Since the Magic announcement, I've been listening to/half watching all the national sports shows. Everyone's favorite Ric Bucher has been making the rounds. Mr credibility himself, but he is claiming that our target is Kawhi and that Jeanie is pretty convinced that she can keep him from Balmer and the Clips. Not taking that as a real rumor, still...thought I'd share.

 

Ric Bucher is a Kobe stooge. Kobe's other stooge is Rob Pelinka. I doubt this is coming from Jeanie at all.

 

One theory he had was that he and Kobe convinced her that Rob could net Kawhi this summer. He'll get to keep his job if he can pull that off and his newly acquired power increase. Otherwise, she'll start looking for other options. Sing for your lunch kind of position at the moment.

 

That's a terrible idea if true. By the time she knows whether Rob can pull it off, all of the potential FO hires like David Griffin will already be signed by other teams.

Other teams are going to hire their FO staff well before the draft. Rob knows this. That's why he's trying to stall. Jeanie needs to reach out to Adam Silver or someone else for a 2nd opinion on Rob's proposal. They'll probably tell her not to buy it.

 

Since he has more job security now, time for Bron to pick up the phone. Our pick + Zo for their pick. Then we can get back into the AD business.

 

Well, she better get him otherwise it's another year of waiting and more ridicule. If she gets him, the trade for AD for the younglings is a go 100% for the summer and the Lakers would have to make that trade work for any chance of the Lakers winning a title next year. You get Lebron, Kawhi and AD in two summers, Magic's stay, Jeanie's ownership and Pelinka's GMing is solidified and justified. Lakers are on the clock....

One guy I'm not seeing mentioned as much - but I think we should absolutely go after Danny Green.

 

I'd give him the full MLE if Kawahi comes or as a selling pt to Kawahi....he's supposedly really close to KL.

 

Also best 3 PT% in the NBA this year, and plays good defense.

 

What kind of salary will Danny Green command?

Here's the route I might go for this FA.

1) Recruit Leonard with everything we have.

2) Offer the farm for AD. Try to keep Ball if possible (fingers crossed for a top 5 pick)

3) Sign Danny Green for MLE. Have Pelinka set him up with 20 million worth of endorsements in LA, something he's never sniffed in Toronto or San Antonio.

4) Fill out roster with minimum contracts

5) Spend any remaining cash on hiring Lonzo Ball 10 shooting coaches, so he can get his 3 PT% up to 33%.

Lineup:

PG: Ball
SG: Green
SF: Leonard
PF: James
C: Davis

Honestly, you're looking at a better version of the 76'ers - without the Ben Simmons spacing problem. At least Ball is willing to shoot outside 15 feet.

Our worst defender would probably be James.

I don't care if our GM is Pob Relinka or Rob Pelinka. We will get to the WCF with that type of defense. Put KCP or whatever Klutch person on a min contract to fill out the bench.
