I think we can sign him Ellington and Davis for less than Hill would make. I would just let Hill walk if we can not trade him on draft night.
Black is under contract next season just like Clarkson. He's got a non guaranteed deal worth roughly 0.8 million dollars.
Which is awesome. No reason for him not to be back next year. Sacre is also on a team-friendly deal with a team option next year for $981,358. At the price we might as well hang on to both and then possibly look to deal Sacre depending on how the draft and free agency pans out.
Difference between the two is Black is a backup with upside and Sacre is a 3rd stringer who's reached his ceiling. I'm not in favor of dumping Sacre just to dump him. However, if we can find someone better or someone with more potential, which I'm 100% sure we can do, then I say show him the door.
Definitely, like if it takes declining Sacre's option in order to free up enough cash to bring back Ed and another guy we want in free agency then so be it. However, decent backup bigs do still have some value, and I'd like to think that to the right team Sacre might be worth a mid-2nd round pick.
I know, just saying that those 3 are IMO worth more then Hill and will come cheaper, unless someone makes a Jodie Meeks offer to them .
This guy looks like a flat out steal. Not consistent, but I don't want him to start for us anyway. His energy and athleticism is exactly what you want and need from you back-up Center. We genuinely might have ended up with the best Center in the draft. Embiid may never play and he's in the conversation with Nurkic. If he's not back next season it better be because he was traded for some tremendous value.
Love his attitude and glad he's apart of our plans going forward. With his contributions, ability, and dirt cheap contract you'd be a damn fool not to make him part of your plans moving forward.
Black and Davis are the hard working, hustle guys everyone wants on their team. Black is going to be a cheap player moving forward, would be a huge mistake if we don't keep him.
Stoked to hear that about Black. To me it was a no-brainer with his hustle and drive. Hill used to be like that but Black is hungry right now. He's a great keeper for that price tag. I also hope we are able to keep Davis at a decent pay rate like we got for Swaggy P. If we were somehow able to pick up one of the top bigs in the draft our front court would be outstanding going forward with youth and huge upside. Then we could go after a good SF in FA and a decent starting PG. I'd be very happy with that.
He has to return next season. He's a perfect player for this team: young, strong, works hard... and he's cheap too.
When you get right down to it Tarik is a physical, strong, athletic, semi-beastly kind of a player potentially. With huge hands and lots of promise he may polish up nicely in multiple areas of his game. Clearly he works hard. No brainer.
A jumper is nice, but it'll take away his opportunities on the offensive boards a bit and pull him away from the paint which is his strength. I know he's only actually 6'8" or something so I get that he's not a perfect fit as a Center. Still... it makes me nervous. I like the player he is now. I'm not sure I need something different from him.
Just imagine what D'antoni would tell him to work on over the summer in exit interview if god forbid he was still here. Rhymes with "retch" and "trees"
I ran a few of Black's statistics, and while I was impressed by eye test, the numbers were even better than I thought. Here are his Points per possessions on his most common offensive possessions: Pick and Roll, Roll Man- 1.15 (81.4 percentile) Putbacks- 1.12 (58.0 percentile) Transition- 1.60 (99.3 percentile) Cut- 1.13 (40.6 percentile) Post Up- .85 (53.6 percentile) While the percentile looks low on cuts, it is still elitely efficient overall, and while his post ups aren't greatly efficient, he is nonetheless pretty average there. But he is elite as a roll man and in transition, by efficiency. And all of those things he does with the exception of posting up are absolutely great by efficiency numbers. On defense, they don't keep a lot of stats for things like cuts and putbacks, but his defensive PPP on post ups is .68 (87.6 percentile), and on the roll man is .83 (62.3 percentile). While not an anchor, he defends his man well down low and is really pretty good on pick and roll coverage as well.
Nice work! I really want him to develop a mid-range jumper. Not because I want him turning into Jordan Hill or anything, but because it'll free up a real rim protector at Center off the bench for us if Black can space the floor respectably. I absolutely love his pick and roll efficiency and his ability to run the floor at his size changes the way we can play offense as well. He's a great backup big man and the Lakers will certainly keep him around next season.
I don't know if this was brought up at all, but Tarik Black ended up 12th in All-Rookie voting and almost made the 2nd Team. He had a really great season by the numbers and I think he'll make a great bench player next season!
That's extremely impressive. Thanks Houston. I expect a big season out of him because his game and front court versatility will compliment both Okafor and Randle. He'll definitely get easier looks cause the D will be focused on them.
