with us, forever. Thank you for sharing your joy, your grief and your support with us. We ask that you grant us the respect and privacy we will need to navigate this new reality.”

Vanessa concluded with a call to fans to donate to a newly created fund that will provide resources to the families of the victims.

“To honor our Team Mamba family, the Mamba Sports Foundation has set up the MambaOnThree Fund to help support the other families affected by this tragedy. To donate, please go to MambaOnThree.org,” she shared via social media. “To further Kobe and Gianna’s legacy in youth sports, please visit MambaSportsFoundation.org. Thank you so much for lifting us up in your prayers, and for loving Kobe, Gigi, Natalia, Bianka, Capri and me. #Mamba #Mambacita #GirlsDad #DaddysGirls #Family.”

Apologies if a repost, but I can’t get enough of these stories right now, I’ve never heard any of them before and I love that a tiny silver lining when someone passes is you get personal stories and maybe learn something about someone you never knew before that makes you smile or makes you marvel

Looks like DJ Quik wants to go see Ari Shaffir and chin check him for celebrating Kobe's death.
