Now that I more or less understand the deal, with 5 (!) teams involved... Rob might actually be very, very good. I mean, that took some serious work. I think I wrote last week how I find it hard to believe that he does not know how the calendar works, or that he suddenly does not understand NBA cap. He might be inexperienced, but he is also supposed to be a cap expert, correct?
This violates the "touch rule"...all teams would have to exchange some form of asset with at least 2 other teams in the deal. LA touches Pels, Wiz works Pels touches LA, ATL works ATL touches BK, Peks works BK touches ATL only which doesn't work Wiz touches LA only which doesn't work But that being said, if Rob ends up with AD and Kawhi in one off-season, he wins Exec of the year, and serious consideration for Exec of decade by ridding MozDeng and then bringing in Bron, AD, Kawhi in successive summers.
Everything I said about you "little finger" Rob (Lowe) Pelinka, "I AM SORRY, YOU ARE THE KING NOW"..... Just bring us Kawhi and I'll bend the knee
BK would now have to send out at least 1.1m in cash, a draft pick that will convey or player salary into cap space to any other team other than ATL and then the 5teamer works. Otherwise it just remains a 4teamer where ATL needs to touch us in some way (pause) with BK not really needing to get involved. They would just need to do the deal with ATL first followed by the 4teamer in the order of conference calls to league offices.
This is huge, absolutely huge. This is the sort of strides you can only hope to see someone like Rob make and he’s making them.
In essense he had a commitment out of state with the boys and girls club and had to cancel last minute for lakers business.
Just imagine what Rob might accomplish if other GMs were actually willing to pick up the phone when he calls. Amazing that he pulled off a 5 team deal without ever talking to other teams.
I’m sure this was posted already, but I just realized it contains an actual compliment to the Lakers from an ESPN employee that wasn’t a former Laker. That’s rare and might not happen again
Oh wow...must have been really hard for him to tweet this one out...but Bobby Marks DOES know his stuff.
Bobby does know his stuff, but this is a blatant backtrack for the crazy narratives he and Woj were putting out there. First of all you don't need JJ in the deal. Signing Kawhi to 32m FIRST clears an incomplete roster charge cause Kawhi now occupies it. That newly 900k in cap space can now be used to take in a portion of AD's 27.1m to now be reflective of 26.2m in salary that needs to be matched. Zo/BI/Hart/Moe/Bonga aggregated can bring back as much as 26.9m. So just that package without the 900k in new cap space isn't enough for AD's 27.1m. But after Kawhi signs and opens up that 900k, that package is more than enough to bring back AD while we keep JJ. Also I want to remind everybody again that salary matching AD by adding Moe/Bonga/JJ doesn't mean we have max cap space. We only get max space if we use the cap space first. If we trade for AD first and then use our cap space in free agency, then shedding Moe/Bonga/JJ still puts us at about 29m in space. Bron 37.4 AD 27.1 Kuz 2 THT player rights 900k Deng dead cap 5 8 incomplete roster charges 7.2 = 79.6m in team salary (29.4m in cap space) Now if we do not renounce Caruso/Williams, that cap space dips even more. Even with this amended AD trade...it has to happen AFTER we have our max guy commit and sign to us.
