Sorry I’m testing a TTS engine and it’s not very accurate yet

Basically LeBron is amazing and on his worst day gets a B

We may never see another player like him in our lifetime

    I’ll give him an A.

His impact on the team culture, the buzz, the confidence level is A+.

His play with all new teammates, new coach, new system is B+.

    Averages out to an A.

I gave LeBron an A already. In the two wins.

It's as good as the scale for superstars on lottery teams.
When's the last time a superstar got a vote for the MVP award on a losing team?
Again, I graded him a C+ for the first 3 games.
You conveniently leave out the losing part.

They gave us good effort, but I never lost sight that we were losing.
I expected LeBron to lead us to titles, not start the season 0-3. So I gave him a C+ for those games.
Now that he got us 2 wins, he's back up to a B-. I'm hoping the trend continues.

Gotta give it up to Lebron, we didn’t get the win tonight, but he stepped up to guard Aldridge in the post at the end of the 4th. You know that’s gotta take a lot out of you when Aldridge is throwing a shoulder into you, but he took the challenge and it allowed us to play small to have a shot at a come back.

LBJ's stats just creeps in on you. Never realized he had 35 pts. But it's a loss because he should have scored 40. He needs the mamba mentality aka selfishness if we want to win 50 games

So the only difference between a C and an A is a win or a loss. Except it takes a Herculean effort to get an A in a win. So what is a B? Your scale continues to not make sense.
I'm not leaving out anything. I've been on the first three games for all of your evaluations thus far. I disagree with all of them.

Just two years ago Anthony Davis was in the top 10 in MVP voting on a 34 win team. Not to mention the Lakers are 2-4, the Thunder are 0-4, the Rockets are 1-4. All of those teams have ex-MVPs. It's extemely early in the year so I'm not going to call this a lottery team with 76 games to go.

"Expected"? :D as if 3 games into the year he's already shown we're a lottery team? I mean c'mon.

And we lost again without a 50/10/10 so I guess he's appropriately back down to a D-, right?

Amazing player that makes getting 35 points look easy. Passes Dirk in career points, passes Kobe for career 30 point games, and passes Shaq for field goals made all in one game. Truly amazing, and it was cool to see how he humbly praised those guys and gave a shout out to his home town too. Class act all the way around.

The future All time leading scorer is on our team. Only Luke’s inexperience and Lebron’s lack of help can hold him back. 2-4 is a shame and should never happen.

When he becomes the all time leading scorer, people will still say he could have scored more. That happens when you’re likely the best to have ever laced them up. It’s a compliment in the highest order when people can nitpick a 35 point game with high efficiency against probably the greatest coach ever.

No it takes a herculean effort to get an A in a loss. I'm starting to feel you are experiencing temporary reading comprehension issues. You weren't like this last year as I recall.

This going by the global standard of the grading system.

    A - Excellent
    B - Good
    C - Average
    D - Below-Average
    F - Deficient

I take points off for losing. You don't. That's where we differ.

So if LeBron has a Good game by his standards, he gets a B. If we lose he gets knocked down to a Above-Average (C+), again, by his standards.

    OK, fair enough.

Nor am I, but I will say with certainty that none of them are frontrunners for the MVP thus far.

No, but again, we're basing this on 3 games. You're drifting from that point again.

Don't make stuff up to strengthen your argument. Honestly it's childish. Not once did I grade him lower than a C so why are you bringing up a D-?

To answer your question, I'm keeping him at B- through 6 games and a 2-4 record.

LeBron doesn't go full on early in the season. I don't expect any player to, to be honest with you. He reserves until the half way point, playoffs and finals. We'll be fine, he'll continue to help the players adjust to him and everyone will be on point.

I've been consistent in my argument from the beginning: your grading scale is inconsistent and makes no sense. How can he be at a B- now? He was at a C through three games and three losses. In four losses this year he's averaging "just" 29.3 points, 9 rebounds, 7.3 assists, 1.5 steals, shooting 42/84 for 50% from the field (although just 20% from deep at 5/25). That's far short of of a 50/10/10 performance. What has he done to move up into a B? I mean in our two wins he's actually doing "less" by averaging 23.5 points, 9 rebounds, 10.5 assists, and 3 steals on 51.5% shooting (still 20% from deep).

In those three games LeBron's averages again were 27.3/8.3/8.3 with 1.3 steals and 0.7 blocks on 46% shooting. You called it "underwhelming". From the beginning I just wanted you to realize how silly that sounded and continues to sound and it seems like you're realizing that since he hasn't significantly changed from those three games, but now he's suddenly at a B (which is where I had him).

I can see your logic, but there should still never be a scale in which 27/8/8 is viewed as "average". That's the furthest from average you could expect a person to be. Even i that's similar to LeBron's career averages (27/7/7), you're taking what you're watching for granted if you give those performances a "C". Especially in his 16th season. Especially on a new team, in a new city, with completely different teammates and a completely different style than any previous team he's played with. Especially when we haven't seen anyone even remotely like this since Magic (Kobe was an almost completely different player).

Average for me would have been the 25/5/5 I expected him to give us this year. And yes losses matter, but doesn't your impact on the game matter too? What other player impacts the game the way LeBron does on this team? Is he responsible solely for the losses and thus gets knocked down because of it? That's why I brought up the other players. There's no way you can evaluate LeBron at a C and then give any other player, outside of maybe McGee, anything short of a D or an F or in the case of Pope an F triple minus. It's a flawed system of evaluating.

