Then Lonzo and Kuzma and Hart need paydays. So no money left. 2019 is our best chance to add to the team and is an incredibly important summer for us.

OK, so Zo, Zu, Deng, and picks, or some combination thereof. I’m not counting on one of those three you mentioned (I.e. Zo) playing out their rookie contracts here.

Looks like Nwaba is headed to the Cavs. I'm glad Houston didn't get their hands on him. He's the type of guy that would've done well to replace Ariza/Mbah a Moute there.

Would've loved him here again, but we got no room with Stephenson, KCP, and Hart.

We will get another All-Star either by trade before Feb or in the summer. I am all but convinced...

We have to get off this Deng contract; it is killing us.

Amd truth be told, I am becoming more enamored with Kemba...

Kemba is sort of an interesting play for us. He's a very underrated player, but he's also not a perfect fit for our switch everything defense. He'd also make things difficult for Hart or Pope if Pope stuck around.

I'm going to keep a close eye on the Center market. I've got a feeling that's where our next splash is coming since it's our biggest need. I've just got this feeling that if Cousins comes back at a mid-high level, we're going to give him a decent long-term contract.

    How about Deng/Hart/Zu + 2019 1st for Kemba/Kaminsky?

Kemba is a FA at the end of the season. We can sign him without losing Hart or Zubac.

Oh, I agree. I also don't think he is worth a max, and he is probably my 3rd option after Kawhi and Butler.

    But,

Dynamic offensively, and while not a perfect fit defensively; I think could make a very nice pairing with Zo; does the offense outweigh what he cannot do defensively. Idk.

Either way, we should have 2 All Stars on this roster by next July...

I think he is traded by Feb personally. Rumors are NY, but who knows?

Also think Butler might be traded, too.

Magic and Riles got history and they do seem to have Hassan on the books still.

Miami is just a shade over 4m into the luxury tax. They can avoid taxes and gain the non-tax MLE if they get under the tax. Sending out Hassan's 25.4m allows them to take a minimum amount of 20.2m in incoming salary. By doing that, they will dip below the tax threshold and avoid taxes altogether.

Deng, Bonga, Zu, pick swaps for Hassan

Miami at one point replaced Bron with Deng so there is some familiarity there. Riles can also take Bonga and have a crack at turning him into a Magic doppleganger (I know I'm really stretching it here). They also get a young center to replace Hassan with in Zu. And you already got a Slovenian point guard who will play nice with a Croatian center on the block. Miami also has a roster of 12 so a 3 for 1 gets them to 14....and with that final spot they can go get Dwade for a price that still puts them under the tax threshold.

Hassan's enigmatic personality is the perfect match for our SmashMob and he has a player option to opt out of the 27m he's owed past this season. Next summer is projected to be more free agent friendly and one year of playing with Bron in a LA market that will surely get a ton of exposure will do him wonders for his next and probably final contract. Also he is a much more valuable piece that we can trade in any potential Kawhi deal that transpires before February.

I was very against Hassan before, but that was before LeBron signed on here. I'd make this move now though. Hassan has become a problem for them, but it'd be a solid move for us if we've got the structure to put him in places to succeed. The problem is, do you get him at the potential cost of another FA? Because if you make a move for Hassan and he doesn't pan out and he takes his PO which leads to us not being able to sign Kawhi or Butler or something... that's a big mistake to make.

Well shoot, why not add Whiteside to the group of new players we signed. But here we are bringing up an argument from months ago. Whiteside has a player option for next year, not a team option, he picks up that option and we miss out on free agents next year. Not worth the gamble.

I agree its risky, but Magic and Pelinka how gotten us out of binds before...I still think we can move that type of deal much more easily than the Deng contract especially with young assets and future picks. Heck we can even have Toronto dump an additional 8M on to us (Hassan's 25.4m could bring in up to 31.9m). If you add Moe/Sv33 to the package, we can bring in nearly 36m back in salary (Kawhi plus 13m).

As of right now, Toronto is about 15m over the tax and are paying close to 30m in taxes for it. If you help them shed 13m in salary, you save them close to 40m in combined salary and taxes. Oh and Sac is still sitting on nearly 11m in cap space btw. Maybe we along with Toronto can present assets to make it worth their time.

Also a 30 year old DJ opted out of his contract to take a 1 year deal with the Mavs to become a free agent next summer when half the league will have 20m+ in cap space....how are we absolutely certain a 29 year old Hassan will opt in next summer, when the cash will clearly be available?

Btw, killer gif @LTLakerFan ...that's my new spirit animal.

Well, my logic was using Hart and Zu for Charlotte to take on Deng. Then we get Kemba this year to try him out and then he gives us the first crack at him next year.

That's the thing, we aren't absolutely certain he'll opt in OR out. And previously when Whiteside was brought up everyone was certain/saying he's just a one year expiring even though he has a PO. Who's to say he'll be able to even get close to $27mil in his next deal after a poor showing last season and history of being a headcase.

With only 2 teams with cap space (Sac and Atl after Chicago matched for LaVine and brought in Parker), Okc found a way to unload an expiring 28m Melo contract for 15m in return (unloaded a net of 13m). Look at what Denver did to get out of luxury tax hell...they unloaded nealry 40m in expiring contracts this summer.

Let me repeat...15 teams will have at least 20m+ in cap space next summer.

Plus if it comes down to noone taking on Hassan's expiring 27m (either completely or partially) by next summer, then we can stretch him and have 9m of dead money on the books. That still puts us at about 71m in team salary with 38m in cap space (projected 109m salary cap next summer). Kawhi's max is projected to be 32.7m.

Team's aren't lining up to do us any favors.

Nets took Mozzy and the Cavs took on cap knowing it could further help push Bron out.

And again, if it really comes down to it, we don't need favors from other teams. Stretching the contract (although not ideal), still brings us enough cap to max out even a 35% max type player like Durant (ie 38m).

Btw, Houston just opened up a roster spot for Melo and once they add him and Melton they will go back to a maximum of 15. Melo can join the Rox later today once he's off waivers.
