I hold no ill will toward Magic for taking a gigantic dump on the team's present and near future. He gave me way too much joy back in the day for me to hate on him. I just don't want him making any more decisions for the team, and I would strongly urge Jeanie to no longer lean on his advice.
With the recent news of the Stotts extension announced by Olshey himself, I think that option is now out of play. That means Masai and Myers are still in the fold, however we have gotten nothing from our FO to indicate we even received permission to talk to those guys...let alone have any interest in them. So at the moment, I'm disheartened with how this all played out. I sat back and gave this time...but it doesn't look like we're progressing towards anything fruitful. I liked the Magic hire (I'm biased tho) and wanted to see it through, but if Jeanie made a mistake in hiring yet another familiar face in her circle....Magic gave her an out and 3 months to right it. Instead, you do nothing and actually validate his concerns. I've been optimistic through this whole thing, but coming out the combine with no official clarification on our FO or their official roles and no news of possible candidates when many were in arm's reach at the combine is concerning. I still like the Seto hire, I still will ride with the Mamba's guy and I still like Vogel even if he's our 3rd option...I even think that the media is making too much out of our FO situation in regards to free agency. But it's where we go from here that concerns me. We got Bron (which appears to be a Magic hire and it seems Magic was ready to make it all the way #TeamKlutch with trading for AD and wanting Lue at coach). Then we have some voices on the team that think Bron/Klutch and his "posse" shouldn't be given more power (maybe thats Phil/Kurt and possibly Rob seeing how he knew how to leverage Kobe against us when he was his agent). Then you have the insistence of Kidd on the coaching staff (who is that?...Jeanie? Cuz she doesn't want Kuz and any of the kiddies to leave in an AD trade). These factions is setting up s*** to get real confusing, real messy and it's completely unnecessary. One thing that Magic said was absolute truth...define clear roles/responsibilities and have everybody stay in their pocket, instead of coming for yours. You said it best tho...when Jeanie felt like she was being pulled in too many directions, she needed to purge this s***. I was willing to give it time to figure itself out, but having Rob come outright at the Vogel presser and say the FO will stand pat and the Prez position is now defunct has me going daf*** it should?! We need leadership...not leakurship.
Yes that would have also effectively fired Pelinka as everyone knows a Myers or Buford level or lower PBO even as first order of business would do that. And whatever which none of us know for certain went on behind the scenes Jeanie declined Magic's request to fire Rob. But Magic trying to force something to that effect with the request to fire him and then himself quitting abruptly after failing getting to get it done. Jeanie said NO and it is her decision based on however she went about it to keep Rob and de-activate again the PBO position. What Magic just ripped away from the Lakers franchise at this most crucial moment is as others have said the powerful charisma and sales ability of having both Magic and LeBron in harmony recruiting the prime FAs and then sitting across the table from them. Now we're down to Rob and Vogel and god help us whoever else sitting at the table. And only can HOPE LeBron still gives a **** enough to do his very best to recruit and sell. I don't have warm fuzzies about that going forward with Magic and the FO having done what they did prior to "signing Ty Lue" and this upcoming FA period that everyone has been planning for.
No worries, Lebron and Kobe would seal the deal for these millenials. These kids haven't seen Magic play and he's damn near a fossil to them, not to the extent of Bill Russell of course lol
I fully expect a tweet from him to say "Team A outscored Team B in 2 of 4 games. Team B outscored Team A in the other 2. That's why we have a tied series. " (basically a simplified version of the above)
Would be cool if Kobe would officially recruit in tandem with LeBron. I always feel like any FA no matter how good should be pitched private tutoring from Kobe if he wants it. In Kobe's private gym, if he still has one now. Technically all around he is the best that has ever done it, and right there the best or 1.A best behind Hakeem with back to back doctorate degrees. As a player why would you not if you were here. Tatum says hello. Giannis I think. Durant knows. Like you say all these guys know Kobe. Kobe kind of got us into this mess with the GM position sale to Jeanie and Magic just laid everyone out even pulling Bryant's name into the muck because of that. Hey Kobe ..... you want until the PBO position gets opened again .... to act in the Jerry West consultant mode? For nice part time money? Just a thought. Part time Kobe working with Rob could not be bad.
That's hilarious... here's another obvious statement! You can't out-Golden State, Golden State...having shooters to attempt in outshooting them ain't the way to beat them. Like duh Magic, we all obviously knew that already haha. Btw, game recognize game... ... and this is coming from the dude that "apparently" had his retirement game slighted with Magic's impromptu resignation.
