Like everyone else I'm sure, I get madder and madder the more I think about what he just deliberately did to the Lakers organization. Well almost everyone here. And no wonder Jeanie didn't come down (again) to face the press, first time from him quitting like he did and then the FO having to scramble like hell since, and now just blowing up the franchise at the most critical point in like forever, and blindsiding her again on the day they introduce their new coach. And that's not a defense of Jeanie. Still think Rob and Frank handled that about as well as anyone could under the circumstances.
On the court, Magic was hands down my favorite Laker. As a coach and basketball executive he’s absolute sh*t.
First things first, let's get the correct timeline out the way first. Magic had the First Take interview scheduled 2 weeks ago. The Lakers knew this and still scheduled Vogel's intro presser on that same day. So who really torpedoed Vogel's big day? Per LA Times, Brad Turner Per LA Times, Bill Plaschke So the Lakers knew he was about to go public and scheduled the Vogel presser on the same day regardless. No public comments were made towards the FO and it's heirarchy after Magic stepped down on April 9th and none were still made a month & a half later at the combine. They made Magic drag his feet on key decisions like Luke and that trend was blatantly obvious after Magic stepped down in how they handled Lue and Magic's resignation. Fab4: I'm not trying to convince you bro. I'm just giving another perspective on it. Also you mentioned Magic has no real power anymore to come out publicly like this since he was a franchise player with Westhead, but now he's just a fan like us...so if he has no power, why you scared in how his voice impacts free agency? Kou: And tell me how I'm contradictory when I pointed out Magic'snerrors like BroLo (resigning), like staying mute when the leaks were hot & heavy (bad decisions) and like not staying on the job and seeing it through (commitment to the job). As for erring in bringing in shooting: -you're limited on 1yr contracts to go get them (and we did target JJ Redick but dude wanted his early bird rights with Philly) if you're aiming to get Kawhi this summer -on First Take he said if he was still the PBO he would go try to get a shooter with the mle this summer after locking up our cap with a max guy (sorry Magic we only got the room exception to spend, but Rob's the CBA guy so you get a pass by misspeaking, but I can't help you on that Shaggy P bit) -lastly this shooters narrative is tired and broken: the Rox, cLips and Portland all ranked in the top 4 with the dubs in 3fg% in the playoffs...and what happened? This year alone, shooters wouldn't have made a difference against the dubs. How's that saying go? You can't out Golden State, the turd that is golden... Well it goes something like that. I think Jamma might know. Anyways the truth of the matter Kou, Jamma or whoever is that Magic urged Jeanie on April 9th to entertain finding a replacement for him. He said that job was coveted and many would be interested in it. A month & a half later, she let the "others" talk her down from it and they decided to vacatethat position entirely. If Magic tells his CBA guy to go get a big man who can stretch the floor since he admits he f***ed up in not retaining BroLo, and then your CBA guy comes back with Zu/Beas for Mus as the best option, I'm sorry that means it's Magic and definitely the CBA guy that f***ed that one up. That same CBA guy is now in charge of the Lakers. I'm willing to give him a chance for sure (since he's Mamba certified), but Mahiv did us a favor on April 9th and still no new legit PBO to replace him...so light em up.
I have nothing more to add really as this is going in circles, I appreciate your opinion and disagree. He will still always be a hero to our organisation and if the current FO messes up this summer they will be on the block next.
Kou: I'm not a fan of how Magic did it, but it needed to be said and someone from the FO needed to publicly shine a light on it or in this case, light em up. I sincerely want Jeanie to succeed. I sincerely want the Rambii to succeed. I sincerely want Rob to succeed cause he's all we got now. But we had a month & a half to find a PBO and at the very least sincerely conduct a search to find one, but our FO didnt even address it to the loyal fan base. We had to play sleuths and decipher the heirarchy through sources. Now we're a month away from the draft, roughly 5 weeks away from free agency and we have no PBO. Magic gave us 3 months to find his replacement. That's completely discouraging to me since I wanted Magic to succeed and if not him, then the best possible candidates were still out there to do so for us. But still nada and we ain't even wiser for it. Did anyone even understand Rob's explanation at Vogel's presser and more importantly was it even sincere? Anyways, in Luie of what happened, I'm still hoping for the best, but I'm bracing for impact. I would have had a lot more faith going forward had we not blown an absolute layup in our coaching search.
I was talking to some coworkers a few months back about Jim Rome. We were reminiscing about some of the stuff he would say on his show. If his late 90's, early 2000's show was still going today, he would be absolutely murdered on Twitter.
Interesting aside early in that above is what is the reception informally from personnel there and from the fans when Tragic wants to kill some time and be a fan and walk back into the UCLA facility to say Hi to his "sister" and is picked up in Staples during games? Bet there's at least a few boos with the latter and terribly awkward with the former. Hate what he did. Yeah even if he did sign to do the interview first, when the Lakers scheduled the Vogel presser, and knowing what he was going to do .... and Jeanie probably never expecting he was going to do what he did .... Magic could have re-scheduled his hatchet job and Jeanie with hindsight as well could have rescheduled. **** Magic for doing that.
call me petty but I'm not allowing him back at the practice facility, as for Staples he can come and PAY for his own ticket or if ESPN invited him on their dime....no more special access or "special guest" he can go eat his popcorn in the stands like the rest of us.
what will you have Jeanie the Incompetent do then? layout the red carpet and have his court side seat gold plated?
I know he probably didn't intend for it, but the savage sub in this is hilarious. Them sea of tears make for some fine seasoning. If Rob is Kob in questioning Magic's work ethic like Shaq's...then I guess this is Tragic asking y'all, how his a** taste? Butt this isn't anything like Kob, cause Kob didn't leak his feelings towards Shaq. The Mamba hissed his venom from his own damn mouth. Also those wanting to be petty about not letting him through the door, he's still in the building with that jersey hanging up there and of course he'll even meet you out front and point y'all towards the door. Helluva guy! #StaySalty
Yeah I agree with all this, we all want the Lakers to succeed, it’s worrying how our FO is run, I think everyone here knows the perils of hiring friends in a working relationship. She really should of purged the whole thing, but by the sounds of things they never had any intention of filling the spot Magic vacated as it was supposedly created only for him. Let’s hope they can salvage this train wreck, I’m not so hopeful.
It's also interesting how it will go the next few weeks. I imagine that they may still need Magic to smooth things over with guys who no doubt question Rob at this point. Either way, I don't think anyone should have the expectation that Magic won't be around anymore.
Tragic is only good for his hilarious tweets nowadays. Just stay the F away from the Lakers. Every move he makes puts us in a worse position.