I exaggerated to show you how ridiculous your evaluation of his first three games are. I'm glad you see it as childish, that's how I saw your grade. Any other player putting up those numbers and there's zero chance you call it average. I don't care if it were Kobe, Magic, Shaq, Lonzo, Darius Morris, Julius Randle, Brandon Ingram, Elgin Baylor, or Wesley Snipes.

Oh crap. Flashes of realgm going on.

Why can’t we just enjoy the best player to have ever played the game?

35 points in a loss equals B-? I’m speechless. Lebron has set the bar soooo high that a TEAM loss knocks down his PERSONAL grade a full letter?

Everyone is entitled to their own grading system, but I’m probably with you minus the grade drop for a loss. I don’t find that rational. I could bring pages of stats to back up that position, but I prefer just to talk about basketball.

I keep my personal grading system to myself. Things to consider.

Lebron is probably the only player that could average a triple double in the finals and get a B grade if he ended up on the losing side. That’s greatness. That’s hate. That’s legend.

He was a C+ through the first 3 games and losses. He was a A- in the 2 wins. And a B- in the latest loss. I feel he played really good in our last game. Unfortunately we were really sloppy in the 4th quarter and LeBron couldn't push us over the top. I'm not going to penalize him for this loss as much as the other 3 losses. So he gets a B-.

In one of the 2 wins he sat out the 4th quarter. And he played in overtime in one of the 3 losses. So the stats are skewed.

I agree that stats are important, but for grading I value context a bit more, which I'll elaborate on later.

I don't disagree with your stats, but I was pointing out his defense and body language as being subpar. And the poor efficiency was quite evident. (missing layups and poor 3P shooting) As many posters have already pointed out, LeBron is a slow starter, so there's that.

I've been saying for 2 days now that you're quibbling over my B- and your B :D

27/8/8 on poor shooting is "good" for LeBron. His career average, or 27/8/8 on 50+ FG% and 38+ 3P% is "excellent." So he gets a "good" for those 3 losses, knocked down to an "Above Average" because we lost. There are also other considerations to equation, like when he choked on the FT's.

Well yes, things like new teammates and play style do matter, but as the season goes along those things will work itself out. He will get rewarded with more wins and better grading will follow.

25/5/5 would be the lowest he's averaged since his rookie year. That would be disappointing for LeBron. Don't forget that he's playing for one of the highest paced offenses in the league.

Well, the head coach gets penalized the most for the losses. I give Luke a D+ thus far. Next up is the superstar, then the other starters, and then the bench players. My reasoning is quite simple. The bench players aren't given the same opportunities to affect the game as a superstar does. Nor are they expected to. So they're graded on a much lower standard. As long as they fulfill their role, it's hard to ask more from them. The starters to a lesser extent, but they still aren't expected to dictate the game's outcome as much as a superstar.

Well I hope you're done with your exaggerations because it's impossible to have a constructive argument when you're making stuff up. What if I countered your post by saying, "so LeBron gets an A+++ every game shooting poorly because it's his 16th season right?" ....see how ridiculous that sounds? I mean, c'mon. It gets tiresome having to deal with that.

Well no other player is LeBron. He is the best player in the world getting paid handsomely. We even had to throw in an extra $12M to sign that garbage named KCP to make him happy, so yeah I expect a lot from him.

But to get back to my point, he'd be a B+/A- if we had a couple more wins. Unfortunately we sit at 2-4 and he gets a B- (Good) thru 6 games, which I think is quite fair considering the logic behind my grading which I've clearly explained to you in my previous post.

Sure everyone here are Lakers fans first. LeBron is a Laker now we're gonna root for whoever is in purple and gold regardless. If he helps this organization win a title fight now, better believe we're, we'll I'm gonna celebrate him for it. If Kd were to join tomorrow, I'm a kd fan until he takes off the Laker jersey.

    That's what it's about.

Hey now .... what Jazzygirl205 said for most but not all of us. But don't be like for others he's not coming with a LOT of non basketball and even basketball baggage. He hasn't really started it here yet but were you also a fan of his disgusting flopping in the past, off putting ego, blaming of teammates with body language for his defensive lapses (has been seen here already) .....and a rather long list of other things. #suitshortswithlargemanpursefashionsense

Just saying many of us had or still have to get past all of that. So you might want to dial it down a bit with your butt crack smack.

LeBron played great last night. Even was engaged defensively the entire game which we haven’t seen yet.

Both games against the Spurs should have been wins. Pop outcoached Luke badly both times.

I care about who the guy is now. Do you want to be judged for your youthful indiscretions? I sure don’t.

Life is happier with short term memory. Today Lebron is the best player on the planet and makes us better. I choose to celebrate that. All the crack licking poster defacing live in the past fans only suck the joy out of enjoying this team.

Just appreciate the embarrassment of riches for talent we have on the roster today knowing we can still add a max level guy.

If you focus on that, it’s pretty hard to be unhappy.

If you focus on crack licking, you’ll walk around with a sour face all the time. That’s not a life I want to live. And I don’t relate to anyone who does. But I guess to each their own. Sorry did not mean to offend. I just don’t understand it.
