" 'Umm hey Jeanie, I was thinking about firing Luke....' Yeah that'll work." "Maybe I should have signed shooters." "What story from the bible can I use when I fire/trade everyone."
He’s not wrong. And if we don’t get a Kawhi, Durant, Kemba, etc in free agency, this punting plan needs to end. The Warriors aren’t going to get to the Finals every single year, eventually if you put together a competent roster you will be able to challenge for a Finals appearance. We can’t miss this summer and then say oh well, punt again for 2020 for Davis, that is a waste of LeBron’s final years and idiotic. I don’t think we ever had a real chance to trade for Paul George, or for Kawhi, but if we did, we look dumb for not doing it now. If that type of opportunity comes around again you do it.
We had a legit chance at Kawhi, it just would have cost us Ingram, Kuz and maybe Hart with a couple picks as well. Pop wanted a Godfather deal. And at this point, I think it's obvious we should have done it.
I think Paul George could have been had for Ingram, Randle, Clarkson if Magic wasn’t so cocky about him coming here anyways and making Ingram untouchable. Hindsight is 20/20 of course but man a PG or Kawhi would be great right now.
somehow in some way, we are going to find out this is really Lebron's fault If you want all the credit, need to take all the blame. Sure it's not fair, but neither is life.
I posted it before and there was a recent tweet that said LA had a chance to trade for PG still with OKC but again they still kept all the youth on their untouchable list.
i think in india, "untouchables" means something else entirely. maybe there's been some confusion in the trade talks?
Was it Magic that ratted on himself with tampering charges or was it Mintz trying to rat on his own client? We know it was Indy that requested the probe. So they had it in for us and Mintz/Paula. DLo and Jules are Mintz clients and it's highly unlikely Pritchard deals with Mintz again after the gut punch of Paula's trade demand. That makes the #2 pick (Zo) and BI as the only assets as our aces in the hole. Plus Pritchard turned down JC/Jules/27/28...so he was looking to take us the shed for a guy supposedly "hellbent" on coming back home. I sincerely believe the Spurs and Indy were not going to make it easy on us....even if we got our guy, it would have been us vastly overpaying to get a guy that we possibly could add later without giving up any assets. Per Woj, Ramona, Windy's June 27th report: We weren't in any rush to sign our 2018 draftees. We were looking to add salary in a dump for a future 1st round pick (ie after the fact, we ended up using our cap space on Kcp, Rondo, Lance = 25m)... There's smoke to us making an aggressive offer for Kawhi... They didn't want Zo and they ended up trading him to an Eastern Conference team out the country. Kawhi was impossible to trade for. Paula on the other hand might have been had, but Pritchard didn't want to do Mintz/Paula any favors, didn't even mention the Lakers by name in a presser after the trade demand and was obviously the one that called a tampering probe on us. We'd overpay in a trade for Paula...and when it came time for free agency the chick and her agent ducked us.
I'm sorry but I woulda been OK with a vast overpay for PG13 especially right now. The guy is easily a top 10 player this year...and having him AND LeBron would have made us 1st in the west easily (and with leBron getting injured...likely we would slip from 1st to 3rd or 4th at worst...). We overrated our players, plain and simple. Ingram didn't make the 3rd year jump like we all thought and our time to sell him high was last summer after he had a breakout year in his 2nd year. With Kawhi, I understand that we probably couldn't get him as Spurs would not trade him to us. Indy, I believe there was a deal that coulda been had...I think that deal would have been Ingram + 2nd pick. I do that deal 100x over now...and it'll bite us in the a** for not doing it for years to come. When superstars are available, you go all in. Don't wait
i blame maginka more for drafting Zo than not having traded for pg/leonard....the fact that almost every teams dont see zo as a positive asset even after a respectable rookie yr is shameful n now his ugly a** shot n ft makes things even worse for his value
If we were still in 4th place, Maginka is genius!!! But since we suck, we need to burn them at the stake.
it was a terrible misstep in hindsight and was a terrible waste of a 2nd overall pick currently or maybe ever considering the available talent that followed after.
I don't blame Lakers for picking Ingram...not many guys after him have turned out very good (except Siakam who was like 27th overall). BUT i do blame us for picking Zo over a few guys last year...notably Tatum and Fox... I don't get what we saw in Zo that we didn't see in FOX...Fox is looking like a future superstar and Zo is looking like he'll at best be andre miller...
He's 20 or 21 right? Man it stinks having so many young guys at once. You just can't cover over the rough patches with multiple players still learning the game after short circuiting the college process. Their bodies, brains, and their games are just not mature. Nice to have Lebron take the limelight off of them, but right now that light is pretty glaring without vets to take over.
In others words , we won't become the real Lakers again until the best and most competent people available are hired by the organisation ... not just ex Lakers related It's that simple .
