Regarding the Mo Wagner pick, Magic thought he would be a more marketable version of Brook Lopez. I can confirm he did overrule the scouting department, on more than one occasion. That resulted in some surprising selections, both good and bad.

Take that for what it's wroth

Man, that Randle stuff. If you’re not telling the truth, you’re a fantastic storyteller, because that’s how it looked from the outside without some of the gaps you filled in. The Lakers did him dirty in a lot of our opinions, though I know some around here don’t agree on that point, which is fine, we can disagree.

How can the "some" sum this rehash up right quick..

We did Jules dirty, by making him an unrestricted free agent a year in advance. Sac, Indy, ATL, Chicago, Philly all had cash to spend. Did they?

BK traded for DLo...didn't offer him an extension and are "mistreating" him the same way we did Jules.
    #CapGame

As for Luke being coerced to play guys on minute restrictions. He sure want coerced in employing a shooting coach or changing up.his bench. So I'm not sure about all of that.

As for beating the dubs with grit and grind....Bev & Trez say hi...and so does Cp3 & PJ Tucker. But of course, you're going to need the dubs to catch some of that fatcatitis.

There’s always the option of not rehashing the argument, since it’s been argued in circles many times. When I said some I did mean some, you’re not the only one here of the opinion we did nothing wrong with how we handled Randle in his last year here, and again, that’s fine, we don’t have to agree on that, it’s how some see it, and others don’t. Like your point about Russ not getting an extension, I could argue why that didn’t happen when he immediately got to BKN, but why would I rehash that?

    Hey @vasashi17,
I responded to you in a different thread. But the news about Randle is not something that unusual. Many GMs ask coaches to do similar things for them. It doesn't represent a bad GM. I personally don't agree with the tactic but many other teams use it too. It was just about the Lakers trying to keep up an image. And with D'Angelo, there were a number of issues as to why we traded him, which I explained a little earlier.

Pelinka is not the worst GM in the world, by any stretch. In many ways he's a smart, saavy individual who is capable. He's just new and really needs some guidance right now. But Linda and Kurt are creating a lot of noise instead, and Jeanie is pressuring Rob in difficult ways to yield to Kurt and Linda's advice. This is not a good situation for a newer GM, and I think Pelinka is doing his best. He is taking the fall for many things like the Lue negotiations, but in reality Kurt was behind most of that debacle.

I still believe in the high level vision of Pelinka and Magic's plan. Neither are bad guys. Just a lot of unfortunate event.

when we say mistreatment of Randle, we're talking bout benching him in favor of Nance, constantly criticizing him for what he did wrong rather than what he did right, while nance couldn't shoot worth a lick either he got to start over Randle. Magic asked him to come back that season in the best shape of his life and he did that, but instead of reward him, they benched him for no good reason. Only reason he got more playing time cause it was pretty obvious Randle was in a totally different league as far as talent goes compared to nance and of course the fact that mgmt. probably NEVER had any serious thought bout extending him.

I mean, if this was Pelinka's petty attitude from the get-go, why the hell didn't we try trading him for something...anything?

@Mr. Rambis Thanks for the breakdown, but I'm keeping it 100 with you...I can't believe everything you say till it's well sourced. But I do appreciate your efforts and prompting discussion around here. You don't sound bitter, so that's refreshing.

And what I mean by well sourced is for example, Orams been trashing the Lakers consistently all year. Maybe he has an agenda...maybe his sources have an agenda. But some of the s*** he reports, is only coming from him/his source. Like Nance really didn't have to go out of his way to call that story between him and Rob false. But Nance did, so now I'm looking at Oram's sources sideways. If Oram says his sources see Magic as an absentee Prez, then guess what, I'm not putting too much into that one either.

Like let's apply it to Luke as his coaching. If Magic is an absentee exec, he probably doesn't meddle and micromanage Luke. So if Luke is playing Jules less minutes or not immediately starting him, is that more on Magic or Luke? Jules/Mintz chose Nawlins, so again is "mistreatment" by Gentry when he started the year by bringing Jules off the bench and capped him at 28 mins per?

If Luke won't listen to the FO with their insistence on changing up his coaching bench, why would he concede to a Jules minutes restriction?

Not only that, Luke didn't hire a shooting coach at the request of his superiors. So you tell me who is mistreating who?

Lastly Nance was clearly better than Jules on the defensive end. Nance was our best defensive rated player in 2017/18 with a 20 min per minimum. If Luke was aiming to reward defensive effort, Nance unequivocally deserved and earned the starting gig.

If you were doing your job excellently, public opinion wouldn't be what it is now about the front office.

Maybe Magic was bringing him down, once he landed LeBron and got the Big Head and was off doing more important Magic things and I'm guessing tying up some things for Rob in waiting all the time. All I got. We're all witnesses now to how it plays out from here with Rob in charge. Am willing to wait and see. Kobe never suffered fools or losers or weak people.

He used to lurk on Clublakers believe it or not and probably got caught up on the negative side of the epic Bynum Will Never Be Special thread.

I really don’t get it. I can’t think of any good moves he’s made except trading for Bullock, but even that was to fix mistakes they made with offseason signings. Maybe I’ll get it after the draft and free agency, who knows. Anyway here’s Arash talking about this

Weez, my understanding is that if we wanted to preserve cap space for Kawhi or the rest of the Ks then the 1yr deals really handcuffed us.

Think about it, we gotta find shooters or smash ball defenders on 1yr deals. That's tough cause it narrows our net and existing contracts like that are still tough to trade for without giving up too many of your own assets.

That being said, we did make gross errors such as BLo and not getting at least a 2nd rounder to replenish our stash for Zu (we lost our current one in the Svi deal).

What happened is that Linda Rambis is now cosigning any decisions along with Jeanie. Jeanie was not hell bent on hiring a new President from the outside even though Joey and Jesse were pushing, and she's all about empowering the "Laker family." Linda is savvy and played on this sentiment, saying that we shouldn't let an outsider come in and ruin what we have. She insisted that Pelinka was capable of doing the job and that Kurt would be a great "senior mentor" type of person for Pelinka when it came to basketball specific things. Linda hit the right keys and Jeanie has basically made Kurt the de facto front end to upper management (basically Jeanie and Linda) for all basketball and even many business related decisions. If you want to get to Linda/Jeanie, you have to know go through Kurt for the most part.

Really unsettling stuff, in my opinion. In my years of business experience, I have never seen a corporation misuse the degree & value of the assets of the Lakers possess by prioritizing nepotism over operational excellence and solid execution.
