LABron James Discussion: The Final Year?

Seems like you are really just digging for something to complain about. Lebron is about as flawless of a basketball player as there has ever been. Who comes close?

If we applied the same effort and standards to other players, I fear nobody would stand up to the scrutiny. Laker fans can be very unreasonable sometimes. We all just want to win, but if you focus on just the negative, you are missing out on history before our very eyes.

 

He’s averaging like 27/8/9

It’s hard to ignore his greatness even when losing.

If you say he should be doing more, I don’t think it’s reasonable to expect a player in his 16th season to average more than a triple double to help dragging along the development of young players with him to get victories.

Holy crap did not realize when you walked in that LeBron was the king literally of your basketball universe. The guy has size on Jordan and Kobe. He does not have the all around as finely honed skills and all around game or the cold blooded killer mindset of either one of those guys. In their primes vs his prime are you really serious about that question?

 

I can agree that a few of these loses should be pointed at James but to say he should shoulder ALL the blame for the current loses and future ones is a little ridiculous.....our young guys aren't getting it done themselves, these are the ones we made untouchable for the likes of Leonard, Butler, etc.

 

That is the problem, forget the numbers and start winning some games. I couldn’t care less if you’re averaging 28/8/8, I’d rather you average 15 points if it gets us victories.

The “best player in the world” and the “goat” should be able to close out these games. I’m tired of hearing “but he got his numbers though”. That’s trash, what good are numbers when you can’t win games for your team. You are a superstar, superstars close the deal, close the deal.

 

Numbers matter. It’s why Draymond Green will never be considered as elite as other players.

 

Last year there were a lot of close games that we should have won against real competition, but we just couldn’t close the deal because we didn’t have someone to close the games for us.

Enter in said superstar. Lebron’s only real expectation at least imo anyway, was to close the close games for us. Our young guys are/were talented enough to compete and keep the games close. I’m not asking him to be Kobe, because he’s not, but as a 3x champ/3x finals mvp, he knows how to close games, but for some reason he has not done it. I don’t think that’s unfair expectations for someone who is considered by many to be the goat.

So yes, he gets the blame for all of our losses... losses that were all close and all winnable in the final minutes.

If he wouldn’t go so hard during the game to get his numbers, than maybe he’d have the energy to close out the games or play defense when it really matters.

 

Numbers mean nothing in wins and losses. Lebron got his numbers in the Finals but the Cavs got swept, oh but he got his numbers though...

 

Anon have you always been a Lakers fan or did you just follow LeBron from Cleveland to Miami, back to Cleveland and now to the Lakers? Be truthful.

 

I’m a fan of great basketball and great players. Even when the Lake Show sucks I keep tabs on them. This should not be a suck year with Lebron in the team. The other guys have got to step it up a bit.

Unlike others, I don’t expect Lebron to be the closer every game. He’s better than in years past, but his forte was never one on one. Making the right play 95% of the time is what has made him so great.

 

And your opinion is that Jordan and Kobe don't come close to being as flawless a basketball player as LeBron James? I mean you actually said who even comes close? So I'm just going to assume you're an LBJ fan first and foremost and here by circumstance. And keep that in mind as I read your posts going forward. Just wanted to be clear with all this unmitigated worship for the guy coming to the surface now. Thanks.

Sounds like you don’t like the guy and he’s your scapegoat for all things that go wrong this year. I don’t understand that, but whatever floats your boat.

But yes, statistically, no one in the history of the game has as well rounded of a game as Lebron. He’ll probably finish as the all time leading scorer in history, and that was never his focus. He’ll finish top 10 in assists, and he’s a forward. Probably the best rebounding small forward in history. His years of leading the league is PER, etc, etc.

I prefer not to get off topic too far, so we can save the Lebron is the GOAT discussion for another day. As it is, he may be the best player to ever don a Laker jersey though. And that speaks volumes.

 

I’m surprised @Anon Inam is the only Lebron Stan that found this site. There’s thousands of them out there.

I don’t mind you as a Lebron fan or anybody’s fan for that matter as long as you’re objective. You haven’t been yet, so...

And you’re right we can debate Laker greatness and Lebron’s so called goat status at a later time.
