LABron James Discussion: The Final Year?

I speak for my “hateful” colleagues when I say the things we hate Lebron for is nothing that Kobe, Jordan, and any other all time great is hated for.

Should I count thee ways??

Leg up? Hmmmm. Embiid is one leg up from missing the season or playoff run. You wanna chance that? Good luck. Plus, if you have a ball dominate player who cant shoot on the team, he becomes useless with Lebron controlling the ball. Ben Simmons is too full of himself to take a back seat. See: Kyrie Irving.

Lebron's best shot at winning lots of titles and not having to carry everything is the Lakers and it's not close.

 

These are just a few of the main reasons for my hate. Some of it is directly because of him, some of it is indirectly because of him, nevertheless it is all the same.

This will be long so a TLDR version is at the bottom of this post, lol.


1. Narratives
Whether self proclaimed or brought on by the media, I simply hate the narratives that everyone creates for him. “The Chosen One” “The King” “The best passer in the league” “makes his teammates better” “most unselfish player in the game” “a player this league has never seen before” “greatest complete player ever” “he doesn’t have help” “he has to carry this bad team” and most recently “he is the GOAT”

Mind you, he’s never led the league in assists. How does the best passer in the league not do that? How has the GOAT passer not averaged 10 assists one time in his career? How has the greatest complete player ever not once average a triple double, but a guy who plays a similar style to his own has done it twice? This is a guy who loves his stats now. All in all, I have yet to hear a narrative I truly agree with.

2. Dramatic Tendencies / Attention leech / Narcissistic
I don’t really have to say much here. Anyone who doesn’t see him as any of these is a blind fan. He is a dramatic, flopping, narcissistic attention leech who I’d say doesn’t truly believe what he says about himself. He flip flops what he says and does to benefit him. So if he needs to take up for his teammates he’ll do it. If he needs to throw them under the bus he’ll do it. If he has to say he doesn’t care about criticism, he’ll say it. If he has to say that the criticism pushed him and fueled him, he’ll say that. He’ll say one thing one time and then the opposite another time. So not only does he seek attention at every opportunity, he doesn’t seemingly even believe the words that come out of his mouth. Why is the GOAT so unsure of himself, so indecisive? Unless it’s all a marketing ploy.

He said this in the Finals last year after losing Game 1 and supposedly having a “subpar game for his standards” to these same Warriors: "I really don't hear the noise. I couldn't really care less. It really doesn't matter to me," "The narrative and people writing articles and things like that, I don't care. Those things don’t bother me. It’s hard for me to tell my teammates, hey, don't listen to it, because I don't even get involved in it."

Despite what he says, I believe he still cares about what people say, he may be slightly more mature (no more Decision shows) but he still cares.

When passing Kareem for most playoff field goals this year... “I’m not even a scorer, so this accomplishment is really big for me.”
When becoming the first and only player to 30000pts, 8000reb, 8000asts this year... “I take pride in my style of play. I’m a player the league has never seen.”

Seriously? Who is he talking to. He’s obviously talking to someone. The interesting thing is that this is what “the narrative and people writing articles” said about him. Surely he’s not quoting what they said is he? Nah, he doesn’t care about all that stuff.

3. His Forced Greatness / Pampered Career
Arguably, the most catered NBA Superstar I’ve ever seen. Michael Jordan was definitely catered during his career. For the longest I couldn’t understand why he was considered the unanimous GOAT without even a discussion, I still don’t, but Lebron takes the cake here imo.

The NBA has catered to Lebron even before he came into the league, unlike any player I have ever seen and I’ve been watching the NBA as a whole for almost 30+ years. And I know that the media wasn’t then what it is today, so chances are Kareem or Wilt weren’t getting the attention the way Bron is.

He can do no wrong. He is perfect. Everyone is saying he is some unprecedented specimen of a human demigod that has graced us all with his presence to show us how to truly play this game we call basketball. There is no one better, he is the GOAT, he is better than Kobe, Jordan, Bird, Kareem, Magic, Wilt, Dr. J, West, Baylor, Oscar and every other player that has ever played this game.

