Why isn’t anyone talking about Coby White? Is there that big of a talent difference between him and Garland?
i think he's firmly in the mix of players expected to be drafted between 4 and 8 (along with garland, hunter, culver, and reddish). the bit i saw of him in college, i worried about his shot and whether the way he attacks the basket will be as successful against nba-level rim protection. essentially the same stuff that worries me about culver. the very limited footage of garland has him finishing more like steph curry and not relying on elite burst or physical strength to get shots off in the paint.
Garland seems more fluid as well. Garland was ranked in the top 2-3 as far as high school students coming in. He has the chance to be the best player in this draft. I'm not sold at all on Zion. I think he can be a slightly better Blake Griffin. That's a great player, but not a Top 5, puts you in contention by himself type player.
yeah, i agree. zion reminds me a lot of young larry johnson, who was really good prior to the injuries. is that a generational talent, though? not sure. we'll see. all the scouts agree. and garland could bust, too. but his skill set seems tailor-made for the way the league is trending. i still think it's possible that if he works out for memphis or ny, they might take him over barrett or morant. yeah, sounds like he doesn't know much about what we're doing. but hey, neither do we!
I hate the idea of taking a player with a longer college career or that might be more ready right away to “contribute” but has a lower ceiling, than taking the best player available and developing him into the best player he can be. That’s dumb imo. You either trade the pick for immediate help in an established all-star caliber player, or you draft the best player available and let that play out regardless of LeBron’s age. How is taking a rookie that’s maybe marginally more ready to help you for one year, but will never be as good as another rookie long term smart? How?
It isn't. Especially since the margin by which Hunter or Culver MIGHT be better than Garland isn't large enough to make much of a difference as it pertains to us competing with the upper echelon teams. So the Warriors beat us by 12 points instead of 15. Awesome.
i'm for gambling on upside near the top of the draft, and in the modern era, that means gambling on elite skill/hoop iq as opposed to size and athleticism, imo. luka doncic ain't outrunning or outjumping anyone. but he's going to beat that a**.
