I think Rob did a great job clearing the mess made by Jim and Mitch to put us in position for max players. Getting rid of Mozgov, getting an impact player like Lopez and a pick that became Kuzma in the process. If I recall correctly Lou Will had wanted to go to a playoff team and we facilitated that and got another pick in the process. The first contract we gave to KCP was actually pretty great at the time considering there was no one else really available at the time and it established some Klutch ties. Getting rid of Clarkson’s contract and getting a pick and possible reclamation project in IT. The one year deals for Rondo, Lance, Javale, etc. Yes, it backfired. But I think that was moreso because of fit and Magic having this weird vision of an anti-Warriors team. Considering what options were there willing to take a one year deal, I think those were actually all good signings for the value. I think Rob is fine. Rambis is the one that worries me. I hope Rob gets the final say in basketball decisions and doesn’t have to worry about Kurt overruling him.
The Lou Williams trade happened before Rob was hired, that was Magic, but your point is still well taken. That’s my problem though, it’s incredibly hard, if not impossible to separate Rob’s moves and Magic’s moves. I feel like the Russ for Mozgov one was probably a combo, Magic wanting Russ gone, Rob working the math of how it would help us. I did and still do like the JC/Nance for IT/pick trade, cleared up space we needed if I remember right. Beyond that though it’s been bad, Rondo was overpaid, Lance was overpaid, Beasley was pointless, only McGee exceeded what he was being paid. Then the baffling Zu for Muscala trade, awful. Again, only Svi for Bullock made any real sense, it was just to late to help by then, the team had fractured. I hope you are right though, I’m not rooting against Rob, if he’s good we will be good, and that’s what I want, I just have very little faith at this time. I feel like our only hope is LeBron recruiting a star and then we have to hope Rob can convince quality players/actual shooters to come here to fill out the roster, or hope he can negotiate with NO and stop doing it like he’s still an agent and pissing people off to the point they walk away from the table. As for Kurt, we agree, I don’t even want to discuss that loser.
I know Jesse could be another Laker exec with lip service but he's very candid and gives great insight into at least how other execs perceived Magic and more importantly now, Rob and the job they did last summer. It's stuff that we've known or assumed ourselves, but he's the assistant GM, so he fleshes it out and corroborates some of our assumptions on the matter.
maybe jeanie figures since magic wasnt around much n team still "functioned" as rob did most of the work, it would be waste of $ to hire a bpo
Just a thought: shouldn't a former elite agent be much better at selling and damage control? That's the bulk of his former job. He should be out in front showing (whether it's real or fake) a sense control and calming reassurance. Maybe we'll get that at today's presser, but we should have gotten it within 24 hours of Magic's departure. Being an agent is all about spin and controlling the narrative. I've seen none of that.
There was no real reason to keep him around even before today. Best and brightest are interested and we aren't taking advantage. We're gambling on him stumbling his way to a good summer when we don't have to.
That ship sailed and sank 10 miles off the coast as they forgot to put in the transom plug. Any boaters out there? Big transom and big plug.
I'm willing to bet with Magic's interview today, Jeanie is even that much more resolved to keeping thing's status quo.....firing him for no good reason other than "heresay" and Magic's comments would make her look even more incompetent.
Say what you want about Rob, but he was unflappable in that Vogel press conference today. He answered some pretty direct questions with b*lls of steel.
After today, confirmation is Rob works, Magic didn't. Rob called him out on it, Magic got pissed, Jeanie didn't defend Magic first, Magic quits. Lebron and Klutch still take a lot of blame for the AD decision but sometimes you have to risk to reep the big reward. They got played bad, now it's time to do the next task the correct way. Let's see what happens in 40 days.
Good point. But I just dont see this ownership group and current FO taking us back to a c-ship level. The Buss family circus and show is a tired act now.
Well, there was that rumor that Jeannie and her bestie Linda like him because he’s easy on the eyes. Add to that some smooth wording and he closes the deal.
Is this another leak by a Laker sauce or just your opinion? Haha If Magic is to be believed and Rob was angling for his spot, then being the godfather to the Mamba's minimambas was no acssssssident. Either way, Rob has that spot now pretty much all to himself...and hes now in control of our Lakers. So I sincerely hope he succeeds. Again, our cap positioning is great. We have the ability to get Kawhi or Ky at near max and still trade for AD (while possibly sparing some of the youth). I hope to gawd it works out...but Rob unable to close on Lue (who appeared to be a near lock) has me a bit hesssssitant.
Yeah, they say psychopaths are really good at this sort of thing, it’s how they rise to the top so quick or so well.
Kinda gave me confidence going forward. I know he won't sell the farm for someone which I fear most. plus Magic copping to all the moves I hate, elevated my opinion of Rob
