since Big Baller Brand has essentially closed down, I have a feeling LaVar Ball has a bunch of free time now.

He also did say on multiple occasions that if he was the coach of the Lakers, we would be much better because he knows how to use Lonzo properly.

 

Block Sac's Monty pursuit with Luke. I like the strategy.

First thing's first: We shouldn't hire a coach until we have a President.

Here's something I posted in another thread, for those of you who might be nervous about Lue. While I can't say he's amazing at handling pressure, dude is a solid Xs and Os coach.

The Cavs elbow series, featuring LeBron at the high post, was deadly and was something we should have abused this season. Here's two plays from it I clipped for you guys...

This is a play the Cavs ran many times season, called a high post split. You start with James catching the ball at the elbow, and the guard who makes the pass screens for the player in the corner. The guard screening needs to be able to shoot somewhat ok, but that could have been anyone. The other two players are spaced too far apart to where the help can't come off the cut even if they sagged, and you can actually see JR Smith's defender doing that. Imagine Ingram in place of Kevin Love here - it could be EVEN better.



Here's another play the Cavs ran, called a single side tag. This one is complicated, but basically, you can see that the guard passes to James, sets a screen for the other guard who clears out. Then Nance (a non-shooter) comes up to set the PnR for James on the strong side. This leaves only one defender to help off the weakside, meaning either a lob for Nance, open layup for James, or a wide open 3 for the weakside. Thus the name, single side tag. Instead of Clarkson shooting the open shot, what if this was Bullock?



As a bonus, note the above play is a smooth second option of the same play I posted first (high post split). To those of you who were saying LeBron doesn't want to or is incapable of running second options after the initial play blows up -- there is your proof. Note that two of the folks involved here also running the second option are Clarkson and Nance - both of whom struggled to do this under Walton just months prior.

Don't have film on Williams playbook to pull right away. But he's solid too. I can do some digging there if needed.

Pretty much; but IMO, Lue and William's are upgrades over Luke.

Pelinka is still here, but at the very least, we got rid of 1 problem.

 

Nash would be a very valuable consultant. He is (or was) one for the Warriors, and they spoke incredibly highly of him. I'm pissed at Nash as much as the next guy for how his LA tenure went, but without the Phoenix training staff, I'm surprised he could even walk at 39 years old.

 

I'll elaborate on Monty; his record isn't great, but IMO, he has had spend and had an official position with the Spurs (Vice President of Basketball Operations for the Spurs) and as an Assistant under Brett Brown currently. Also, an assistant under Coach K for the US Team.

I believe his time spent with other organizations and coaches will prove to be very useful. I think he'll have grown and been exposed to how other organizations work, and he'll have been exposed to some very good coaches who know X's and O's.

More importantly, he is a very good person. This organization needs these type of quality guys around, IMO.

 

It's better we get a coach with experience than someone who's new, especially with James on this team. We don't want another David Blatt.