But Lebron is just not as good as the world claims him to be. His flaws are heavily overlooked. No one cares or talks about his traveling which he has done his entire career. His lack of footwork, his lack of a post game, his overrated defense, his predictable offense that is very easy to stop, (he does the same move, but no one wants to challenge him) his lack of off ball movement, his midrange / 3 point shot, his lack of killer instinct. Someone will say, hey your just being biased, so who cares? I would say sure I am, but I’ve also had 15 years to follow a player whose hype surpassed anything I’ve ever seen in sports let alone basketball. So biased or not, the eye test shows me something different from the mainstream. The eye test should be a criteria for claiming the greatness they’re claiming with him, but with Lebronmania this does not compute.

You realize the GOAT has only led the league 4 times in any of the main statistical categories and 3 of those 4 were minutes. Minutes!

I can talk all day, but I’ve said a lot already. The point is there is a lot I hate about Lebronmania. I’d like to hear about some of my partners’ hate because I’m sure I can relate.


TLDR; I hate his narratives, his narcissistic and dramatic ways, and his forced greatness.

 

I agree with point 2, he definitely plays the "I don't care" one moment then moves straight into "I'm a unique amazing player blah" which is infuriating.

Think point one is a bit of a reach.

 

Interesting theory , it's a stretch but there is some truth to it

 

Lebron has always struck me as a “road less traveled” type of guy. Will he accept the challenge of wearing LAKERS across his chest? Will he follow the standard of excellence Wilt, Kareem, West, Magic, Shaq and Kobe set? To come to LA is championship or bust. If he fails, his legacy is potentially tarnished forever. Look at Dwight Howard. He’s known as the guy who ran from Mikan, Chamberlain, Jabbar and Shaq’s shadow. Lebron just doesn’t strike me as a guy who’s willing to take that risk. With or without Lebron, we are going to win championships in the not too distant future. You can just see it. Can he handle being patient enough to allow these kids to grow around him? It won’t be easy. My bet is he takes the road less traveled to Philly and the watered down East. I guess we’ll find out in a month.

I guess. However my dislike of LeBron has nothing to do with his fatigue levels during games.

Skip is pretty hilarious though in how completely and totally biased he is and how he goes out of his way in order to slander LeBron at every turn. I’m quite entertained by it when it’s completely irrational.

My hate of LeBron is completely and totally 100% rational.

 

Lebron is tired of losing to the Warriors. He doesn't have enough fire power.

Looks like he finds out that the Cavs had a timeout to use by TyLue @ the 1:35 mark. At least that's what I kinda got off reading his lips. Either way, sure looks like dude is going to be staying to play with that coveted #8 pick Gilbert gloriously traded for at the deadline. So Klutch!

Btw, LS85 TL;DR version of my retort...you said it best. The national media creates these narratives and floods social media with their propaganda. Seems to me that you have more of an issue with that than the actual player Bron is.

I'll hit you up with a more extensive retort later, but remember that the biggest thing from the internet back in the day was Y2K and the doomsday clock. Social media became what it is today in the mid '00s. The talking heads are mainly from MJ's era and as Real posted above, whether you're a hater or a d*** ryder, your judgement of MJ during his heyday (pre-social media) is foggy at best. Kob coulda had his moment in the sun, but his national narrative changed once Colorado happened. Bron is riding the waive of this social media boom (and it helps that his off the court issues keep his name from being run through the mud).

I agree it can be nauseating if you get your news from these guys...but I personally can't care less of their opinion and instead choose to go mining within the stats/facts. So imho, Bron is dope as a bball player for this softer, soupier (aka watered down) NBA. If our current team can get him, we'll be better for it....even if he's a narcissistic passive aggressive douche. Again, nearly all athletes (your favorite or otherwise) are built the same way. Its just up to you to figure it out without social media skewing you one way or the other.
