If Vogel wins a chip? It's likely the calculus changes. The point is we're a top cotender for 2 years while we also make ourselves a landing spot in 2021 if Giannis is interested. This is very different than chasing one year deals and sucking while we try lure FAs to play with 20 year olds.

whats a caculus change? like I said, thats a bad look if thats the end goal of hiring a coach. What org has ever fired a coach right after winning a chip? and Jkidd is a SNAKE in every sense of the word, his departure from Nets to Bucks says alot and fact that bucks took the next step in their transcendence post Kidd firing says even more bout his coaching abilities.

AD to LA had alot more smoke to it. I just don't see it and I definitely don't see it with the non-closers in our FO (see coaching search and max guy search this summer). Change that and we might improve our chances a bit.

The only way I can really see it happening is ironically the Kawhi route. Won & Done in Milwaukee is the only scenario dude leaves imo.

Calculus change = not likely to fire Vogel to hire Kidd because Vogel becomes part of the appeal of the team. Kidd would likely remain involved as lead assistant. I dont care for Kidd, but if he's useful then so be it.

Actually had my eye on Kostas in last years draft, he slipped pretty far though. Very raw, but he has a solid foundation to work off of.

I'm also not confident in us landing Giannis but I like that we're at least making moves to let him know that we're serious about him even if he's not serious about us.

We have 2 years to recruit him and 2 years to develop his brother...if we get his brother a bag by developing him (or we keep him ourselves)...you don't think that'll resonate with Giannis? Why do you think the Bucks gave his other brother a GUARANTEED deal even tho Thanasis is 27 and hasn't really shown that he's a decent basketball player? Because Giannis is superrrr close with all his bros...you can see it on IG, they all post each other constantly and they all work out together too. If Kostas tells him how it is to be around Lakers org...you don't think his mind could change? Also...Bucks lost their most promising young player besides Giannis in Brogdon this summer....you think that'll have an impact? You think if BUcks don't make the finals this coming year, Giannis won't have a change of heart? Bucks are basically locked into this core and anything short of a Finals trip the next 2 years is a massive failure by the Bucks and it won't be because of Giannis imo...it'll be because his supporting cast just wasn't good enough. I still dont think he comes here BUT I think we'll make him think about it and it's worth it for us to make these no risk high reward moves like signing his brother to a 2-way deal to get into the giannis circle of trust in the same way we did with LeBron through KCP/Klutch

Fab, I just see Giannis as the type where if a team-up happens, it's going to be the other star coming to him and his team. Coming to LA would have Giannis linking up with AD on AD's team.

    But let's say it happens.

That means AD is on some type of 30% max deal (1+1 deal, 5 year deal, etc) which is ballpark 37.5m. All our other deals are expired making Kuz and THT as restricted free agents with capholds of about 10m aggregated.

Bron would have to opt out of his 41m player option to make room for Giannis's 30% max contract. It's crazy how in a 18yr career, that would be the first time ever that Bron gets paid 40m+ for the season, but I'm sure he would do that to have a 3star team (see Heatles) and we know AD is down for it (see waiving trade kicker for Kawhi). So let's say Bron opts out and agrees to a new 3yr/80m deal (which sees him double his 40m forfeiture) where his first year is a 25m cap hit....

So only AD, Giannis, Bron, Kuz, THT (along with Deng's dead cap and incomplete roster charges) has us already capped out. We would then have the projected 6m room exception to keep Giannis's brother.

So alot has to line up for us to really get Giannis into the fold.

I still like the Kostas pickup tho...it gives us a little more depth for a frontline that needs it so we don't overwork our stars in the regular season. I hope that final roster spot also goes to a PF/C unless an absolute no brainier magically opens up on the buyout market (ie Cp3).

never even seen him play nor know what he's good at if he's good at anything, at very least there must be some appeal to his "measurements" as far as lenf goes

Definitely, which why I like Kostas as a project. He’s probably not as coordinated as Giannis, he plays more of a big man role, but he’s still only 21 and has plenty of room to grow.

I’m not a fan of his, I’m a fan of having another tall/long player on reserve. But based on what I know about him, going off G-league footage, listening to Trevor Lane talk about him, he’s not especially impressive, I’d still rather have Jonathan Williams. But, he’s 21, there’s still potential and a 2-way does no harm. Apparently he averaged 5 ppg in summer league though, so I doubt he’s going to play much, if at all, in actual NBA games.

Williams is definitely better. You're banking on an unusual trajectory with kostas. But his bro had one for sure.

[IMG] .... maybe that's the ticket. A sort of Pau / Marc Gasol comparison of Bro skills. Relative to each other skill wise. Not literally.

SEriously though, we pick him up, but wouldn't even give Li'Angelo Ball a look?

What kind of an organization are we running here?
