RIP @ZenMaster whose rage I actually kinda miss in Game Time. Sometimes. Somewhat understandable with the hours he had to get up to watch the games prior to work way the hell away from this part of the world.

two straight games where no one shows up to play to start the 4th and they blow another big lead. AD and lebron will always be reliable but they NEED to make a move to improve that weak bench

and rondo needs to go. please sign collison and dump his useless a**

Letting scrub teams to come back. Bron and AD should be chilling on the bench in the 4th Q instead of playing and securing the win. Time to get serious, focus and be smart. Less minutes played in the RS, more energy for the PO and better chance of staying healthy. Let's f***ing go!

It took a historic defensive effort from our bigs to beat a bad Detroit team at home. Kuz and Rondo have been hurting us out there the last few games. If Kuz can't get his head right and Rondo isn't taken to the local landfill or tied to a rocket headed for the sun we're screwed come playoff time.

The offense down the strech has been TERRIBLE all season long .

It's basically Lebron or AD taking contested (and mostly bricking) shots and others standing around .

The defense has been good in the clutch but it won't be enough against the great teams

Have some major issues controlling pace of the game on both ends of the floor. Our bigs have so many huge defensive stops, but in turn we negate them with bad rotations or gambling for more big stops and end up leaving wide open players, lanes etc.. how many easy layups did everyone give up losing their man, the ball not switching..

Lacking a back to the rim post game, when we need high percentage shots with 'and one' situations we have guys taking long jumpers and low percentages shots which ends up easy points for the scrubs.

I love our winning record, the teams effort/heart but this type of play loses early in the playoffs. Time to slow the pace, maintain leads and start catching defenders in the air for FT situations...

well coached teams do not fear us in spite of our superior talent. We are predictable, and very stoppable in crunch time.

We haven't figured out how to put it all together yet, and if Rondo is still getting major minutes, I'm starting to wonder if we will.

    I'm not surprised.

AD isn't that great of a shot creater and hasn't shown the ability to create his own shots...if he gets the ball in crunch time, its either LeBron setting him up or its almost certainly a fall away 20 footer, a terrible shot for a guy like him.

LeBron lacks confidence to go to the rim because he is an automatic brick layer at the line late in games, so he "prefers" to shoot off balance jump shots.

That leaves Kuzma as the only guy with the ability to create his own shot in crunch time. Thats why he is usually the end of quarter "closer".

I think the makeup of this team isn't really good for crunch time and doesn't provide any confidence. I was almost certain we will lose to the Clippers if it gets tight.

If we end up losing to the Clippers in the post-season, it will 100% be because Kawhi is a killer in crunch time and the Lakers have nobody to answer. The Clippers also have Lou Williams and PG who are both clutch and "safe" at the free throw line.

We are very shaky at the line and don't have guys who create their own shots...lack of ability.

Great post KB24. It is definitely a concern to me too. I agree with you about the team's clutch gene although I like what I've been seeing from AD down the stretch almost all season. He hit that big three (yes assisted from Lebron though) to pretty much seal the game with Detroit. His defense has also helped seal quite a few games this year with blocks or stops.

But yes, Kuzma is the single guy we have on the team who can actually create his own shot besides AD and Lebron. That's a lot of load to carry. Often times we've seen the offense become very stagnant with the ball in Lebron's hands controlling all of the action. We need either a better point guard than Rondo or another killer down the stretch like Iggy or even better, both.

AD also beat dallas down the stretch in the first one, iirc. i think we need to give him more opportunities to work in those settings.

the real issue with AD is that he's not a fantastic passer, though, and teams will try to make him move the ball to a non-obvious spot. there have to be sets where you can get him a high post touch with lebron and danny green each positioned in places that make providing help difficult and AD's pass easy. i haven't seen much of that yet.

    I agree lakerjones.

BTW we have won many close games because our D has been clutch.

AD has made plenty of clutch shots...so he doesn't have a problem between the ears. Nontheless he isn't a great shot creator and as abeer said, his lack of passing makes him a dead end on offense under pressure and the results haven't always been great.

I was just talking about offense. I think we lack the necessary "tools" to close games offensively more often than not. Defensively, we have made plenty of clutch plays and thats why we have won most of our games that were close in the 4th.

we have two superior talents and then a big dropoff. that's easier to plan for. and i'm not sure well-coached teams are the ones that have given us trouble. teams that got to play us without lebron or AD have given us trouble. teams with kawhi leonard going gonzo have given us trouble.

but spoelstra, popovich, and carlisle are probably the three best in the business, and they haven't schemed their way to victory against us.

relatedly, i think winning games with defense is a great formula. it's why we've won so many close games despite the concerns with late-game offense.

quite frankly, come playoff time, lebron needs to be clutch and our shooters (green and kuz in particular) need to knock down the big ones. but i mean, this can be said for anyone who doesn't employ kawhi leonard right now. he's the only player in the league this year that i believe can create and convert a shot against the best defenses all by himself. giannis can't. harden can't. and yes, lebron can't.

so, hopefully, we'll be ahead when he starts walking people to midrange shots and rising up over them, kobe style.

and i mean, we did try hard to get him to do this in our uniform...

Very likely, but hasn’t proven it yet on the biggest stage right? I mean, I’d like to get him credit, but it does seem a bit premature.

yeah, not yet. But he’s a beast and should get there.

Ironically, it’s kawhi’s midrange that makes him so dangerous. It’s a lost art, and that may make it more important than ever—defenses don’t see it much; can’t plan for it. Dirk won the 2011 title because people couldn’t scheme against it. It’s inefficient...for 46 minutes.
