While I think Jeannie makes too many decisions based on her emotional reactions, I do think she is getting up to steam. She has ultimately responded pretty well to a lot of overwhelming circumstances. Anyone who thinks they could do better is probably self deluded.
Yes, of course. You guys are always talking about the good old days. But, we may be entering a new Golden Era of Lakers Basketball right now tbh.
Nepotism yes..including Magic's hire. But that doesn't mean Rob was unqualified. Kobe wouldn't have recommended him just because they're buds. The hard part of the job is making deals for FAs and trades and Rob is used to closing players and GMs while having insight into the agent's viewpoint as well. Some knowledge of the cap comes with that but the rest of the stuff, that's what your capologist is for and guys like Tim Harris, to fill in the blanks. Meanwhile Rob's been at this for almost 2 1/2 years now, by all accounts on a madman's schedule (certainly a schedule and work ethic that intimidated Magic) if he was inexperienced, he's not anymore. Now we see if he can maintain a LBJ team for real. No more injury excuses (hopefully) or a boss with a historic passing game who wanted all passers around LBJ in a 1-year experimental roster. 2 years to make this roster work or make trades to that effect. In 2 years LBJ has an out on his 3rd year and all the contracts expire including Kuz's. So we are at that point still rolling with LBJ if he's good to go but he has to winding down by then. Can't really see down the road yet. But, if Boogie really regains form and Rob can figure out a way to keep him like using the full MLE + Bi-annuals, that would be a feat worthy of praise. Jeanie, she needs to keep her nose out of basketball operations and it would be good if she had a real advisor when the time comes to name GMs and POB's. Hopefully Rob works out and we don't need to see or hear from Jeanie in this regard for a very long time.
I disagree. There are several people on this board who would have done a better job than Jeannie. Not sure I'm one of them, but there are a few I know would do a great job.
Fact that Rambii has all this power, is reason enough to hate on Jeanie. I have no problems with hireing friends but why make them "god like"?
Since this deals with nepotism... So recently successful organizations are doing what the Buss's were criticized of doing, but I'm sure the media will give them a pass. Let's see if Jesse/Joey/Janie get to climb the ladder now without any media backlash.
3 titles in 5 years earns you some leeway in that regard, I’d think, so yeah why wouldn’t they get a pass. You can hire people in the family if they’re qualified or when you win. Dr. Buss did it plenty, but they ended up some of the best to ever do it.
Kurt Rambis with his track record of failures doesnt deserve to be in any position of power for anyone or any team
true, though the warriors having mike dunleavy jr as assistant gm is a strong parallel in terms of how he got the job in the first place.
do we know how long hes been with gsw n what capacity? im sure they didn't just give him that role out of nowhere
