GTFOH!! Good lord they changed up the casting of who is going to play Dr. Jerry Buss in this made for TV production on the 80s Showtime Lakers.

Worst POS casting job ever. How often are we kind of awe struck at the ends of good movies when we see the photos of the real life characters while the credits roll and see how well they nailed the likenesses. This is awful.

Kinda think the bigger issue here is who is directing and producing (and therefore casting) which is Adam McKay (Anchorman, Talladega Nights, StepBrothers).

Not sure what this means since the guy has only done comedy. Actually I take that back, I do know what it means, it's going to have comedy. At least a comedy-drama or the like. I'm actually a bit curious, I'm sure there was plenty of humor surrounding Jerry in his shenanigans. Nailing the likeness of someone (in looks) is one of the least important things to me. Getting their persona and character is important. he'll get a toupee anyways.

I wouldn't agree with likenesses being among the least important factors in casting. As mentioned above it is awesome when they put in the time to nail it and the performances of course no one embarrasses themselves. Likely the opposite.

Reilly is a super underrated actor. He’s mostly known for silly comedy roles the last decade or so, but he had a career before that, and he has sprinkled in dramatic roles a lot still, he can be excellent. As much as I like Shannon as well, I’m not sure I’ve ever seen him portray the kind of wild/free spirit that was Dr Buss in anything before, he mostly plays dark and brooding, and when he does go humorous it’s more creepy or laced with an element of danger lurking there. Reilly might play the part better than Shannon could have.

I’ll let everyone else check it out first, and likely won’t waste the time to watch it,

I love Michael Shannon, he was perfect. But I was looking forward to this anyway, and I like Reilly too from a lot of movies but he has a certain innocence about him that is out of place portraying Doc Buss. Shannon and Jerry look like card sharks lol

I'm guessing then by likeness that you mean the actor's inherent physical qualities that resemble the person being portrayed

Yeah with makeup abilities and so on I stand by what I said completely. More important to nail the person than to get someone that naturally looks look them especially when the person imitated wasn't exactly a physical specimen like Muhammad Ali or something. So many great parts have been people portrayed by actors who (untouched) look nothing like them. Reilly's dramatic efforts have been awesome. Gangs of New York, The Sister's Brothers, Scorsese has used him a few times and DePalma has as well as other great directors and he's worked Broadway too. "Worst POS casting job ever." would be a bit overboard imo but I guess we'll see.

It was an over reaction no doubt and only talking about facial appearance with that photo. Compared to Jerry's best Lakers days.

    :JerryBuss2:

Was not factoring in any regard for his thespian capabilities.

i love reilly. and as someone else mentioned, he made his bones as a dramatic actor prior to all the comedies. he can do both, for sure.

    He’s a thespian!

    Is Dwight?

    Do I have a lisp?

Jk, that just caught me off guard. It does seem like an odd choice, but hopefully it doesn’t suck.

Soo...we’re terrible because we took Howard over Noah?

I would have chosen Noah, too, but it’s not like this is the thing that should decide the fate of the season.

Mixed in with all the positives on display in 1st pre-season game was the stark reminder that Father Time is undefeated. No not Dwight .... more troubling even and completely unexpected than that.

Considering we punked the Warriors in their 1st game in their shiny new crib ..... in her prime @Cookie would have had Doom up and published 90 minutes after the game.

Saw that Webber has us in the middle of the pack... Cool being underdogs.

Hope we can make loud noise, do damage everywhere and he go see his psychiatrist again just like in 2002. :)

We don’t need to be the #1 seed. #4 will do. What we need is no major injuries this time
