At the time, I took the James' comments as dismissive given the state of the franchise at the time. Really? He was taking on the challenge of resuscitating a franchise with young players and in a tougher conference.

The prospects appear to look good right now...

I believe this has always been his MO. They were always going to force Davis in with LA and then get another max guy. I mean Magic has been hinting at that from day one and I don't believe that LeBron would have come here for any other setup. I don't think LeBron came here just for his entertainment business. He came here to cement his legacy as one basketball's greatest players and if/when we get Kawhi, that's going to happen.

Some Anthony Davis trade doom from Steve Kerr

    :dwightcrying:

Maybe him and Popovich will form that trade committee to stop us from getting superstar big men.

    https://www.yahoo.com/sports/kerr-stars-evading-signed-deals-231020728.html

For all of the excitement and buzz over an unprecedented free agency period, Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr is one very concerned NBA citizen.

Speaking on "The Warrior Podcast" posted Wednesday on the bay area affiliate of NBCSports.com, the three-time NBA head coach called out transactions sparked by star players -- like Anthony Davis maneuvering his way from the New Orleans Pelicans to the Los Angeles Lakers -- as "bad for the league" and "a real problem."

"I'm talking more about the Anthony Davis situation," Kerr said. "Where a guy is perfectly healthy and has a couple years left on his deal and says, 'I want to leave.' That's a real problem that the league has to address and that the players have to be careful with.

"When you sign on that dotted line, you owe your effort and your play to that team, to that city, to the fans. And then it's completely your right to leave as a free agent. But if you sign the contract, then you should be bound to that contract."

Davis had initially demanded a trade from the Pelicans with over a full season remaining on his existing contract, and although New Orleans did not immediately cave to his in-season request, this offseason Davis got his wish when he was dealt to L.A

Kerr has an issue with Davis' approach, while still under contract, as opposed to stars who have played out their contracts first before switching teams.

"What LeBron did, played out his contract. What Kevin did, both when he arrived at Golden State and when he left. You sign contracts, you play them out and you move on. That's how it should be done," Kerr said.

"But it's a little disturbing that there has been some action that happens before contracts are up, where teams are sort of held hostage and the league is sort of held hostage. I'm not a big fan of that. That's damaging for everybody.

Earlier in July, commissioner Adam Silver publicly commented in his annual summer league news conference in Las Vegas that the manner in which many free-agent deals seem to be happening well ahead of rules prohibiting contact between agents, players and teams.

"My job is to enforce a fair set of rules for all our teams and a set of rules that are clear and make sense for everyone," said Silver. "I think right now we're not quite there."

Aw....KD I miss you so give me some tissues for my issues..

If sour grapes we ever more evident I haven't seen it.

Kerr was gifted the most stacked roster ever. He should stfu and not draw attention to himself on this subject at all. He had 3 of the best players in the league, amazing role players Iggy/Livingston/Harrison Barnes/Bogut/etc and so many people say what a good coach he is and yet he couldn't coach that team to victory over LBJ/Kyrie and their band of misfits in '16 until next season when they got the ultimate piggy-backer in KD to tip the scales of talent overwhelmingly.

If KD had forced his way to GSW in a trade rather than doing it in FA do you think Kerr would be saying this? No he's taking the "I'm so high and mighty" stance because of his good fortune of landing on a team that drafted better than anyone in history and then had KD piggy back with them. This is the equivalent of a spoiled rich kid that inherited his money and then condemns the poor. He lost his golden goose in KD yet still has 3 of the best players + added DLo but the Lakers and Clippers are looking like they're at the top of the west and even the Nuggets, Rockets, Utah, Portland, Spurs who knows what Dallas/NOP can do... the whole west is scary and his comfortability level went down a whole bunch. And how has Kerr handled the fall out of a roster led by multiple stars? KD bails and I bet Green does too. Iggy, Livingston and McGee all said cya. Didn't learn much from Pop apparently comparing the the Duncan/Ginobli/Parker dynasty's lasting power.

    BOO HOO

Well Steve Kerr did learn how to have hurt feelings from the worst. This oldie but goodie will never get old.

Greg Popovich's feelings are hurt after Lakers acquire Pau Gasol

    :dwightcrying::dwightcrying::dwightcrying:

    https://www.si.com/nba/2008/02/08/popovich-grizzlies

Grizzlies GM Chris Wallace went on the offensive against his critics on Thursday, calling the unattributed criticism of the Pau Gasol trade from other general managers "pillow talk" and daring any league executives to go on the record against the deal.

Before Friday night's game against the Knicks, Spurs president and head coach Gregg Popovich did just that.

"What they did in Memphis is beyond comprehension," said Popovich. "There should be a trade committee that can scratch all trades that make no sense. I just wish I had been on a trade committee that oversees NBA trades. I'd like to elect myself to that committee. I would have voted no to the L.A. trade."

When told that Wallace had challenged executives to criticize the deal publicly, Popovich replied, "Well, there you go. I'm on the record."

To acquire Gasol, the Lakers parted with forward-center Kwame Brown, rookie point guard Javaris Crittenton, the rights to Pau's younger brother, Marc Gasol, and first-round picks in 2008 and 2010. The deal gives the Grizzlies salary-cap relief -- Brown is making $9.1 million in the last year of his deal while Pau Gasol is owed $49 million over the next three years -- but little in the way of established NBA talent.

Grizzlies owner Michael Heisley said the move was purely a basketball decision and not a way to cut costs to make the team more attractive to prospective buyers. The Grizzlies were 13-33 when they traded Gasol, the franchise leader in 12 statistical categories.

"The strategy sure as hell isn't to try to wreck the team," Heisley told the Memphis Commercial Appeal last week. "Quite honestly, if it was in my power to turn the Grizzlies into the San Antonio Spurs tomorrow, I'd do that. I don't think anyone appreciates how painful it is to be the owner of a team that's losing and have people criticize you."

Well, Steve, then teams should be prohibited from trading players under a contract, shouldn't they? d******.

It bottles my mind that this trade (Crit wasn't a "lifer" at the time) was considered one sided. ESPECIALLY with hindsight of the kind of career for them that Marc Gasol had.

Nah... i speak from experience. We've been hit with injuries year after year after year. This season will be no different. I just hope after Boogie and now Kuz, we'll get only minor ones. Preferably to Rondo or Dudley...
