I fully expect this to happen, especially now that Ingram has an issue that will make him unmovable. I think he'll be fine since everything I've been reading says this isn't near as serious as Chris Bosh's clot. But the Pelicans aren't going to want to take him back as the centerpiece of a deal involving AD. At this point, the only thing that will allow us to not roll over the cap space is if we luck into the top 3 in the draft, thereby acquiring a new asset to be the centerpiece of an AD trade.

we'd still have salary issues to deal with then. unless we're just dumping ingram--which would be ABSOLUTELY in character. our focus needs to be on maximizing the use of our space this summer, regardless of davis, imo. as i outlined elsewhere, i'm pretty sure we can sign someone to the sub-10 year max (32ish) and still be able to create room (via dumping all youth for future picks and into space) to sign davis should he be a) available and b) still interested in joining the lakers.

we could also spend that 32 million on two or three good rotation players on long-term deals if we so chose. again, i'd rather have the talent and the flexibility to create a max spot if needed than just open one up well in advance.

if anthony davis wants to be here in 2020, teams will take lonzo, ingram, and probably some extra salary into cap space, no questions asked.

I mean, several of us were concerned about the new plan being the old plan. Magic valued preserving cap room over all else and put himself on a deadline. Now he's in a situation where he has to deliver something big over the summer.

Part of me wanted to believe he had something in his back pocket. But the AD trade situation has caused me to doubt that.

I have no idea at this point what we will do this summer, but this season was an embarrassing on every level. The sting of this has to be being felt throughout the organization. Magic likes to win, so I can only hope he's learned from the mistakes made last year and will do things different moving forward.

Keep to that deadline he set, no IF, ANDS, or BUTS.....you talk a big game, made promises, made bunch of blunders during this season.....I'm not accepting any excuses this off season and if Jeannie lets off the hook on that 2 summer deadline Magic set for himself then I fully expect more of the same garbage next yr.

    I swear....

First: This is exactly what he said...

If no one comes over the next 2 summers, he'll step down. But someone did come in the 1st summer...

Second: no Lou trade then no 28th pick for Hart or Kuz (however way you want to look at it with the DLo for 27th pick trade)...then Lou helping us win needless games and no tanking for the 2nd overall pick (Zo), then Philly potentially steals our pick if it drops outside top 3. As much as some want to discuss Zo was the wrong pick...what if we didn't even get the pick? That's one less asset.

Third: keeping Jules last summer on a QO means he has a no-trade clause and him and Mintz can nix any potential AD trade this year

Fourth: Jules started 49 out of 82 games @26.7mins per last year. This year he's @30mins per with the opportunity to start more games even if he was temporarily shutdown during the trade deadline. BLo was @23mins per last year and @28mins per this year. So how badly did the coaching staff (the same one's responsible for having those dudes play those minutes), plead with the FO to have them fellas back?

Fifth: Who is this post specifically addressing? Do you think it's fair Rob/Magic had to step into a loser with MozDeng on the books and have such a short timeline to not only clean the mess, but have folks deem their short tenure already as unsuccessful and grounds of dismissal? Were expectations heading into this year that Bron would make his 9th straight Finals appearance with this roster? Do you think injuries above all else railroaded a season where the current roster likely makes the playoffs? The way that you defend dude around here, are you Magic Johnson?

    For all those rhetorical questions...

I'm with you all as well. For me, it's still an incomplete for the new FO. They delivered Lebron and that was huge. They also stuck to their guns in creating enough cap space for KD max signing. They also went after AD in trade when it opened up as a possibility. I'm still in favor of both of those moves ultimately.

To me it's a bummer that Randle was sacrificed in the whole thing as he was a font of energy, a superb motor guy and a heck of a switching defense Big. I enjoyed his physicality and his sheer force. I have to be honest, even though I thought we might try to retain Slowpez at a bargain price, he drove me nuts last season, and if you all are truthful and remember your posts, I'm not alone in that assessment. We can't really rewrite history and say he was such a great fit and we all wanted to keep him after the fact. Same goes for Randle. There were a handful of us fans here but not many. So it's not much use crying over spilled milk on those fronts.

The mistake that the FO made was bringing in knuckle headed vets on one year deals such as Lance and Beasley. I still think Rondo was a good pickup - things just went sour and those back to back hand injuries and surgeries were not foreseeable. For a while there he was an excellent mentor to Lonzo and the young guys. We all felt so at the time and many were clamoring to make him a player/coach. McGee was a pleasant surprise to say the least. At $2 million for the year he well surpassed expectations and his contract price. I'd like to see him here again next year if he's still relatively inexpensive. Beas' outburst against Luke most likely played a hand in our losing Zu to move him. Still I don't harbor any big grudge against Beas especially given that he lost his mom at her young age. He probably had a lot of emotions inside that spilled out in frustration. Plus we were looking like a sinking ship unfortunately.

Well, here's to the summer. I hope Magic and Rob deliver the goods.

    Wow....
Magic has this summer to hit a grand slam for me. Anything short of another star is a failure. I'll be the first to hand out the pitchforks.

These two are a big reason how the Clips are currently 6th in the West even after trading away their best player in Tobias Harris. You could probably argue that we gifted them the 6th spot with that Zubac trade.

Magic gave that same veto crap deal to KCP and 1 MAX guy wasn't his promise, he sacrificed multiple players for 2 max guys and that was his promise....giving us older James who's pretty much crapped all over this team youth isn't much of a "delivery"...if all he needed was to deliver 1 max, he couldve wrapped it up after dlo/mozgov trade and not make comments like the one he made about signing a 2nd max and we'd be "back, back" :Magicwow4:

If I were Jeanie and actually did the "normal" way of hiring employees/execs (you know interview multiple candidates to gauge who best fits your needs/wants) I would've eliminated ANY candidate that came at me with the "STARS, HOMERUN" plan right on the spot, even if said candidate was multiple execs of the year winners.

If he can grab me Kemba (assuming our top FA targets decide to go elsewhere) and get a top 12 pick this summer, add some other decent pieces, and I'm good.