Is there anyone here that's slamming Magic for being lazy? If so, I missed it. The man is not lazy. He''s a whirlwind of various commitments and activities. The issue with Magic as POBO was not laziness, but a combo of giving a part time effort when at his initial presser he promised 150% effort, and poor decision making. He's owned up to some of those poor decisions, but I have only heard excuses and justifications about his giving far less than 150% to the actual job.
being M.I.A from office isn't bout being lazy or not working hard.....but pt being was that BPO is NOT some part-time Gig nor like any one of Magic side business where he can just come in and check on status of the business and leave. Yes we know BPO delegates day to day, but doesn't mean they're not in the office majority of the time or all of the time that they're suppose to be there. Now the other thing we can debate or give Magic a "pass" on this issue is the fact that Jeanie may have given him the "ok" for the job even though Magic supposedly said that he told her prior to taking the job it was ALWAYS going to be part-time thing and he would NOT give up his side business, which has already been refuted with the spectrum interview when he sat with Jeanie and he CLEARLY said, if it wasn't for jeanie and respect for Dr. Buss he would not leave his business....so Mr. Contradictory at its finest right there. NOBODY better be defending that BS from Ervin when he said would fully commit himself to that role and now we're hearing this was a 3yr tenure all along, another BS from Mr. Contradictory....3yrs dont accomplish s*** in any capacity in an Exec role for any business.
Poor decision making? You're assuming he was given decisions to make. Clearly a simple decision as firing a coach to hire your own was a decision you would assume he had 150% control over...and you would have assumed wrong. Btw here are other assumptions that are wrong in Laker Land: we operate in the same manner as other organizations do. Woj on Prez Magic: "He has these other businesses, other interests, and travelling, so people would tell you they didn't see him around much, he wasn't in the office a good deal. Now, a lot of that responsibility goes to Rob Pelinka, Magic's the President and Rob's the GM, and Rob does the job, he scouts and he's in there, but Magic did not treat it with the respect that it demands, and it's a full time 365 day a year job and Magic treated it like one of his several entities." Woj on VP Lindsey: "In moves that reshape the front office of one of the Western Conference's perennial playoff franchises, the Utah Jazz have promoted general manager Dennis Lindsey to executive vice president of basketball operations and assistant GM Justin Zanik to GM, the team announced Friday. Lindsey, the Jazz's general manager since 2012, will take on a broader, strategic and leadership role, and Zanik will become responsible for the day-to-day duties of running basketball operations. "We are excited for these promotions as they further enable Dennis to provide executive leadership and overall strategic vision for Jazz basketball operations and give Justin the opportunity for greater impact on our organization," Jazz president Steve Starks said in a statement. "As one of the brightest young executives in the league, Justin will be responsible for the day-to-day operations. Their leadership allows us to work collectively toward our championship goals." Magic "Tampering" with Giannis: "I’m just happy he’s starting in the All-Star game because he deserves that. And he’s going to be like an MVP, a champion, this dude he’s going to put Milwaukee on the map. And I think he’s going to bring them a championship one day.” Danny Ainge Non-Tampering Giannis & LeBron: “Sure, I mean, I second-guess a lot of guys,” he said. “But, yeah, based on the information I had at the time of the draft, I don’t really second-guess. “But based on the information from when I first saw him in the summer league, I absolutely started second-guessing,” Ainge added through a chuckle, his eyes widening. “Like, who is that kid right there?” The C’s wanted to pick Kelly Olynyk, so they traded up from 16 to Dallas’ spot at 13. Antetokounmpo, gifted but very raw, went at 15 to Milwaukee. “He’s a lot like LeBron in some ways, in that he’s just a good all-around player,” said Ainge. “Shooting may be his biggest weakness, but it doesn’t really matter if he even makes shots; he’s just so effective at still scoring and scoring efficiently and creating offense. And obviously LeBron’s become a very good shooter as his career has moved on, and Giannis is getting better, too. But the fact is that they’re just bigger and more athletic than most everybody they go against, and they have such versatility offensively and defensively. ----- Y'all think Magic is hypocritical...and that's fine. But that hypocrisy goes way past Magic and I would present more examples, but I'm lazy and that's just me keeping it 150 with y'all.
you always try to justify Magic non presence at the office by using these other BPO's delegating of duties to their GM but where in those report say these BPO are rarely seen in the office or that these BPO did so cause they had other side gigs to attend to?
Vas, do yourself a favor and own up to what Magic himself has owned up to. He admitted he made some bad decisions. Now you're defending him for stuff he has already given a Mea Culpa to doing.
Time, and do yourself a favor and read through my posts in their entirety...unless you're too lazy to do so haha. I've criticized Magic accordingly. I've owned up to my bias towards Magic and now I'm just pointing out all the bulls***.
my goodness. i'm not sure what's going on here. a few of us (including me) were skeptical of the new regime from the get-go. a bunch more got on board. vash has been defending the faith for the duration. and now he's...turning on jeanie and rob for magic? is that vindication? edit: the main point is that i'm not sure what the bickering is about. the FO was and is a mess, as many of us thought. let's pray it improves.
Nah, Jeanie's my home girl. Plus she allows those close to her to talk s*** on her and will still show up for our weekly dinners. We good. Not to sound cheeky, but as long as I show Rob my good side and continuously show it day in and day out, we're good. In fact, I call my guy R. Pelly cause dude always be talking about the heavens showering us with manna. Personally, I think he's just talking about taking a leak. Gotta be all that Sweet & Lowe he takes with his tea at our weekly dinners with Jeanie. Btw Mr. Rambis can confirm all of this for me.
