I think the Clippers will do fine in the off-season but I’ll believe Kawhi wants to be there when he walks out at the press conference.

Biff makes 34,36, 39mill, next 3 yrs, currently injured during a playoff run (shocker).....most execs/fans are now seeing the big picture of that trade

Team told him he was the face of the franchise and then shipped him out. Players will remember that.

When did we label him the face of the franchise?

The clippers, to their credit, are nice to the media. It gets them good press. I’ve read some variation of these articles about the Clippers for years.

I’ll believe it when I see it. Period.

well, the lakers have definitely put their money where their mouth is on this particular gambit. ainge would have lowballed kobe and let him walk after the achilles tear. we re-upped him at well above market value. we wouldn't have done IT like ainge did, either.

i also agree that pau wasn't a face of the franchise, nor did he do everything that would warrant such treatment (stay in shape, brah).

but we'll see. i always come back to anti-christ houston in these considerations. imo, morey treats players like chattel, and yet he seems to be in good with former players all the time (goran dragic excepted--and that was a biggie, actually). if players cared about these things, nobody would want to go to houston unless their name rhymed with lames narden. yet they always have folks itchin' to get in there.

the kawhi situation is an interesting referendum on our long-term strategy. yes, there are lots of factors, but if he chooses the clips in particular, it's time to re-evaluate our general philosophy regarding player relations. maybe they want to be treated like mercenaries. kd seems like that.

    That’s definitely valid with Houston.

And we will definitely see soon enough with the Clippers. Again, I don’t think they’ll come up empty handed. But the current media love just feels the same as always to me.

Definitely agree that this summer will tell us a lot though about the current direction we’re on and about whether or not the players have soured on LeBron.

The Clippers are dangerous. After getting rid of Sterling, they have much better management, an owner with deep pockets, have rid themselves of Doc Rivers from the FO, and now are in a position to creep in on LA's ability to attract star talent.

Right now, they're doing well kind of like Boston last season. No pressure, no expectations, and not really having a "star" player (although Williams is playing damn well) makes you tough to defend, in all honesty. I doubt if we kept things the same, next year would go similarly.

The danger though, is in free agency recruiting. If they start to attract more of the free agents, become a better trade destination, and so on, we're in trouble. This decade, the Clippers have vastly outperformed us, and are in a position to continue doing so next season.

That being said, all it takes is for a few things to go our way, and suddenly, everyone will forget about them, and they'll go back to being the irrelevant team they should be.

We didn’t just sign them and claim they’d be the face of our franchise. We tried to hit a home run to keep us in championship contention. The Clippers decided to hit reset.

Completely different situations, and the Blake one is obviously much more recent and likely to be in the minds of prospective free agents.

The last part is the key. It's why I've been so hard on everything the last few years. A couple of breaks here and there and we're back firmly in the drivers seat.

The rest of the league is well aware of that. It's why they're all so nervous while also taking shots at us every chance they get.

That said, I also believe that you make your own luck. We could easily be putting ourselves in a better situation by beefing up our staff on every level. And that could still happen, but the early signs with Rob leave me with a lot of doubt on that front.

Yeah. Momo is basically Ding at this point.

Though I do get the strategy here. I imagine the hammer would could down really hard if it were proven we were already working with someone.

Don’t understand why we wouldn’t just ask for permission though.

We just make everything more difficult than it has to be.

We all know that Rob is meeting with Lue for the 1st time today in LA.

He already met with Monty and is expecting to have a 2nd meeting with him soon. I'm guessing the 2nd meeting will be with our new Prez.

I don't know how the Anthony Davis / Williams connection slipped my mind.

Just can't get excited about Ty Lue at all.
If we're able to snag Monty Williams, sign a legit All Star FA & find a solid replacement for Magic.. I'll consider that a successful Summer.

I guess the more accurate description would be that this is what it will take to wash the stench of from this Season so we can move on.
