I was going to say, not even really joking, that our FO might not even know who Messina is. Like Rob dealt with players. Linda and Jeanie handle the business. Kurt is..well he’s dumb.

Apparently Jeanie and Pelinka prefer Vogel, they see him as the next best option. They also really like Kidd, because of Kurt.

Kurt was pushing for Jason Kidd to stall the Lue negotiations. He convinced Pelinka and Jeanie that he would be a very good player development coach, having seen the results of his Knicks tenure. That was what lead to the assistant coaching debacle.

Now that Lue is out (for now), Kurt has been pushing for Hollins. But Kidd is still in the forefront of their minds because of Kurt's strong words earlier.

I'm hearing Lue is still open to the job if the Lakers make right with him. But Jeanie and Pelinka would have to strongly overrule Kurt and Linda for that to happen.

Jason Kidd is by far the worst option - Vogel is better if I'm forced to choose between the two...goodness, man. What a s*** show.

Funnily enough, Magic was very high on Jason Kidd. He had a preference for tough gritty point guards. He never liked Lue. Saw him too much as a coach that relied on too much shooting and that would have a hard time taking down the Warriors. That combined with Rambis's tactics are why he's still a strong candidate right now.

My personal hope is Jeanie and Pelinka just go back to Lue with a real offer. Jesse has been begging her since Tuesday to wrap it up so that they can understand the coach's strategy and talk with him as he's prepping for the draft.

Yeah, the word was back in Feb (or around then) Magic wanted to fire Luke in mid-season and bring in Kidd, but Jeanie refused and wanted Luke to coach the rest of the season; I forget where I heard that from...LOL. But I heard it from somewhere!

Yeah, if Lue is amenable to opening up a line of communication again...if we didn't burn bridges. He's still the best option, IMO.

What I was told is that all Lue needs is a 4 year deal at 6 million a year or $25/5. It has less to do with money and more to do with respect given what less experienced coaches are commanding. And he wants less meddling with assistant coaches. Remember he was once an assistant coach who was being groomed to take over for a head coach. He knows that drill all too well. But this is his dream job and he's willing to be flexible, just not that flexible.

Pelinka is not a good negotiator. I've seen it so many times. As an agent he was able to get away with different tactics because of how valuable and rare star players are. But this is different. He thinks that Lue had no other options and he could hardball him. Lue was hoping at asking for $30/6 they could settle on $24/4 or $25/5, basically meet in the middle. Rob said no. Lue then explicitly asked for $24/4 or $25/5. Rob still said no, playing hardball. So Lue pulled out and leaked it all.

If the Lakers come back with their tail between their legs and admit to messing up, he will take the job in a heartbeat.

    Provided the details are accurate, those don't sound like bad terms at all;

I understand Lue wanting 5 years, though. Job security....however, I would have settled on 4. M

    Luke got 4 + 1 year non-guaranteed
    MDA 3 + 1 team option
    Brown 3 + 1 team option

Yea if I’m Lue I want 4 years at minimum too. Especially since he’s the only coach at the table with a title and the rest of the coaches are retread flame outs.

I understand the negotiation factor but it’s common sense. He’s a title winning coach, whether it was earned or not, he should not be lumped in with the others nor should his price be set that low either. That’s just dumb and he’s right to walk away.

    Bro, embrace the tin haha

Magic: Giannis is dope and going to bring Milwaukee a chip --> tampering
cLips: let's stalk Kawhi...let's construct a Cp3 trade ridiculously fast to help get him to Morey so that we don't lose him for nothing... Let's try to trade DJ to the Mavs to help their bottomline while we get some assets back so we don't also lose him for nothing --> crickets
Ainge: can talk reckless about how Boston liked Giannis alot but ended up passing on dude in the draft --> crickets

Lakers: Traded away DLo and allowed Jules to walk into unrestricted free agency a year early --> mistreatment and no loyalty
cLips: have Blake re-up and sell him on being the franchise player (clip4Life), only to trade him later that same year --> crickets

Lakers: blew George and Kawhi trade scenarios and allowed the AD trade to kill our kids --> Lakers done f***ed up again
cLips: the great Jerry West didn't trade for George who was hellbent on getting home and didn't trade for Kawhi when he was angling to get home as well --> chill
Boston: we'll include Tatum this summer, if you don't make the trade with LA --> yet, no f*** the kids narrative

Lakers: Bron/Magic and Luke be beefin --> disharmony and toxic environment
cLips: Rivers kid is beefin with Cp3, Blake/DJ be beefin with cp3, Tobias declines extension with cLips after he saw how they did Blake --> crickets & all that seems like distant memory now, but lob city couldn't get out the 2nd round with 3 allstars and a possibility a HOF coach
Boston: Ky and Stevens clearly werent on the same page --> not much was made of it

The media sensationalism is pretty goddamn obvious in term of team/market. What's wild is that the fans ate that s*** up instead of pointing to the obvious inconsistencies in coverage.

Are the Lakers innocent in all of this...nah! But has team coverage been fair and impartial...f*** nah!

Our franchise is a joke right now, much like my football team (Man Utd).

I’m prepared to give him time, but they should of gone all in on Pochettino.

A lot of the players need to be sold, we need a top director of football (a bit like LA needs a top PBO), it’s going to take a few years to get to City/Liverpool standard.

You don't sign a coach for any other reason than to think that he is the best at teaching and preaching basketball...

yes character management etc. come into play and the chemistry with ownership. I understand why the Lakers wouldn't want to offer more than 3 years...but then again, beggers can't be choosers...

if I had to have Lue for 5 years with Vogel as his lead, then I would prefer than to Kidd or Vogel obviously...

it gets worse and worse...its amazing.
