Most teams can find a guy who will score the points needed to win a game. The difference between championship teams and first-round fodder is the players like Draymond. It's why losing Lonzo hurt us so bad last season. His box score isn't pretty, but he does so many little things that change the course of the game. If look at every NBA team, everyone has one or two players that can score points and grab rebounds. But do they have players that can do the other things. Draymond, Lonzo, Robert Horry, Dennis Rodman, Shane Battier...those are the players that make or break teams.

To me the all-star game is half popularity contest, half showcase of exciting to watch players. It’s an exhibition. I know people list all-star game appearances on players’ resumes, but it’s probably the least important/impressive thing on said list. It CAN show how a player had such sustained excellence, but it can also be misleading. Is Booker an all-star, not to me, he’s never influenced winning in the slightest. Towns has at least to some degree when he was new there, so I have less issue with him being an all-star. But I do typically think of the game as being for players that are the best player on their team, or guys that are big scorers, it’s not something I think of guys like Green and Wallace for because their games aren’t built for it, they’re boring in an exhibition like that where very little to no actual competition is going on. It’s not really a surprise to me when a guy like Booker makes the team I guess I would say, because his style seems to be what it’s about, but yes, I stand by my point, take Green off GS and he doesn’t get pulled along into the AS game by his amazing teammates like Wallace, who awesome as he was at rebounding and defense, was kinda pointless in the actual AS game.

feel like you went both ways, there, weezy. by your definition, booker is definitely an allstar (leads team, can be fun to watch, scores big). but then you throw winning back in as a factor.

i think the problem is, as you said, people view it as a badge of honor--the players, coaches, fans, etc. and that's how winning gets tied in. i agree that draymond and ben wallace don't make for a fun game, but tbh, the allstar game hasn't been worth watching in many years. it's just another, slightly different version of the all-nba team, but with nearly twice as many spots!

Not a lot of doom at there tonight but here’s our first snack of the season.

In a good way for us.

What did you say down there? Speak up.

Anybody with centers will be a problem for you guys.

    Finders keepers.

I was happy too but that was because it counted for 3 points.

If he continues to play like he did tonight, he can wear a whole fruit salad on his head
    and I don’t care.

    Funny how that happens.

    Yep

I think his name is Chaz

    It is looking bad.

    Said no one.

    Yes, he is...for the Lakers.

How about before he finishes walking down the tunnel.

He knows that’s the last shot he will take in the NBA.

    At least you’re consistent.

    Don’t mention nuts around Draymond.

Metta hid some Hennessey is the locker room.

Draymond snapped a long time ago.

Avoid the rush, call the undertaker now. It doesn’t get better for you.

    We appreciate your gift.

    Welcome to your new reality.

We don’t call him the Bald Eagle for nothing.

    They did, they just missed.

Glad we could be part of it.

Early male pattern baldness. Just helps not to weigh him down.

I don’t have a lot of time but here’s some tidbits. It was from a game thread that is a mix of Lakers and Jazz fans. So there’s some Laker quotes too.

Tell us something we don’t know.

Surprised someone from Utah can count that high.

He’s trying to beat out KCP.

Maybe that’s why he wears sunglasses. He got too close to the sun.

Add a steak and he can have surf and turf.

I think he has Rubio syndrome.

    Yep and a lot too.

I wish Skip would wear a mask. That way I wouldn’t see his ugly mug.

I have a better idea. Set the GPS parameters on the anklet so it only lets him play in Memphis, Atlanta or something. That
way he can’t come back to our team.

    Defense...what’s that?

    There’s always next year.

Yes you’ll need that space to add 1 plus 1, so it doesn’t tax your brain power.

Hey we have a “paper or plastic” guy on our team. He’s playing pretty well.

Not sure he’d want this title on his resume but ok.

Don’t worry you can beat up on some other teams not named the Lakers.

It’s Utah, there’s a lot of open space.
