I’m laying some of the blame on Jeanie for rolling with an inexperienced crew during the most important off season in years. Top down leadership...
Damn, this is worse than I thought. I didn’t know Moe, Bonga, and JJ needed to be traded to one team for this to work. The 3 max guys plan is in some serious jeopardy here, this is a legit screw up by Rob and Jeanie, should have hired a real GM when we had the chance, or at least add an experienced guy to work with Rob. This 14 min video is well worth watching.
Its def a big screw up and shows the lakers leadership is riddled with amateurs. But they may have accidentally made the right move. Filling out the roster and adding depth is the way to go imo
Like I said from the start, Lakers gave up too much. Everyone said this would guarantee a 3rd star and make it worth trading everything away. OOOPS ! Still glad we got AD though
The cap is so complicated that the reports about our chance at a max seem to be flip flopping every day. I don’t think a lot of these journalists actually have much insight into the details of what has been negotiated. I’m going to reserve judgement on Rob until July 6th.
We all agree that it is somehow Magic's fault tho, right? Here's our final offer at the deadline: And so far the rumored deal has it where it's a necessity that Zo/BI/Hart/Moe/Bonga/JJ are most likely out. Deadline deal had 2 picks, but we were taking on Solomon compromising our summer's cap space (although a stretch would have made it about 4m in dead money) Meanwhile, now we spare Kuz but at the expense of Moe, Bonga, JJ an additional pick, an additional pick swap and we still aren't a lock to have max cap space. We had the leverage and still bungled up our max slot. How? I want to remind yall that if we got it to August all we really needed was just Zo, BI, signed 4th to make the salaries work. That means we get a max slot, AD gets traded for and can still get 50% of his trade kicker, and we could have spares Kuz, Hart, Moe, Bonga and JJ. I'm not saying Griff agrees to just Zo/Bi/4...I'm saying it works have been a legal trade if it was just those 3 assets and it would have been enough to still offer AD 2m of his 4m trade kicker. I hope to gawd this is media spin, cause it just can't be true. But if all this costs us Kawhi...Vash is gonna be upset. Live look at Rob attempting to finesse our cap...
I get Ramona Shelburne being good at her job. But for a long time I thought she was a Lakers insider and in good with the family. To me it feels like shes trying to jump the shark and be like every other ESPN reporter now and bash the Lakers to make herself look good. Theres reporting and theres reporting with bias. I even here her on radio and she is nothing but condescending to rob to magic to everyone. If I'm in with the Lakers I freeze her out.
As always Helljumper knows what's up! Glad to see things dont change. Patience patience patience! These same people two days ago said there was no way we could do it. Let the game play and see what happens.
Are you defending Magic (whose trade would have given up more of our actual valuable assets, and for sure eliminated a max slot with Solomon Hill) yet suggesting Pelinka has botched this because he preserved Kuzma, gave up possibly meaningless swaps, and may have to throw in a few other players who will never be rotation players in the NBA to give us a chance at a max slot? Everything being discussed now is significantly better than Magic’s godfather offer.
Ramona trashed Magic, but when she did, she did it to shield Jeanie and Rob (by proxy). Aren't Jeanie and Ramona tight, like #LeatherPants tight? I agree that there is media spin when it comes to the AD trade kicker. I agree that this deal was agreed to in principle, so moving parts are still being conducted behind the scenes and the media just might be mongering misinformation. But when you been hording cap space like a religion the past 2 summers, you shouldn't give life to any narrative that suggests you bungled up your max slot. If reports came out that the deal was agreed upon where everybody but Bron and Kuz remain, you already have an idea that more salary was added as a necessity to salary match cause our max spot would still be available and couldn't be used to absorb any of AD's salary. But instead we got Zo/BI/Hart and that's not enough salary unless you sacrifice your cap space now or use the 4th as a salary aggregator later. Why leak the details to allow that type of speculation and narrative? Wild.
I actually think she’s already been freezed out. Feels like after Magic’s departure we’ve made a concerted effort to keep things more tight lipped internally, and that’s when Ramona’s tone took a 180. She used to be too obvious in how much she’d suck up to us to the point where it was obvious Jeanie was her source. Then all of a sudden she started taking legit shots at Jeanie specifically.
Deadline deal: A possible postseason appearance and not conceding year 1 of our Bron investment. Final offer consisted of 2 1st round picks. One of which wasn't projected to be lottery if AD was traded midseason and we made the playoffs. Final offer had Zu, who was traded anyways, as well as other trade fodder to take in Solomon. We've seen now BK dump an expiring for 2 1st rounders and how the Bucks offloaded 2yrs of Snell for the 30th pick. Also Solomon stretched is 4m of dead cap (while that 4th pick that was gifted to us is a 7.1m caphold). Also also, let Rob grease the buyout wheels that he used on Deng to drop that number even further. Summer trade: We spare Kuz, but we are projected to give up everybody else, add an extra pick and add an extra pick swap. All while giving up the 4th pick, which would have been a non-lottery pick if the deadline deal went through. All that and we still don't know if a max slot is open for Kawhi...all that and we still gave up the house with all the leverage we had. Like I said, wait till August and you only need to send out Zo, BI, signed 4th to have a legal trade.
Sooo last week I got a private tour of the UCLA training center (work gig). I will post pics and go into detail later, BUT...I spoke with staff a lot that day and once they realized i was a diehard fan (and im a charming sob haha). They started spilling the beans a bit. I was told that Ramona is NOT liked by most Laker employees because if she doesn't get the inside scoop, she will spill the dirt on various platforms. They said she doesn't flat out lie, but she def over exaggerates and is very negative. I was also told that Magic was a pleasure to work with. He was tough but fair. I ran into 3 people...Brandon Ingram, Linda and Kurt. Kurt and Lindas presence was felt everywhere. Especially Kurt. Our poster Mr. Rambis was right. The real Kurt Rambis is running the show. At least thats the impression I got from lots of staff.
I believe nothing the media says. All full of horse s***. You will never convince me a freakin agent who's job is to know exactly how the cap works, all of a sudden didnt know how the cap works. C'mon, give me a break. Pelinka will find a way to get a 3rd max if the guy they want wants to come here.
