My problem is your expectations of perfection to your known best plan out of Rob and not acknowledging in this situation the very real Lakers tax on us with the league knowing what's coming .... and on national ESPN no less than the great Magic Johnson calling the person tasked with dealing with NO and all the other GMs a "Backstabber".
Dude "obviously" doesn't know how the cap works haha. We always had 32m fam! We just needed to salary match for AD without sacrificing any of it. Completing the deal in August when #4 (Hunter) could have been aggregated as 7.1m in outgoing salary could have spared Moe, Bonga, JJ and 2022 2nd rounder from needing to be in the deal now...and AD would have gotten his entire 4.1m trade kicker. Still, it feels good to have a max slot and AD in July instead of waiting a whole month for the media to keep throwing dirt at us.
I love Magic, but reading this stuff it feels like to me Magic never grasped this part of the job. He really never should have been PBO. He should have just been the figurehead all along.
And you know this how? Was Magic part of the coaching search and these new AD talks? Yet we knew all the details including all the names that were involved. Meanwhile we assumed ATL was involved with the 8/10 for the 4, but that separate deal (that also involved Griff/Pels FO) was never discussed as loudly as the AD deal. #BeansBeenSpilled
Except the teams getting Hunter and the other top picks want to see them in Summer League. Who wants to bring in a top lottery player and then not get to see him there? To help the Lakers go Dynasty again?
Griff wanted to deal the 4th... The AD trade didn't need a 3rd team. Garland (a Klutch guy) is shutting it down for summer league. Wiggins played summer league for the Cavs taking out an insurance policy, knowing that he was likely on his way out a month later. Oh and there's Griff that made that deal. Don't act like AD didn't hand us leverage in these talks. Rob got the deal done...kudos. But I've been critical in him not finesse'n our cap sheet and that's been proven over and over again. How could you even argue that at this point? Btw, we have AD and a shot at Kawhi...so you ready to start smoking some of that good good with us? [Insert LT Bong gif here]
It just seems to me you're doing too much assuming as to what Griffin or anyone else was willing to do for the Lakers in their forced trade for AD and path back to a dynasty. And the over and over again we don't know how much was just ordered by Magic to get done now. All I'm saying. Do you think, here we go again, Rob just forgot about your and yes the best preferred plan?
