Spent some time watching film... OFFENSE Carr: Generally, Carr has to be more willing to throw the ball away. He had a monster first half, and he could have finished that way. Mental mistakes. That second Carr INT was absolutely braindead. Lollipopped it to the left side of the field? Throw it away, throw it out of bounds, but what the f***? The INT in the end zone was underthrown. The completion %, yards per attempt were great. The three INTs and pick six means Carr gave more points to the Rams than he did to the Raiders. Inexcusable. Cook: 9-180 Monster game. No one could cover him. Repeatedly dominated. Cook stopped on the pick six, but Carr has to position that pass better. He looked consistently better than anyone else on O that I saw. WRs: 5-43 combined Cooper did jack s***. I’m disgusted with him at this point. Can’t believe Roberts is still on the roster. Jordy Nelson looks like a TE; he's just not fast. They desperately needed a dynamic WR3, and they lost their two candidates via cut. OL: Jackson got beaten on that sack of Carr. Then again, 1 sack in 40 dropbacks isn’t bad. They also averaged 4.1 yards per carry. The OL is one position I don’t worry too much about. RBs: 20-85, 1 TD Lynch's TD run was beast mode + a huge push by Hudson (49 yards, 1 TD total). Richard great grab to set up the last FG of the first half (79 yards total). Martin’s 4-20, 2-(-3) are about what we expected. DEFENSE Gurley did damage, but he did a lot of that damage late, when the defense looked gassed and out of sorts. 26 rushes for the team, 141 yards, and 2 TDs. Those are huge rushing numbers. Secondary Gave Cooks WAY too much space. He averaged 18 yards a grab. Two of them at least were with Conley “in coverage.” Conley did manage a big pass breakup (but he doesn’t seem to have been given credit in the box). Melvin: Big play and then gave way too much space, then a PI, afraid to engage in the run game. Good coverage late. He’s looking very inconsistent in week 1. Hall: Big breakup Nelson: Poor coverage on TD Rodgers-Cromartie: I think the PI on Rodgers-Cromartie was weak, but it gave the Rams like 30 yards. UP FRONT I want to see the Hurry stats. It's not JUST about hits and sacks. That said, Goff had a ton of time, especially in the second half. Monster holes for the Rams' running game, late at least. Monster screen. No awareness on D, or they're tired. No push on the D line in the fourth. Whithead: Big pass deflection. Led the team in tackles. SPECIAL TEAMS No Pineiro or King, but the kicking game was solid. Nugent converted all of his attempted 7 points. Townsend’s 41.5 average isn’t great, but the Rams managed a combined 6 yards on punt returns, so his net was good. Long of 55 and pinned one inside the 20. Game Flow Up 13-10 at the half. This is a 7-point game with 9:24 left in the fourth. With 8:27 left, the Raiders are down 10, but they're in LA territory. In other words, this wasn’t a complete demolishing, and the 20 points clearly doesn’t show how close the game was. Normally I’m not comforted by things like that, but I trust Gruden to scheme better for a full game next time. Bold Prediction: 8-8
^We did fine... Ran the ball well in the first half. That end zone pick to Jones was a big factor where we would have been up a TD. The second was just stupid on Carr's part. He cost us this game.
Shots fired! Speaking Tuesday, Raiders coach Jon Gruden said it was going to be "easier said than done" to spark Amari Cooper going forward.
So, added two DLs and a LS too. Lost our LS, waived Calhoun, and waived someone I hadn't even heard of.
Read the full discourse and it was on Carr not taking chances with deep shots to him downfield. He was too passive. I can recall the KC game last season at home where he did so and it paid dividends. Part of it is Cooper should fight for the ball like all the top tier wide-outs he is supposed to be. Hell Crabtree did that. Otherwise Cooper will end up being James Jett Redux.
Osemele with a huge hole to spring Lynch for a nice gain. Jordy f***ing Nelson to return punts? Jesus Christ. Good series on D. Conley with good coverage on third.
2nd series Couldn't do anything with the penalty, unfortunately. Nelson didn't even try to catch the pass. He might have been killed though if he had. Defense looks solid right now. Run D doing a good job and there's at least some pressure coming, but they're a little out of control on the rush.
They're not getting anything downfield at all. All passes behind the line since that first drive. Martin sucks. No burst.
Raiders got lucky there. Hall ways WAY out of position but made a great play to knock the ball out. Great play on third down. Reggie Nelson with the stick. Kick Roberts off the team. Now. Bryant looks good on his first target. Up 6-0.
