Magic was a symptom of the larger problem which is Jeannie Buss's leadership style. She remains the common thread through all of this. She hires people she likes instead of getting the best for the job and that will continue to cause problems. Rob Pelinka is the same thing he's always been, an inexperienced GM trying to figure things out. I'll say again, this isn't a summer internship. We should have hired qualified people from day one not a bunch of people learning as they go. Make a trade for AD, Beal, or someone where we don't get fleeced. Then I'll be impressed. I'll praise these folks when we start winning again. Not a single moment sooner.
I think the Lakers were scrambling around after Magic left and fumbled their communications on the coaching change. The rushed firing Luke and then announced they were entering negotiations with Lue which was a mistake. The Laker leadership had a vision and Lue was not matching up but they should have figured that out ahead of time. I am okay with the Vogel hire but they were very awkward in how they hired and announced him. What the Lakers need to do is provide a vision not just for the fans but for potential free agents. Some injury updates on Hart, Ball and Ingram would also be nice. How about a little update and promotion on Bonga and Wagner. What are they doing in terms of development? Magic squandered Bryant, Randle and Zubac getting basically nothing in return which was mind blowing stupid. He also mishandled the NO Davis trade and screwed up the whole team. He admitted it but seemed to have no regrets. I think it is good that he is gone. It is time to start the story about our future which is still bright despite the missteps by Magic. We have Lebron, 4 good young players, the number 4 pick and a max slot. We are not that far away if we sign a top FA and make a good pick or a good trade. We need to maximize the return we get if we decide to trade our assets which until now we failed to do. I feel quite positive and I don't think Rob will make mind blowing stupid decisions. Pelinka is a really smart guy and works really hard but he seems to seek the blessing of the Lord which can really help. I am hopeful and feeling good right now.
yeah, the mess that is the front office is distracting from the positives, which is that we still have our best young players, lebron, and flexibility. the media wants to bury that story, but hopefully we'll push it effectively to kawhi or kyrie.
Despite all my critiques, I haven't lost sight of this and still think we're going to stumble our way to landing at one of those guys.
Just a side note that I thought about in another thread. Anyone know what happened to the lawyer guy on Twitter who I think worked for Jeannie at some point saying Rob was going to be sued or fired one way or another?
think thats the same bozo who guranteed Kawahi to us was a done deal and subsequently deleted his acct as he also made another idiotic tweet suggesting that Rob was having an affair or some sort of sexual contact with EJ jr.
shawn matian or something like that. Someone posted one of his tweets recently the guy is still active. I'll look him up.
oh k I was thinking of mr. untouchable then? the guy who tweeted Kawahi is a lock here and Rob is playing hide the banana with Ej jr? lol
This guy is absolute garbage. I called him out on few suspect tweets which he deleted then blocked me. He has no source and thinks he's a source because he's a "lawyer". "being misplaying her hand". Great grammar for an attorney. Umm no.
jeanie hasnt criticized anyone, she hasn't said s***, she even thanked him after he embarrassed her with that public i quit antics
After Magic quit, this chump started claiming that not only was Jeanie going to fire Rob, but she was going to sue him with a massive lawsuit. Lmao dude is a clown.
Sometimes the high road isn’t taken as the high road in the absence of clear direction and strong leadership.
Just out of curiosity, who's here on the train of I'm with magic or I'm with Rob. To me it sounds like Rob called out magic for being lazy and magic was all in his feelings. I'm actually kinda on Rob's side, even though I still rather have a real (experienced) pbo like Bob Myers etc. I just feel like ppl are out to get his job (money talks) and want to label him as a snake, little finger, bad guy etc. Because one it's great article click bait talk and two someone wants that bag $$$$ and is envious. I'm personally giving Rob the benefit of the doubt.
I'm on team backstabber right now. I'm rooting for the snake and Jeannie and Joey and Ryan and whoever else is there like the Rambii or whoever. You know why? Cause they stuck with their jobs. They are doing the work. Magic on the other hand quit and I'm not sure I like most of his calls that he's taking credit for. So good riddance, Mag. It's a bummer to say it 'cause he is one of our greatest, but he put himself above the franchise and blamed everyone else. I'm over it. So yeah, I'm a Lakers fan first and foremost. Not a Kobe fan or Shaq fan or Magic fan, ultimately. I want the team to succeed over any individuals and so I want us to get a premiere free agent and reload the squad around Lebron. I hope they can put together a contender. I don't care what Magic does any more. He's not part of it.
i'm not on either team, but i hope for our sake that rob is better at this than magic was. i do worry that magic being affiliated with the team held sway with our FA targets, though. we'll see...
