Yeah, considering magic wanted to bury rob, doubling down one the zu trade and admitting fault on the awful summer decisions was an odd choice.
You forgot the part where Magic mentioned, as entirely a throw-away comment, that D-Lo had the whole “Shaggy-P” incident, so he had to go. Brilliant basketball mind Jeanie put in place there. Snitches get traded. Wait..I can do better.. traitors get walking papers. No, uh... tattletales can set sail. Rats get sent to NY where they belong S***, I suck at this
Check out 19:20 into the press conference. Plastchke asks Rob about Linda Rambis’ role, and just watch Rob’s immediate body language. He almost rolls his eyes.
Just a disappointing day. There was no possible good outcome of Magic’s actions. WTH was he thinking? If I’m Jeanie, I’m asking him not to come around for awhile. This has to sting a bit.
she had dinner with him few week after his initial i quit annoucement, im sure she has a lunch date scheduled already
It was all for his ego, but he came out badly and low brow, while Rob took the high road and handled it with class
Forget the sarcasm tags, or serious? Magic was a cause of the problems, but the root is clearly Jeanie. If everyone else gets along just fine it wouldn’t have taken weeks and weeks to hire the obvious coach, only for that to then fall apart because like Magic said (and I believe him on this part), Jeanie has too many people whose opinion she’s asking for and they don’t all line up. So we have Rob lowballing Lue, we have Kurt(?) insisting Kidd be hired to his staff, it’s a mess.
It doesn't matter who gets along.....it matters who knows sh***. Jeanie surrounding herself with her numskull buddies sure get along just fine...the problem is instead of solving problems they create new ones. For the record: I'm not defending Magic. I thought he was an absolutely unqualified person for this job on any level. The guy can barely speak a sentence without a grammar or pronunciation mistake, so he isn't particularly bright to begin with.
When so many things go wrong in any business, you have to look to leadership first. Problems this big generally start at the top. Yes Rob lowballed Lue, due to Kurt. Kurt was the reason they insisted on Kidd, but that was to get rid of Lue. He actually didn't care much for Kidd either way, but his tactics backfired and his words left a strong impression about Kidd in Jeanie and Pelinka's mind, given Kurt was the only one in the front office with actual basketball experience.
How does a man, who was a failed head coach, a has-been assistant coach, and hasn’t been in the basketball scene in some time have so much goddamn pull in this organization? How did the rambis’ Even get in the picture? After this magic interview, I’ve surmised he’s the problem while Jeanie is number one. Rob is just the man that’s getting the blame cause he’s the outside man. He’s not directly connected to the Lakers like magic is. Sounds like magic had his feelings hurt, and allowed his ego to waltz on tv and make it worse. Sounds like rob called him out, and he took offense. This “backstabbing” that espn keeps on using, is nothing more than rob hurting Magic’s ego. I’m glad he’s gone, I’m hoping this dysfunctional time period fades into oblivion soon. Oh and to add, magic Johnson was never truly fully invested in this team as president, as per his interview. Rob was.
I'm gonna have to agree because Magic's new whine completely comes across as Jim Buss II "Yeah I come in to work late when I come at all and don't do anything, so what? I'm Magic Johnson. And now this guy who works his *** off is calling me and my work habits out. Me, Been-To-The-Finals-9-Times-Magic Johnson? Oh hell no." As soon as I get in to that office in 3-4 days or so after I finish binge watching GOT again, I'm resigning. But I'll give a speech to make sure everyone notices I'm not there any more".
Well I don't know how well Pelinka will do other than I know he is really smart and a good negotiator. I do know after yesterday that Magic is the one that made the mind blowing stupid decisions on Randle and Zubac. Maybe he didn't notice that Randle shot better from 3 than Kuzma. Maybe he didn't know they needed a small ball center. Zubac trade was just plain stupid. I at least feel good that Pelinka did not make these decision or the decisions to surround Lebron with a bunch of broken down guys that can't shoot.
I'm waiting for Rob's big "State of the Union" address and to answer Magic and all his detractors. All I know is it will be Biblical in proportions.
