Listen friend...we were bidding against ourselves. We had leaks with our kiddies again with the only constants being Rob in bball ops for both teams. I doubt Klutch leaks that info to hurt a potential AD deal. You undercut Klutch by saying in spite of them Rob made this deal. But how does that happen if AD's a Klutch agent. Just keeping it 100...like I said TBD...in a few weeks we will have our answer once we see our cap sheet.
Best be competitive for the next 5 years. AD prime + another superstar and this doesn’t matter as much. Window until 2025 to make the best teams possible no excuses.
Yeah. I’m with you. It was pretty clear everyone else was bailing on making a deal primarily because Rich Paul was letting it be known Davis wouldn’t resign. I like that we kept a Kuz but it’s tough for me to say this was any better than what Magic was up to. It sounds like the timing will work out for a max slot which is also good but Rob just hasn’t won me over yet.
2020 pick - Ours 2021 - Pelicans, no pick 2022 - Ours 2023 - If Pelicans still bad and we are worse we still get a good pick. Pelicans won’t be better than LA. 2024 - Better be good 2025 - See 2023 We lose 2021 and 2024 picks for sure 2023 and 2025 picks the only way we get screwed is if the Pelicans are really good and the Lakers are really bad It looks bad but really it’s not.
Keep in mind, Magic's deal also had us sending out Kuz and Moe and taking back Solomon Hill which would have lost our Max FA slot.
Wait this is Rich (pun intended)... With just Bron/AD/Deng on our books we still didn't have the max. So Solomon stretched would have added roughly 4m onto our books. Plus Deng was bought out & stretched by Rob, so there's that option. You do know Rob's deal is 6 minimum with the potential for 9 players gone (ie with swaps and if trade is official in July, taking away a max player). So forget 9 vs 11... It's now 6 vs 9... Which side you on? Oh and btw, I guess execs do lopsided trades like this...but when an armchair guy does it, you got jokes. :Joshharthearthands:
LOL at the thread title. Pretty hilarious! Well, congrats and props to Pelinka for getting AD here and still keeping one of our young guys. That was what I wanted and he achieved that. He did have to give up more in the prospect department than anyone anticipated to get it done, but I'm ok with that. Let's see what else he can do to pull in another top FA and put together a championship roster before we get too carried away.
Also keep in mind that, by the time we hit 2023, Lebron's $40mil is of the books, so we will have a lot of other options outside of Draft picks..
I can’t see how the Pelicans are bad in 2023 and 2025, they’ll have Lonzo, Ingram, Hart, Zion, Pick 4 and probably Randle all in their prime or assets they get from trading them + all our picks and their picks over that time. They’re positioned best out of any young franchise to be a great team through the 2020’s. Anyone 35+ is a bad injury away from being finished, while it just takes AD missing a few months one season to convey a really good asset. We definitely paid a lot, and that’s just the risks we have to live with.
Yeah I think they'll start making the playoffs in the 2020-21 season. I kind of want them to sign DLO. We'd then be able to witness our alternate future lol
Agreed, all this tells me is that we just need to as least make the playoffs till 2025. Granted our goals and aspirations are far more than just that but if we do at least that for the bare minimum we'll be just fine getting through those pick swaps.
