I like that he’s looking for top assistants, adding Vogel would be big.

Lue is definitely targeting heavy hitters for his staff. I like it and the front office could learn from his approach

    i mean, vogel's no mermuys.

but to be fair, quin snyder and steve clifford were both assistants here before doing well elsewhere, so it's not like we always suck at this. we just don't retain.

Quin is probably one of the best X's and O's guys in the business, IMO. Really screwed up there...

Either way, love the potential of hiring Vogel; I'm getting excited...LOL.

Some more perspectives on the Vogul news which if true would be huge for our defensive potential. Lue is more offense than defense and this would be a great fit.

Check out the twitter thread below for his former players take on the kind of coach he was:

I approve of Lue's targets. More talent on the bench, whether they're in suits or jerseys, the better. Vogel would be a very solid nab

Great to see Lue go after some top of the line assistants, such as someone who played a crucial role in that great Indiana team from earlier in the decade. A far cry from Luke, who settled for his unqualified frat bros from Arizona.

    ... right? That’s the narrative.

Sorry, don’t want to rain on the parade because I do think Vogel would be a great hire for Lue’s staff.

But I’ve been hearing this reaction a lot. That Luke’s undoing was his choice of assistants. I started taking that narrative as fact until I actually looked into it...

This last year, 2 out of the 6 assistants on Luke’s bench went to Arizona. Murmuys and Simon. Murmuys had good experience beforehand in Toronto and was considered a good hire at the time. Simon didn’t have much experience, yet interestingly he was the only member of the staff that we retained so he must be doing something right.

The rest of Luke’s staff had plenty of assistant coaching experience and no Arizona ties. Brian Shaw was the main assistant and he had a huge role in most of the success that we’re praising Vogel for. Last year, Luke had hired Buechler to his staff, an Arizona guy without much coaching experience. But Buechler ended up leaving for a role on Fizdale’s staff so clearly he’s a competent assistant.

I think my main point here is that I’ll standby my stance that Luke was never our main problem. He had flaws, but overall he was adequate if we filled out our roster correctly.

Which is actually a positive sign. I was never a huge fan of Lue. But after looking into it further, while he may not be elite, he seems at least slightly better than Luke in a lot of categories. So I’m fully on board with it. Sign Lue, let him try to fill out a good roster of assistants, and we’ll be as well equipped as we can realistically hope to be from a coaching standpoint.

Now give him some more talent and fitting skill sets to work with, and we’ll be in a good place.

Luke was and is still terrible with his sub patterns, wasnt good at making adjustments to what teams did well against ours...we'll see how Lue gets a long in those 2 aspect, talent laden team or not

doesn't fully inspire lue confidence. interesting that he likes svg so much. i've always been a fan, but thought maybe the game left him when he couldn't get things square in detroit. not that they had much talent.

I hear you. Although, just following the author for a long-time and his tweets; and while he is very incredibly detailed, he seems the type that can find anything wrong in everything, if that makes sense. LOL.

So, while it isn't Lue inspiring or a full out endorsement, I still think we're getting an upgrade.

    Just my 0.02 cents...
