williams is an excellent candidate, and we interviewed him. the suns have already offered, and he's waiting to see if we'll offer before he accepts. we seem to prefer lue, and that's fine. at least we conducted something resembling a search this time. i agree with stein that it's odd to be dragging feet at this point. it's clear both of our top candidates want to work here, so pick one already, linda.

I think if Lue was really the Lakers "top choice", he would have already been offered the job.
Williams is rumored to be holding out until the Playoffs are over when he knows the state of the Sixers.
I'm selfishly rooting for Philly to win this Series. Increases the odds that the Sixers don't look to make a Coaching change & offer Monty the job & also increases the odds of Kawhi leaving TOR.

I'm not as high on Monty as others....he's meh and I'm not really understanding why there's so much sudden interest in him

If Suns get Monty, cool. I'm not gonna lose any sleep over it.

Personally, I prefer Lue and Howard to Monty.

@IGotSources aka MR. UNTOUCHABLE said on 2 separate podcasts recently, after reactivating his own account that “um..the Lakers first choice..is like..um..Monty Williams, but um..they’re waiting for um..the Philly to be like um.. eliminated from the playoffs and stuff to like um..then they’ll um..announce it. Howard is um..our second choice, and um..Ty Lue is like..um totally out of the running and stuff”. Also Kawhi is a lock because he wants to be in LA for his brand to blow up and New Balance is really pushing for it too, but they haven’t decided if it will be a straight up signing or a sign and trade to give us more cap space. So it’s cool guys, we’re gonna be ok. He wouldn’t however go into his tweet about Pelinka hitting on EJ or whatever it was.

(All jokes aside I genuinely hope he do got sources, because I want Kawhi in a Lakers uniform badly.)

Double edged sword there of course. If he doesn't want to play with LeBron and chooses the Clips we're really kind of screwed with West building that roster and another star slot to spend and fill. And "Lee" of course soon going to be unleashed to do something ......

this has been stated before, but monty doesn't strike me as a guy who would be hanging around to usurp his current boss. i think he's waiting on a laker offer and will take the suns' offer if nothing comes. the lakers haven't told him he's out of the running cuz organizational confusion and/or linda's got a brunch to plan.

Yeah I'm starting to call him out on this...I'm gonna start going at him on Twitter. He came out with a tweet saying that PHX is willing to give Monty more "Front Office Input" to pry him away from the Lakers...and that's the reason why Monty might take PHX over LAL. I call BS on that...either we're really really stupid for not considering Monty's "input" on our roster OR this guy is full of crap because Lakers SHOULD be relying on Monty's "input" as he has the most experience in the front office out of anybody that is currently IN our front office!!! (He worked with both OKC and SAS front offices)

It jus seems convenient to post that tweet now as PHX annd Monty rumors heat up....JUST in case he's wrong...then he can play that whole "he had a change of heart" card....well guess what? THEN MONTY TO LA WASNT A DONE DEAL YOU IDIOT.

In any case, I don't actually want Monty. I prefer Lue.

If PHX takes Monty, good riddance. It's not a loss for us by any means.

At the end of the day, the coach doesn't matter if our front office still sucks and can't put together a competent roster that fits and can't develop our players the right way and kan't keep ANYBODY healthy!

    So it's Lue...

But the narrative is going to be that he chose the Suns over our s*** show.

Anybody from Lakers brass...just come out and do some PR. You're allowing the media to drive their anti-Laker narrative.

Good for Monty. We'll probably be making an announcement on Lue soon; and as much as I wanted Monty, Lue is the correct choice presently.

    i'm completely fine with lue

since lebron is here to stay might as well bring in someone who knows how to coach him and has had success doing it

We’re screwed either way when it comes to media perception of our next move.

If we hire Lue immediately, it comes across as reactionary. Like we had to settle for Lue once Phoenix took Williams off the board. Media will act as if Monty didn’t want us.

So I was thinking we should wait another week or so, maybe interview another candidate or two. Seems less reactionary. But then it will come across as if we were never completely sold on Lue.

So maybe best bet is to hire Lue now, and then have our media people push a story about how Lue has always been the lead candidate, and Monty only chose the Suns because he knew we weren’t going to go with him.
