That's a smart move, yet another from our "terrible" front office. Brown had worked hard and proven he deserves a longer shot at least. If he works out, great, a bench guard to develop, if not, no harm done, he gets waived. Guys like like he and Tarik Black are hungry to prove they belong in the league while still playing within themselves though, and those are the kind of players you want filling out your roster.

Great decision. He's shown progress that's worthy of rewarding with a contract. And we get a rotation player for pennies on the dollar. Keeping him instead of waiting to bring him back in this summer shows the organization believes in him, giving him some breathing room. Also, he'll have some extra reps with at least a few of his teammates next year. Most importantly Scott and Mitch can tell him what they want him to work on over the summer.

He's another solid decision; I doubted him a bit given his attitude, but maybe he worked it out in the DL. Happy to have him.

    • College: Missouri

    Prospect Analysis
    Strengths

    • Excellent 3-point shooter
    • NBA body
    • Attacks the basket
    • Shoots a ton of free throws
    • Has pull-up jumper in arsenal

    Weaknesses

    • Doesn’t have prototypical NBA 2-guard size
    • Can he guard guards with length?

NBA projection: Draft analysts are projecting Brown as a mid-second round pick. He’s got at least one skill that could land him on an NBA roster -- the ability to make 3-pointers with consistency.

    2013-14 Season

Brown earned first-team All-SEC honors after leading the league in scoring. He turned up all over SEC statistics, in fact, finishing fourth in field-goal percentage, eighth in free-throw percentage, third in 3-point percentage, seventh in 3-pointers per game (2.3) and first in minutes played.

    Key statistics: 19.9 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 1.9 apg, 0.6 spg, 2.3 tpg, 37.0 mpg, .467 FG, .410 3PT, .797 FT

Cool statistic: Brown was the first Missouri player since Derrick Chievous (1987-88) to rack up five consecutive games of 24 or more points in conference play. He scored 20 or more 12 times in SEC games.

    Reminds me of: Courtney Lee

    What Insiders Say

    Former Missouri coach Frank Haith

"If you would have told me, and this is about the maturation of his game, that Jabari had 30 points [in an NIT win over Davison], I would have said he made five or six 3-pointers; but he only made one 3-pointer. That tells you a little bit about him not settling and his ability to finish through contact, his ability to get to the free throw line.”

    What Outsiders Say

    Arkansas coach Mike Anderson

"We didn't have an answer for him. I mean look at the stats they tell it all. His free throws [14 of 15], now that's unheard of and to his credit he made them."

David Aldridge's Big Board 2014: Shooting Guards | Rank: No. 10
TNT Analyst David Aldridge breaks down the top prospects at each position

Missouri's Jabari Brown has decent size for a two guard, and he's very strong, but he will give him a chance to show he can get his shot off against grown men as easily as he did in college.

A first team all-SEC selection, Brown led the conference in scoring and was the Tigers' most prolific scorer since Anthony Peeler in the early 1990s. Brown showed he could score out of pro-style sets at Missouri, coming off of screens and producing on the move. More >>

A jewel of a pick up. With an off season working on the things needed to better fit in Scott's system he could be a solid role player. He's got the swagger to make it in the NBA, fearless

Nice little write-up on Jabari. I like him, but I think Wayne is just a little better NBA-er than Brown is. I think Brown might be a better overall player maybe, but Wayne even at 27-28 plays the game like a seasoned veteran. There's a lot to be said for that.

Still, Jabari is under contract as long as we want him next season. At the very least he provides solid young depth.

Nice. He and Jordan together on the Lakers after being running mates in college is a great feel good story. I was unaware, damn, that his dad was fighting cancer too at the same time as Jordan's. No kidding these guys have a special bond.

I really like some of the value we have added, guys like Black and Brown. With Randle coming back and our number 2 pick (Okafor hopefully), these guys are going to be nice to have in our rotation.
