I think all this Russell talk is a back-up plan. Just because we’re interested in him doesn’t mean no Kawhi. It probably does mean Kawhi’s not a sure thing. There hasn’t been some backchannel communication where we’re 100% confident in getting him, but that’s fine. We just need to get a meeting with him. Put him in a room with Bron, AD, and Kobe, and I like our chances.

In regards to Russel, note how Shams says we would plan on using part of the 24-28 million of expected cap room. I didn’t read that as us offering him 24 - 28 million, but instead that we possibly will have that much in cap room and would plan on offering Russell just a portion of that.

I have absolutely warmed up to the idea of Russell as the best back-up plan (if no Kawhi), assuming we can get him around the 20 million mark. It’s tough, but I would probably take that over Kyrie, Jimmy, or Kemba at 32 million.

We’d get our third “star” whose still super young (yeah, he just barely made the All-Star team and doesn’t have the star status of some of the other max free agents yet, but he’s still technically an all star). And then still have about 10-12 million on a high quality rotation player and the room exception.

Not disagreeing with you HJ (and Travis by proxy ;)) but if we're going off preference, I would go the Butler/Klay route instead with our max bag. I mean at the very least, we can always trade him to the Rockets for 7 future 1sts later.

I'd take them both for the right price.

If I'm the Lakers, I'm targeting more defensive minded players.

I'm liking this type of talk a lot more than effing Melo, JR and bringing back RONDO.

If these guys are willing to come for cheap...why not?

Is there a player (not even a free agent) Lakers are not interested in?
Every damn news has the word "Lakers" in it :D

Don't actually mind Carmelo if he were to join the Lakers. If he comes back hungry and wanting to prove his doubters wrong, then that would be great for us.

Ed Davis was GOOD for Brooklyn this last year. He has also said straight up that money is his number one concern this year.
