I hope he's right. But that cap space is worthless if it isn't used to grab one of the K's. If we fire Pelinka and get an established guy like Meyers or Griffin, and then we sign Kawhi, no one will remember how we got there. We'll have Lebron, Kawhi and young talent.

so critical that rob is gone, too. new leadership will signal to folks around the league that whatever sordid stuff that happened in this regime (mostly, the back channel power plays) is gone.

i don't know if it will help recruit FAs, but it might help us not have to pay a trade tax all the time.

and i agree that if a big-name FA comes, this stuff will be an odd, distant memory.

We need to get rid of Rob. He is hated around the league. We need a clean slate with a respected guy building his own basketball operations department. It is the only way we can even hope to get a free agent. We need to distance ourselves from everything about this regime.

the question is how tied to magic/rob was/is lebron?

my theory is actually not at all. lebron would have come here if kupchak was still running things. he doesn't care. he plans on controlling stuff regardless.

if i'm wrong, things could get awkward in that lebron came here thinking he would be working with magic and rob for 4 years. but again, i've always doubted that angle.

Why Griffin would be a good choice. LeBron likes and will feel comfort level with him and he's respected and competent.

I'm of the same opinion. I'm not sure if Mitch/Jim still running things would have netted us Lebron. But I don't think Maginka was a driving force whatsoever.

The other complication (again caused by nepotism) is if Jeanie wants to fire Rob, does that alienate Kobe from the franchise? She certainly doesn't want to do that either.

Perfect time to call Kyrie and Durant and ask them what it would take, hire new FO, trade LbJ for whatever compliments Kyrie and KD and compete.

It’s also Star Wars Celebration in Chicago this weekend. We’re gonna get an episode 9 trailer and so much news on shows and stuff.

Just to add to GoT and Star Wars Celebration, we are now a mere two weeks away from Avengers: End Game.

We’re giving the Game of Zones guys plenty of material. They can do a spin off season just for Lakers and it’ll be great to laugh through tears.

So...does that mean you're going to watch romantic comedies for a while then refrain from movies altogether?
