The trade included garbage + Marc Gasol + 2 first round picks. Of course Wallace squandered the picks but there were some pretty decent players in that 2008 draft, if had known what he was doing. Point is, trades really cant be judged in the moment, it takes a few years to see who "won" the trade. In this case, it was not nearly as one sided as the initial reactions would indicate.

hindsight was a win/win. memphis got ten years of playoff basketball and the lakers got two titles. neither would have had either without the trade.

further, people forget how depressed the market was then and how much more valuable expiring contracts were ten years ago, before the league was awash with revenue and thus cap space. the bulls refused to give up deng for pau. the mavs refused to give up josh howard.

anyway, the thabeet pick was still terrible, and i'm not sure how he's even getting workouts five years past his completely sad prime.

booker hasn't been very good for the past 3 years. prior to that, he was starting to make a name as a dirty work pf who could occasionally spot up in the corner.

definitely can't give minutes at center, imo.

So, about 15 mpg, 7/4 and good FT shooting? Not horrible.

I’m not sure this makes Speights a favorite. I read it as they’ve worked out Dwight and Noah and now have Speights working out. This is based on Woj tweet.

Hoooooooooo boy. I am a Laker fan down to my marrow so I will root for this to succeed going forward, but man . . . this feels like a really bad omen.

I literally feel a little nauseated, having flashbacks of 2012, slight PTSD.
