i mean, lebron is the ultimate salve here, but yeah...just nonsensical stuff going on. the boogie thing *may* have been out of our control, but the rest was in our control. what's tyreke going to sign for? should have just saved cap and made a big RFA offer on capela?

the only thing i can come up with--and it's far-fetched--is that the lakers knew cousins was going to GS, so they're punting this season and hoping to get kawhi while GS loses cousins next year.

 

McGee was a vet min signing...so no impact on the cap we had.
Stevenson was a room exception (?) signing...so no impact on the cap we had.

KCP obviously impacted the cap, but I'm thinking that was in good faith to lock up Bron (which is still by far the best addition that has happened this summer).
Rondo also bled into the cap, but even with that move, we had 5.8M in cap space still. That's 500K more than what Boogie got with GS...so I don't know where it went bad for Boogie and his agent, but if he wanted exposure and a starting spot, we gave that to him with equal pay and the opportunity to pay more via a Deng stretch...this is just a bizarre turn of events. Not as bad as the cupcake move, but I guess you can't just have one cupcake, can you?

If we eventually end up with Kawhi, that's a huge win. A bigger win is if we're in position to go get a disgruntled AD. I would want Boogie under better circumstances, but dude would have not helped out until possibly March or April next year.

I'm a little bitter about the low risk high reward aspect, but if you give me an option between Boogie (Achilles) and Kawhi (tendonipathy), I"m going with Kawhi 100% of the time.

Also if he took less this year, he may take less some time later. We will have cap next summer, so a healthier version of himself is still an option down the line.

 

And his freaking size. Have to have him back. Just have to. He can hold his own in there as he is as big as the other Big Boys (not tall boys). Otherwise we start getting punked again down low, especially with Julius gone now too. Got to have BroLo.

 

If Boogie is half of what he usually is, the Warriors are gonna steam roll. Lakers should have signed him just to keep him away from GSW.
