Yes, she wants to do this on her own. The problem is "her own" isn't good enough. Some people just have a lower ceiling in their capabilities. Jeanie seems to be nice and all but she stands out more with plastic surgeries than with knowledge and intelligence.
Wasn’t there an article out when Rob was hired saying how pissed off the other GMs were about how he got hired? There wasn’t a vetting process or multiple interviews when a lot of people would have been interested in the job.
GM's hate Rob Pelinka because he was an agent for 20 years. Pelinka has one of the best poker faces in the game too. Was surprised so many people in the business didnt like him. He must play the priest role well in front of the camera and play the mean nun at the negotiation table behind closed doors.
that was my criticism of jeannie n jimbo.. quick triggers on hiring with so little candidates involved
Someone really has it in for our FO...or there ain't no Lakers news in spring (since no playoffs), so it's time to get some Laker buzz in while we can aka #clickbait Meanwhile they sent Nance home...where he got an extension.
Or maybe our FO has been shady and at times incompetent, or at the very least not on the same page with eachother? Doesn’t sound like Magic and Rob are very close for one thing. I’m just glad Larry didn’t buy that house, nice of him to play it off and say how happy he is in Cleveland (that’s not easy to sell to anyone) though, I’m sure the money helps.
I was wondering the same thing. Unless you are implying the cap space gained from the move is what got us Lebron, and that move was done with 100% certainty he was coming here, Larry was lied to by Pelinka. IT ain't top three. IT ain't top thirty. So essentially we either lied to Larry, or we were tampering like crazy?
We have to remember it's easy clicks and $$ (for a service that actually sells articles as a subscription) when they bash management when LeBron is involved. Most of that article was fluff. I'd incline to believe when sources were involved, a particular side was chosen for the purposes of creating a narrative -- i.e. I doubt Pelinka actually told Nance go buy a house, without some caveat involved. But ask Nance or some Cleveland exec now, and they'd be happy to make it seem that way.
Or someone's out to get Rob and paint our FO a certain way...before free agency starts. With AD, we saw just how far media likes to bend the anti-Laker narrative. Nance is a class act. We know he has no problem saying what he wants and won't run from it (see Kobe comments). Based off his actions alone, nothing indicates he has any ill will or resentment towards Rob and our organization. Actually it's the opposite. Dude seems to dislike how media tries to create a villian. When sources come out with an obvious tilt and blatantly contradicts the source material... Click.
I think both can be true. People are out to get Rob and us, no teams want us to be relevant again (though they happily share in the revenue the Lakers bring in), but it’s also possible that Magic is incompetent and Rob is in over his head. Both of these things being true would add up to make sense as to why we had such a horrible free agency once LeBron was signed and a terrible season after that. If you’re really good at your job you can overcome people having it out for you, if you aren’t, you mess up and people pile on.
Frankly, no organization is immune from the media hit pieces. Even the Spurs, the hallmark of a "classy" organization, had so much negative media attention on them that Leonard got fed up. Now put us in LA, with James, and we're probably a big target for the press when there's anything negative going on. Magic and Rob are a mixed bag thusfar. But they asked for 2 summers, so I'm inclined to give that to them before demanding for a new FO.
its not hard to paint an uglier picture when the picture has lots of ugly things about it from the start.....and just cause Larry doesn't hold any ill will towards the trade, does that refute the rob conversation part about not trading him unless its for a top 3 player?
I’m inclined to give Magic the 2 summers, because Magic+LeBron is a good pitch meeting, but I wouldn’t be sad to see Rob replaced immediately. I’m not sure he’s made a good deal that wasn’t a cap space creating or saving deal. Deals that actually improve us as a team I mean, adding players, trading the right young players away for value. Magic went to LeBron’s house, Magic landed LeBron, I’m not really sure what Rob even does and if it’s things like trade for Muscala then he can go.
What I'm saying is, we're probably only hearing one (biased) side of the story. And of course, you know which side the Athletic is going to pick and go after for this particular piece. I don't even think Larry Nance himself believes his value is enough to where we keep him unless a top 3 player is involved. You could probably put Larry Nance in the GM position, and he would trade himself and anyone on that roster at the time for players ranked 4-10, at least.
Yeah. Just par for the course. We’re not in the playoffs but Lakers still drive traffic so here comes the smear campaign right on cue.
Also, are really pretending like GMs don’t tell guys what they want hear? Blake Griffin and Demar Derozan immediately come to mind.
He was also the one who got Kobe that 2 year 48 million dollar deal. It literally destroyed any chances of us putting together a competitive team and helping us rebuild. What happened to Ryan West by the way? Maybe Jerry would be tempted to guide Ryan if he became the GM of the Lakers.
