I think I would have taken Randle either right before him or right after. Could be a toss-up to me.

Excellent read! Thanks. It gives me great hope for the future when Mitch is gone. Damn we have Jerry West's son who was raised in the organization. It is still in the family, he wants to be here, not somewhere else. Mitch's relationship with him is much like West's relationship was with Mitch in teaching him how to be a great GM. And Jesse Buss is another with the good basketball mind and obviously part of the Lakers family.

Just get us a near the top pick this year and some health next year and damn it is looking good again. I would love to have Karl Towns. We are going to need a guy who can play excellent defense against the Embids and Noels and Davises and Cousins, other skilled "offensive" big men. Heading for another era of good big men. Yeah yeah Okafor, but something tells me Towns is the one we want. His offense will come but how great to have a big next to Randle that is that skilled defensively and athletic. Mitch and Ryan and Jesse will make the right decision.

I agree that Towns is looking more and more like the better fit next to Randle. But with the emergence of Clarkson who can play either guard spot, I just feel like in order to keep Mitch and Jim from doing something rash and signing Rondo or Dragic to some big deal, we need to get Russell or Mundiay. Essentially filling up the backcourt to where they can't justify a max contract on a guard that would send one of our two young prizes (Clarkson and Russell/Mundiay) to the bench. A max deal on Monroe is not only cheaper than one on Dragic or Rondo, but using that kind of dough on a center is always an easier pill to swallow.

All that being said, Towns and Randle for the next 12 years sounds scary as hell. If that happens, we may have the best frontcourt in the league in a few years...and it could stay the best for a decade.

What does everyone think of Justin Anderson from Virginia as a possibility with that Houston pick. He's a great physical specimen and from what I've read, the knock on him was his inconsistency with his jumper. But this season he is shooting 48% from downtown with more attempts this season than last when he shot 29%. I have not seen him play at all and was wondering if anyone had? He's part of that suffocating Virginia defense which is a good sign.

Probably. If they get our pick, they'll probably take Towns AND Cauley Stein. That way they'd have Noel, Embiid, Towns and Stein. They would then sit Towns and Stein all season due to a "potentially fatal" case of gout. Then at the trade deadline they would unload Noel and Embiid for future first round picks and expiring contracts. They can't allow any continuity to ever form.

Well, Phil has always hated rookies.

In all honesty, this is why I wasn't too upset to see Phil go. Nothing about his talents made me think they could translate to a front office spot. He is a good people person and a master manipulator. His most powerful skills are unusable from an office on the top floor.

Phil Jackson is like a Rogue in World of Warcraft, but by putting him in a front office position you are asking the Rogue to be a ranged DPS. And if you have rogues as ranged DPS, you wipe.

Now do I want Jim in charge? No. But Phil's reported trade ideas from his stints as coach (Kobe for Kidd, Kobe for other people) show his skill set may actually be counter productive as it pertains to building a roster.
