I'll take both versions of kobe over traveling and flop master Harden any day and three times on Sunday. Yes I'm bias. It never gets old either.
if it had been acceptable to dribble down the shot clock every possession and launch 15 step-back threes a game 10 years ago, kobe would have averaged 50.
I still believe we’d end up with silver if Kobe didn’t take over. Such a back and forth game until Kobe had a hand in 15 or so points in a row down the stretch.
“ You don’t need to know how to pass the ball. You need to be able to catch the ball so you can shoot it.”
i do think ballhandling is super helpful (look at how improving on that changed both curry and kawhi), but he's right. moving off the ball is a largely lost art. some of it does require sort of innate hoop iq/pattern recognition, but some of it can be learned pretty easily. i think kuz's success has been due in large part to a great understanding of how to play off the ball (set guys up, anticipate the openings, etc.). wish the nash experiment or paul trade had worked out--would have been cool to see kobe not have to use the dribble so much to create shots.
